All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Do you have a daily routine for spending time with the Lord?

What is it?

How often are you reading from the bible?

Do you read devotions?

Do you have a favorite devotion that you'd like to share?

What are some indications in your life that you haven't been spending enough time with the Lord?

For me, some of them are frustration, exhaustion and feelings of failure, discouragement and loneliness.

Matthew 11:28-30 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

28 “Come to Me, all [a]who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is [b]easy and My burden is light.”

What changes after you've spent time with the Lord?

Let's learn from and encourage each other.

Be Blessed!

NO

What are some indications in your life that you haven't been spending enough time with the Lord?

Walking as a mere man. And about the same as yours, frustration, and feelings of failure, discouragement. Heb. 5:12, " For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God..." Just one of my frustrations.

For me, some of them are frustration, exhaustion and feelings of failure, discouragement and loneliness.

One of my favorites (Psa. 91, I quote it as an affirmation…14, because I have set my love upon Him, therefore He will deliver me, He will set me on high, because I have known His Name, 15, I can call upon Him, and He will answer me, He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honor me. 16, With long life He satisfy me, and show me His salvation.

The Ministry Of The Interior
But ye are...a royal priesthood. 1 PETER 2:9
By what right do we become “a royal priesthood”? By the right of the Atonement. Are we prepared to leave ourselves resolutely alone and to launch out into the priestly work of prayer? The continual grubbing on the inside to see whether we are what we ought to be generates a self-centred, morbid type of Christianity, not the robust, simple life of the child of God. Until we get into a right relationship to God, it is a case of hanging on by the skin of our teeth, and we say — “What a wonderful victory I have got!” There is nothing indicative of the miracle of Redemption in that. Launch out in
reckless belief that the Redemption is complete, and

reckless belief that the Redemption is complete, and then bother no more about yourself, but begin to do as Jesus Christ said — pray for the friend who comes to you at midnight, pray for the saints, pray for all men. Pray on the realisation that you are only perfect in Christ Jesus, not on this plea — “O Lord, I have done my best, please hear me.”
How long is it going to take God to free us from the morbid habit of thinking about ourselves? We must get sick unto death of ourselves, until there is no longer any surprise at anything God can tell us about ourselves. We cannot touch the depths of meanness in ourselves. There is only one place where we are right, and that is in Christ Jesus. When we are there, then we have to pour out for all we are worth in this ministry of the interior. WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
We should always choose our books as God chooses our friends, just a bit beyond us, so that we have to do our level best to keep up with them.

Hello Carla, I used to have a devotional, more or less, sent to my email, by a preacher, his name was “Gregory Dickow”, I used to listen to him all the time on TV. It was called “FROM THE INSIDE OUT” it was a daily affirmation of what we already have, or who we are in Christ Jesus.
Do you read any other books, like motivational books? I read a lot of other books, by Tony Robins, like “ Awaken the Giant Within,” ” Unlimited Power,” and “Hung By The Tongue”, by Francis P. Martin,“ Think & Grow Rich” By Napoleon Hill,? Though these are, we assume to be secular writers, they still know there is a higher power, not professing to be Christians, or mentioning Jesus Christ, or God, but do realize there’s more to this life than what we can produce, or achieve by our own efforts.
Then those that we know are Christian writers, I read mostly, E.W.Kenyon’s books, “Identification”, “New Creation realities”, “In His Presence”, and “Advanced Bible Course,” Like (Studies in the deeper life,) these are very challenging, and thought provoking until you study in depth the scripture references. When I read Andrew Womack’s books on “You’ve Already Got It,” and “God Wants You Well,” “Spirit, Soul and Body”, the mind will start to think, well if I already have it, or God wants me well, then why don’t I see it, or experiencing it? Then I read in 2Peter 1:2-4, “Grace and Peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord, according as His Divine Power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these we might be partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in this world through lust…” and then in light of other scriptures, I find that it is all in the Spiritual realm, not in our flesh, or our five physical senses, what we can see, feel, taste, smell and hear. I think that one of our biggest problems in receiving from God, or walking in all of His provision is, our unbelief. He speaks many times in the New Testament, in past tense, that it is already done, but can we believe that we are already possessing everything that God has provided in His substitution for us? I find myself falling very short at times. I forget that I am a Royal Priesthood, and like many others, we feel we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth, forgetting what manner of man we are, James 1:24, 25, Philemon 1:6. “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” I find we are too consumed with our situations, to fully accept what God’s Word says about us, who we are, and what we have working inside of us in the Spiritual realm.
Carla, Thanks for sharing your devotion. May the Lord Bless.

Yes, I read other books.  When I was a baby believer I read the bible more than anything else.

I'm currently reading a novel 'Becoming Mrs. Lewis'.  It's an incredibly interesting story of how Joy Davidman became the wife of CS Lewis.  It's now lead me to other stories by CS Lewis such as 'Surprised by Joy'.  It's a story of CS Lewis's testimony and life of how he became surrendered to Jesus, as he was once an atheist.

However, I do read other books from Christian authors... however I tend to pick from them.  I rarely read them cover to cover.

I haven't been reading my bible like I used to.  It's something I need to get back to.  My bible study group is on summer break.

I'll have to share some things that have went on in my life the past few years moving around the country. Over the past several years, my devotion to Christ couldn't fit on the head of a pin. Since moving back to NC, I have started crawling my way back, slowly but surely. I'm back in my home church which def helps.

I don't have a time set aside to spend with the Lord. Years ago I would open up my devotional Streams In The Desert first thing in the morning, read Scripture, pray & start my day. I can't tell you the last time I've even come close to doing any of that. Coming back home to North Carolina has most definitely helped me with my desire to return to the Lord's will without question but I still have some rebellious streaks that holds me back in a few areas.

I'm in a Bible study at church. It's a couple's study. We are studying the book of Mark. I do read that at home but no set times. The last several days, I have got back in my Word where that thing had collected so much dust, I would sneeze myself to death when I picked it up (not really). I know I'll get to the point that He wants me to get to. I need to re-learn how to give it all to Him, how to seek Him in all things, pray without ceasing & most of all, love Him like never before. At first, I fought Him every step of the way but since, I've thrown up my hands & told the Lord, OK. I give. Your way & Your will no matter how rough the road may look ahead.

I know I really didn't answer your questions specifically but sharing with you what is going on with me spiritually & emotionally, I felt that would kinda show you what my routine is - I DON'T HAVE ONE. However, I need to create one & discipline myself more.

Hi Tammy, Feels good sometimes to just let it all out, doesn't it. Been there many times. Lord bless. JB

Beloved Tammy;

You are such a treasure here.  I appreciate and respect your honesty and willingness to be so transparent.

This is something we all battle and struggle with, you're definitely not alone.

Let's encourage each other to continue on.

Your words "I know I'll get to the point that He wants me to get to. I need to re-learn how to give it all to Him, how to seek Him in all things, pray without ceasing & most of all, love Him like never before. At first, I fought Him every step of the way but since, I've thrown up my hands & told the Lord, OK. I give. Your way & Your will no matter how rough the road may look ahead."

It makes me think of OT saints like David, known as 'the man after God's own heart' who essentially murdered a man because he wanted to wed Bethsheba, he lost a son as a consequence.  Or Jonah, who ran the exact opposite direction from God, but then finally surrendered and brought the Ninevah the message to repent from their wickedness and return to God.  He had to be swallowed by a whale before he would listen.

God knows exactly what He's getting with us, yet HE chooses to use us.  What an amazing God we serve.

I posted this discussion, but am not entirely convinced that we NEED a 'routine' to walk closely with Jesus.

We NEED the Holy Spirit.  We NEED to be surrendered.  We NEED to be Born Again.

Pharisee's had very devoted and strict 'routines' but their hearts were far from God.

Bless you Beloved.  It's such a privilege to volunteer with you here on AAG.

Love your sister In Christ, Carla

Love you. Thanks for the encouraging words.

I hope Christ is with me every moment, walks with me and lives in me through Holy Spirit. Reading, studying, and learning from the Scriptures are things that have always been important to me. I read devotionals occasionally. I read verses from the scriptures daily.

Amen.  Indeed HE is.
