Repentance - Act of God or Self
I seen a question this week. Is the grace of Christ enough or does it also consist of our repentance as well? Of course grace is enough. So is repentance from us or God. If we do the work of repentance, wouldn't that make repentance an act of ourselves & not of God? If that's the case, would we be getting the glory & not Him?
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 2 Ti 2:24-25

a more complete and basic definition of repentance is a change of mind (this is God's work) that leads to a change in direction, turning from sin and turning to God (our response). This change of mind is accompanied by guilt and sorrow for our sin, but that guilt and sorrow should not last a lifetime. Once we have gone through the repentance process and received Him our sins have been paid for and washed away. That is my short answer :-)

I see repentance as relational (basically what LT said).
Think of an analogy of a University/College teacher/student relationship. I realize all analogy's break down eventually...
The teacher teaches to all the students who show up, but none of the students are forced to be there, they walk in by their own free will, they aren't even forced to listen or learn. The teacher will still teach, but it's up to the student how much they want to get out of it. Obedience and submission are a part of repentance.
Mark 1:15 is a command, not a request or a suggestion.
and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
We can choose to submit and obey, or not. It requires two or more parties to act relationally.

Repentance is the "seed" of the Word. It comes from hearing the Gospel and believing.
The power of the Gospel is real.
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt. 4:17).
The twelve that he called to preach followed His example: "and they went out and preached that men should repent," (Mark 6:12).
Hebrews 4: 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Acts 17:30 - And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Titus 2:11-For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
This is the power of the Gospel. To those that will believe and repent. I liked Carla's analogy....we are still left with a choice.
I am wondering why we see so little of the power of the Gospel in people's lives today?
