All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Each day is a struggle for me to walk in Jesus foot prints. Being with my fellow brothers and sisters in christ gives me more balance to walk in his foot print.

There are days, I feel I fail on Jesus and I can't forgive myself eventhough I know Jesus has forgiven me.  I yearn to be like Jesus, wow that is truly a great step to take but I know Jesus does not want me to be perfect, cos in his eye we are all perfect.  Love u always Jesus

Shanthi, we do fail but God sees us through the blood. The Bible says be holy as He is holy so it's a journey but always remember when you do fail - There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Be blessed sister.

Hi dear,

Thank you for your comforting words.  I am taking one step at a time, tough but Jesus is behind  me all the way as I often feel a nudge on my shoulder reminding me he is there for me.

I know temptations come from the enemy, there are times, they are so sweet and there are time I felt I could hear his words telling me...it's ok just do it, as it's only once and your God will forgive you.... and the force was so strong but the holy spirit just reminds me that I took a big step coming to Jesus, why waste it....

What Tam has said is true. But sometimes even if we just are feeling convicted by the Holy Spirit, and we know that God doesn't condemn us but freely forgives us, it's hard to still not feel the guilt. For me anyway.

As for me, I try not to give my feelings any place, other than physical hurts; knowing they are subject to the enemy, seeing this is his play ground, and I know my feelings are very deceptive. Therefore I counter every feeling that does not align with the Word of God by; It is written, and then I ask myself which am I going to believe, the Word or my feelings? This is where judgment comes into play as in, 1Jo.4:17 “herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is so are we in this world”   Bible says “give no place to the devil” Eph.4:27, This is a judgment call, will I believe God, or will I choose to give place to the devil by allowing him to play with my mind. This is where it is so important to renew the mind to the Word of God; this is how we are transformed by the renewing of the mind.

JB

It is possible to completely close yourself off from feelings. Do you ever feel joy, peace, love? Do you ever feel sorrow? Do you ever feel anything? I wonder why God has given us emotions, since it is wrong to feel things like guilt? I wonder how anyone ever repents without having godly sorrow? It's OK to have good feelings, isn't it? Every good gift comes from God. The feelings that we call negative -- well they just can't be godly, can they?

One can’t help but feel some of these negative feelings at times, they will come in a moment’s notice, but when we look at the Word that tells us to bring every  thought captive to the obedience of Christ. 2Cor.10:5. When the thought comes with a negative feeling attached to it, the spirit will recognize it immediately as not being from God, at this time we recall this scripture and make a judgment call whether or not to cast it out or meditate on it; by meditating on it forms an image on the inside of us, the image if we think about it for a while, will become a stronghold. Bible says casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. 2Cor.10:5. This is where it is so important to renew our minds to the Word of God. We need to follow Jesus’ way of dealing with temptations; by saying “it is written” I heard that a temptation is “an appeal to the emotions to control the will in opposition  to the truth” This is why we do not allow these thoughts to take control, or dominate our emotions.

Do you ever feel sorrow?

Yes I feel sorrow, but it is being sorry for those that do not know Christ; those that when told about the Love of God etc. and they reject it, you can’t help that, but I don’t dwell on it, I just pray for them. A quick little testimony; I ran into a friend in a Sears store that I hadn’t seen is a long time, in the conversation I brought up the subject of Christianity and ask him if he knew the Lord; (not word for word) But he told me he didn’t believe in God or heaven, said when you die you just die and that is all there was to it and cut off the conversation. I left with that real heavy feeling, I went out to my truck and couldn’t help myself, but I just cried for him, feeling sorry for him not having ears to hear the gospel, prayed that someone would water the seeds that were sown, thanked God for the opportunity to get to minister to him. Then I can’t say I forgot about him, but I know I did what was expected of me as a Child of God. Now I just let the Spirit so the rest. So sure: we have sorrow and all the other emotions, but I don’t allow them to dominate my thinking to where it becomes burdensome. I take it to the Lord and leave it there.

I started once again on a study of making changes in my life, from the inside out. Outside changes in our lives will never be permanent until we change on the inside or the way we think. I have another book that seems to be from a secular point of view the name of it is “ You Can’t Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought”   I forgot the author, another friend has it now. But it has some good principles in it about our thinking. God has a lot to say about our thinking as well. Pr.23:7 As he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Phil.4:8. What so ever things are true, honest, just and pure, etc, think on these things.

I wonder why God has given us emotions, since it is wrong to feel things like guilt?

I’m not saying it is wrong to feel guilty at times, we probably should, but we just don’t let that guilt dominate our lives; we just remember what the Word said, if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, so I just confess it and take God at His Word, knowing I am free from condemnation. Then my conscience is clear and no more guilt. We just have to believe that God means what He says, we are who He says we are, we can do what He says we can do etc. What must we do to do the works of God, believe on Him whom He has sent? Jo.6:28-29.

I wonder how anyone ever repents without having godly sorrow?

Why would one even want to repent if he didn’t have godly sorrow?

It's OK to have good feelings, isn't it?

I certainly hope so, I would hate to think we would be going about feeling good and still be in error. lol

Every good gift comes from God. Yes!! James 1:17,

The feelings that we call negative -- well they just can't be godly, can they?

Well I never see in the Word where Jesus was ever negative in His thinking while on earth.

This study I am doing now is called “a 40 day fast from negative thinking” I believe it will be a life changer.

JB

I pray your 40 day study will lead you to only truth. Is it a teaching of a particular minister or ministry? In the Scriptures, I never see an account where Jesus or the disciples cast out emotions from someone. Your theology has always interested me. We definitely are fighting a spiritual battle. I know how much you dislike reading articles but here is a good one about 2 Cor 10:3-5. "Do we need to be aware of the spiritual battle that is taking plac...

It explains that:

There are fortresses all around us in this world, made of the “speculations” and “lofty things” that Paul spoke of in 2 Corinthians. The word “speculations” is, in the Greek, logismos. It means “ideas, concepts, reasonings, philosophies.” People of the world build up these logismos to protect themselves against the truth of God. Sadly, these fortresses often become prisons and eventually tombs. Our calling as Christians is to break down these fortresses and rescue the inhabitants. It is dangerous and difficult work, but we have a divine arsenal always at our disposal. Unfortunately, one of the enemy’s best tricks is getting us to fight with human weapons rather than divine.

I see in Scriptures where our Lord experienced a variety of emotions, such as anger and sorrow as well as joy. Feelings are just feelings. God created us with emotions. We sometimes allow them to get the best of us and we even commit sin when they do -- such as an angry, grieving father seeking to avenge above the law the death of his son killed by a drinken driver, etc ... I don't know that casting out the emotions is the answer, as if the emotions are demons. I think learning to manage emotions has value so that we don't act them out in negative and destructive ways. But I also think that self control is an attribute of the fruit of the Spirit and we can't produce it in ourselves. God grows it in us and it takes time. However, God has given us the liberty to believe whatever we want. So blessings to you as you study the bible ...

Amanda,

Thank you for wishing that my studies will lead only to truth, which I’m sure it will. Actually it is called a forty day fast from wrong or negative thinking. In other words a renewing of the mind.

Yes this is one study written by another pastor, Gregory Dickow  ministries,  out of Chicago. I’ve heard him before on this same subject, and thought I would see where he was coming from. After a brief analysis of the referenced scriptures he used, I decided to try it, and got the books relating to it. Usually I don’t like to use another’s material till after I have studied it out for myself  based on the Word, If I see value in it, I will study it till it becomes truth or revelation to me, but based on the Word and not just because it sounds good from another person. This is how I also tell those that I minister to. Study it out for yourself till it becomes a reality to you, if it doesn’t align with your revelation of the Word, then I would advise them to lay it up on a shelf; so to speak, and maybe later on you too will understand how I see it.

But I never take explanations of scripture as fact; based on a preacher, or a teacher’s explanation. The Word tells me in 1Jo.2:27, “but the anointing which ye have received of Him abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you, but that same anointing which teaches you of all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him” I know to justify their positions on these things, they will use scriptures from Eph.4:11-15. Where He says “He gave some apostles prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man “matured” unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ. ”  But there are some that think they need to sit under a preacher for the rest of their life, but notice it says “till we all come into the knowledge” They can teach you what they know, but the real teacher is the Holy Spirit. I like to listen to good messages, in church or wherever I hear it preached, but the Holy Spirit will teach you, or confirm what is being taught whether or not it is truth.

I don’t understand where or why they are using the word “speculations”?  2Cor.10:5 KJV, tells me “casting down imaginations  “Losgismos”; computation, i.e. (figurative) reasoning (conscience, conceit) :- imagination” Strong’s Conc. This is why we have so many different understandings; we have too many different translations “so to speak” or paraphrased bibles.

I see in Scriptures where our Lord experienced a variety of emotions, such as anger and sorrow as well as joy. Feelings are just feelings.

I have never seen where He ever went back to apologize for expressing His emotions either, but at the same time He never held them in to the point that it would compromise His faith or ability to perform miracles. See when we miss the mark, our conscience will be so defiled that we would not have the confidence to even pray for someone because of self-condemnation. The Word says in 1Jo.3:20-21, For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our hearts condemns us not, then do we have confidence toward God.  It’s our self-condemnation that hinders our prayer life; Bible says, there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Ro.8:1 so it is not a matter of casting out the emotions themselves per’se, but not giving place to that which influences the negative emotions. Remembering that God through the Holy Spirit is in control “if we let Him” of our situations.

But I also think that self-control is an attribute of the fruit of the Spirit and we can't produce it in ourselves.

Temperance is indeed an attribute of the Spirit which was deposited in your born again spirit the day you accepted Christ as savior. People try to pray for more Love, faith temperance etc. But all that comes with the salvation package, so to speak. It would be like when buying a new car and asking the car dealer to please give me some wheels and a steering wheel, etc. They come with the purchase of the new car all you have to do is accept them. 2Pet.1:2-3 He has given to us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.....

I don’t know what it is about my theology that would be of interest to you; why do you think it is any different than any other? I just see that when Jesus said on the cross; “it is finished” He meant that He had finished what He was sent here to do, redeem mankind from the kingdom of darkness; by fulfilling the law by the shedding of His blood on the cross. I see that He made provision for everything that mankind would ever encounter while here on earth. So I don’t see; “as others see it” that God allows these things to happen to us. I see that He made a way for us to escape “1Cor.10:13 ” the adversities we encounter here so we can live in peace; regardless of the situations we find ourselves in. This is why He told Paul that His grace was sufficient for him. In situations that we might find ourselves in, the grace of God “a Divine influence on our heart” will be sufficient to show us a way out, by reminding us of the fact that He has given to us all power and authority over all the works of the enemy, the enemy is a defeated foe, and he only has the power to deceive us into thinking that we are helpless, but we have the power of the Word abiding in us, and it is in the name of Jesus and faith in His name that will cause us to be overcomers. Because it is the faith of Jesus that does the work, our faith is in Him, but it is His faith that does the healing and deliverances of situations.  (a lot more, but getting too long)

Blessings to you.

JB

Hi JB,

Thanks for your advice, your msg has enlightened the feelings that I felt ocassionally.  Well every good comes from God and every bad comes from the enemy and we all know the enemy will make us small by  bribing us with his sweetness plus giving the guilty feeling and trying to make God look small... Well, I won't let that thought come in my way anymore...and if it does, I will remember our loving Father's word and his promise.

God bless your study and may your work be a blessing to others.

I know Jesus has forgiven us for our sins, since the day he died on the cross  of calvary for us.  But what I tell myself is I can't keep sinning for every little thing and telling myself..."hei don't worry, Jesus has forgiven you"  so that's when I feel really bad like I am using Jesus words to camouflage my sins.  My guilt sometimes is even for the smallest thing...Like when  I have an argument with my mom..she is a Hindu and I feel that she shows her differences with me on manyissues.  After the argument..(I know I should not argue with her) I feel so guilty and wonder...why did i do it, she is my mum and she is old...and i immediately tell her I am sorry and I feel so silly  cos, I show her a different character, not a character that people see Jesus in me....and that saddens me like exactly what you say..did I choose to give the devil room by allowing him to play with my mind. Why did I not think ahead or pray in my heart for God's word to shield me in the conversation with my mom, maybe if I had done that, the argument would have been just a conversation....Thanks JB...

I use to feel guilty over every little thing I did wrong until those words took on flesh & went thru me like a double-edged sword "Therefore, there is NOW no condemnation for him who is in Christ Jesus". I am in Christ as He is in me. To me, guilt is the enemy's tool of calling God a liar. If you walk around feeling guilty then obviously Christ didn't take on our guilt which makes God a liar. From that point on, if those guilt feelings try to weasel its way back into my thoughts I'm pretty great at pushing them out & then if it isn't that easy, I begin quoting all the Scriptures letting the enemy know he's a liar. The guilt is on his shoulders, not mine.

It is interesting to note that guilt and fear are actually normal responses that we have when we violate God's moral laws. It's as if we were designed this way. I think it's called conscience. The fear generally is a result of knowing that there will be consequences for the wrong choices we make and the guilt is simply because we know we made wrong choices.

Many people seek to justify those wrong choices. They rationalize and try to persuade themselves and others that the wrong choices were right ones. Confessing is what God wants from us. To confess means to agree with. God wants us to agree with Him that we sinned when we sinned.

So fear and guilt are actually emotions that are God given gifts to us. Balance is the key. Satan will play on our emotions and try to persuade us to believe lies in ways such as what you have described. The emotions themselves are not lies. Satan will play on our emotions and try to make us think that the guilt is still there and still on us. That is a lie when we have trusted in Christ as our Savior.

We do conquer these lies not by casting out the emotions, IMO, as if the emotions were wrong and evil and demonic. The emotions are godly. We conquer the lies by being able to identify them as lies and by knowing the truth of what God says about those lies. The truth frees us, not any casting out of an emotion. This truth comes to us from God as enlightenment. God gives us the knowledge and understanding and wisdom. That is mind renewal. Not something I can produce but a work that God is producing in me. There are many lies that people believe but I'm certain they haven't yet identified them as lies, otherwise they wouldn't keep on believing them. We are works in progress. Still feeling guilty even after knowing the truth just means the truth starts out as a little seed and must grow. It takes time.
