All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

How can a person prove to others the bible's not some "man made book corupted by man"? For those who believe it's God's word but it's been corupted over the years.

And, what do I do if I tell someone a doctrine (the deity of Christ), that it's in the bible but I get a comment "Than the bible's wrong!"

Hi Feet, God bless!

To know God, we have to read the Bible. A few verses to think about...

If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. (John 7:17)

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. (John 14:21)

If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me. (Deuteronomy 4:29)

Love,

Mary

Hilarious. Hi Feet. I couldn't read the reply for laughing.

If a person is seeking God with all their heart, God will prove Himself.

Hi Feetbreeze,

Can I call you "Footsies in the wind"?

First, dear one......chill out.

A lot of  people you might talk to....don't believe the Bible...to start with. 1 Corinthians 2:14, " But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. (Which means an unbeliever hearing about the Bible doesn't have a clue...and thinks it's all balderdash because they can't go along with it. It takes a true believer to fully appreciate the Word of God.).

And - 1 Corinthians 1:18, ' For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.".

So, our responsibility is to be living  examples of the Word....and tell the folks what John 3:16 means, answer questions (the best that we can), and turn them over to the Holy Spirit's conviction.......that's what He does.

I love your enthusiasm.

Grace and Peace.

Hi, and sure you can call me that.

Wow, this discussion has really turned into something!

Actually, there's atleast 4 or 5 people that I know who say the bible's been corrupted by man yet say they believe in the Christian God-please pray for them. Infact, a boy, I think I was in 10th grade, on the bus didn't even believe in miracles of Jesus like Him walking on water.

I have no right to judge his salvation (he said he was a Christian) but that is just o_o, confusing.

In short, you can't prove it's the word of God. You can point to scripture where it says it is but that doesn't prove anything. As for whether it has been "corrupted by man", there is loads of evidence to conclude that the Bible (or at least the New Testament) has not been altered over time. The below quote is from Sir Frederic G Kenyon, former director and principal librarian of the British Museum and his book The Bible and Archeology

The interval, then, between the dates of the original composition and the earliest extant evidence becomes so small as to be in fact negligible and the last doubt that the scriptures have come down to substantially as they were written has now been removed. Both the authenticity and the general integrity of the books of the new testament may be regarded as finally established.

So you take the word of a librarian over the Word of God?

How am I taking the word of a librarian over the word of God? The question of whether the New Testament has been altered over time is a legitimate question and we need to go to our historians and the like for the answer. We don't have the original manuscripts, we have copies and these have been copied by fallible humans (there is some discussion over a whether a passage about Jesus in the writings of Josephus has been altered and the general concencus is that the original text has been added to over time to exaggerate a point) The above quote from Sir Kenyon demonstrates that in the case of the New Testament documents, the scribes were very diligent in their copying.

Brother, it's not for me to answer. I was just asking as I felt led.

What isn't for you to answer?

You asked how you was taking the word of a librarian? I said I was just led to ask, not to answer your question.

I wonder why are so many people seeking physical proof of …the existence of God, the authenticity or originality of the Word etc.?

I believe that every Child of God owes it to himself to be established in the Word. To have the Word settled and fixed in his heart, so he will not be carried about by every wind of doctrine, sleight of men and cunning craftiness…. Eph.4:14.

The Word is Spirit! How can mortal man prove it?

To me; Faith does not require physical proof.

Joe
