All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

does bible consistently show that when people FIRST recieve Holy Spirit they will speak in tongues?

this topic is controversial so lets get what bible says.. many people point out 1 cor 12 and 14 showing that Not all speak in tongues to prove that not everyone will speak in tongues when they recieve the Holy SPIRIT to dwell in them for salvation. the only problem wiht using those scriptures is that is will contradict what happened in acts 8, 10, and 19. because the instructions for USING GIFT OF TONGUES was that 2 at MOST 3 should speak in tongues.. one at a time and there MUST be interpreter.. therefore in those chapters we obviously see that was not the case because THEY ALL spoke in tongues.. and didnt have an interpreter let alone who would he be interpreting it for.. in acts 19 paul was there.. he wouldnt allow them to be out of order and go against his own instruction.. so therefore we must conclude ther are DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS of speaking in tongues.. could one of the functions be to SHOW PROOF one has now recieved the holy spirit? how can we rule this out.. now i spoke in tongues when recieved holy spirit for first time, but i do not have the gift of speaking in tongues in the church to deliver message.. two different functions.. now i have prayed and began to speak in tongues a few times but not all the time.. so how can we disclaim the evidence of speaking in tongues

Chris,

Bless you my brother. Yes, I do pray often for others. I ask God to heal them, fill them, enrich them, save them and whatever else their need might be. I wish I could do more but I do ask God to do these things. I hesitate to claim that everyone I pray for will receive exactly what they ask for. So many who have serious diseases, impairments, blindness, deafness, etc. have not been healed. It may be our lack of faith but if that is true, then we all have that lack. Jesus healed every single person that came to Him. You and I can't do that even though we want to do that. There may be times that everyone gets healed but if that happens, it is still Jesus doing it. So, either no one has faith, or we need to seek to understand exactly what Jesus is saying.

I recently attended a service where a prophet came and announced that there would be a healing service. I saw a lady come in a wheelchair and asked to be healed. He told the lady that she could not be healed because there was unforgiveness in her heart. She was so disappointed.

I have been around charismatics for over fifty years. I have seen many attempt to live up to these words from Jesus. I have been to Hagin's, Copeland,s, Robert's, Cerullo's and lesser known healers' meetings. All, I hope, were attempting to do the works of God but none could heal them all. Is it their lack of faith?

I hurt when those we pray for do not receive their healing. However, I am willing to say that we just don't understand why. I don't believe it is our lack of faith or God's lack of love for these people. His Word is absolutely true and I believe it all. I laid my hands in prayer for a man with a brain tumor and he was healed. I saw a young girl with a high fever healed instantly. I thought maybe I was a healing evangelist or something. Then I prayed for a crippled lady that so desperately wanted to walk. She was not healed. She has been prayed for by many, many healing evangelists. She is still unable to walk. If I could heal everyone, I would do it. Cay you explain why some are healed and some are not? Is it their lack of faith? I don't think so. The guy with the brain tumor was not even a believer at the time. He did, however, become a believer later.

I will continue to ask God to heal and help everyone that asks for help. We are seeing God do some wonderful things in the Net Prayer Room. People are coming back on to the site and telling how God has intervened and we that are praying are so encouraged to keep praying for others. It does make a difference. There is much about God that I don't understand but I believe Him completely. I have given Him my life in service.

I do not have a problem at all with you praying in tongues. I'm not sure what I said that might have made you think so. I do not think that everyone will pray in tongues. I hope you pray for me. There are many on this site that pray in tongues. I am so grateful for each one of them. I am grateful for every prayer warrior that we have whether they speak in tongues or not. We prayer warriors had better start praying more for our country. We are in a critical situation. We need to pull out all the stops, use every gift we have, and pray for God's mercy.

I hope I have not disappointed you too much. Bless you, brother.

My Dear Brother

I did not mean that second paragraph for you, it was just in general of things I had see of others share.  I have a failed back fusion and many other things that have added to me being disabled for 9yrs or so.  And even before at of those things I have had many things wrong with me, even starting from birth.  In the past I have laid hands on many and to His Glory most have been healed.  About 30yrs ago I wanted my sight to be healed.  I do not remember who the woman was who told me this, (she is a big time woman of God now, on TV etc) that does not really matter.  It was what she told me after I went up for healing.  I had taken my glasses off, without them I am legally blind.  After she Prayed she told me, "Chris just because you have taken off your glasses does not mean you have the faith for healing."  I went not wearing them for a few years.  I was under Much Grace,  for as I drove and worked without them.  One day Holy Ghost told me to put them back on.  I obeyed.  I have Prayed many times for healing.  Have stood on the Word.  Like you "I have been to Hagin's, Copeland,s etc"  yet not been healed.  As I have said laid hands on many, still to this day with much success, All to His Glory not mine!  Years ago I asked God why I am still disabled?  Basically I was told, "I will learn more for not being healed."  And, as the years have gone this is still very true.  Many have told me I was wrong.  I have not argued this point with anyone.  Yet, the Truth is I have learned more of His Grace, Mercy, and Love from not being healed.  So I have learned many things from and through the problems I have with my body.  I take meds for pain, I am basically in constant pain.  I have others reason for other meds.  Some have told me I lacked Faith, since I take meds.  I have smiled and asked them to keep me in their Prayers.  I do have Faith no matter what I take.  My Hope and Trust is in the Lord.

I have been around charismatics for over 35 yrs.  Heard many teachings on many things.  Some I have not agreed with.  Have seen many people hurt from not have success in things that those who preached them.  I have seen both side of the coin, as I believe you have.  In the end, we must always believe and know that we are Children of the Most High.  His Love for us is real, no matter what we face.  I truly believe I have learned more from not receiving the answer I wanted.  One day Holy Spirit asked me, "if this is all there is for you, will you still follow Me.  Will you still Love Me if your life does not change in areas that you are asking Me to change?"  I was truly Blessed when I felt deep inside of myself, "Yes, My Lord, I will Love You no matter."  So I know not everyone is healed.  I know I can lay hands on others, while I am in pain.  Please do not think I say this in pride.  It is just that I know at least for me why not everyone gets healed.

Roy you have not disappointed me at all.  As I have told you before, I have a great respect for you.  I have seen how you have Prayed for others.  I have seen His Love through your words and actions.

Yes Brother I agree we need to Pray more for our country.  Yet, it feels very soon for His return.  We also need to Pray for a mourning cry for those lost.  It feels like the time is so very close, and so many things are in motion.  That we reach out as never before, as the Body of Christ.  The things we do not agree with do not matter, as much as, what we do agree on.  Which is of course Jesus is the Son of God.  And as His Bride we reach out; we mourn for those lost.  That they see the Light.  For the things we agree on, far and away, out weigh anything we do not.  To His Glory, Praise, and Honor.  I know we agree on those things.  Lord Bless

Amen.

That’s right Roy;

I wouldn’t think for a minute you would be trying to discourage me in any way.

I think I know you better than that.

Because I quote the Word in all my responses, doesn’t mean that I am walking in that area of faith at all times. I also wish I were, but do to the fact that we are in this fallen state, we are totally bombarded my so much negativity, we can’t focus our attention of the need at hand, we are distracted by doubts, fears and our environment and we get our eyes off of God, and it takes an unwavering faith to do the works that Jesus did. Do we have the authority and the power to do so? Yes!

Here is an experience I had one morning, I was as confused about faith as everyone else I knew, so I used to get up about 4:30 every morning to pray and study the Word. This particular morning I just had to ask God about faith, because I was confused by what everyone I heard was saying about it. How faith would heal the sick, set the captives free etc. I could confirm what was being said in the Word, but I wasn’t seeing it in my walk with the Lord. So when I got settled down that morning, I said “Lord I’m just going to ask you about faith,” and if you ever had your hearing checked, they will put you in a little room, and all you could hear was a roar. Well when I asked Him about faith, it seemed like I went in that little room, I was not exactly aware of my surroundings at that time, and I heard a voice or a strong impression on my heart, and it said,”faith does not move me” I just about fell over, because I had never heard anything like that before, and I said, “that’s right! Faith will move a mountain, but it doesn’t move God.” And I said, but Lord I do everything you tell me to do in the bible, but I don’t see these signs following me as you said they would in Mark 16, I said you told the disciple to go out and heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, they didn’t ask questions, they just went out and did it, I said, we are in the same dispensation as they were, what did they have that we don’t have? And He said “it is not what they had that you don’t have, but it is what you have that they didn’t have, your radio, Television, house Pmts. car Pmts., and all these things that pulls your eyes off of me.” And I of course I had to question that, so I said, “But Lord, I use my radio to get more Word in me, by listening to bible answers, by Bro. Westlake; and I use my TV. To watch Bro. Copeland on Sunday mornings, ”  and He said, “that is another one of your problems, when you go to lay hands on someone, you don’t know if Bro Westlake is right, because he says that it is not My will that everybody be healed, or they would be healed wouldn’t they? Or if Bro. Copeland is right, who says that it is My will for everyone to be healed, So read James 1”, Well I knew what James 1 says, “with a wavering faith, let not that man think he shall receive anything of the Lord” and He said, “so see. When you go to pray for someone, you don’t know if Bro. West Lake is right or Bro. Copeland, and you will have a wavering faith” And I said Lord, from now on I will listen to the other preachers, but I will only believe what your Word is telling me.

How I wish I could hear that voice more often, but I haven’t heard it that way since.

So we do get distracted and influenced by what others say, and our faith is usually shipwrecked by our doubts and a wavering faith.

I love that song we used to sing, “When all things that surround, becomes shadows in the light of you….. The reason I live, is to worship you.”

I believe that it takes a totally committed and a surrendered life, and a faith unfeigned;  to be able to walk in this earth as a New Creation and to do the works that Jesus did. Mk.5:39-41, Jesus had to put all those that were laughing at Him, because He said that the damsel was only asleep, so He had to get rid of all the doubt in the room, before He raised the girl up from the dead. And He could do no mighty works in His own town, because of their unbelief. Mat.13:58

So if it wasn’t for our doubts, fears, and unbelief’s and a wavering faith, we too could do those same works. That’s my belief.

Blessings,

Joe

So, what do we do? We are not getting everyone healed of their physical impairments but we continue to tell of the wonders of God's grace. This we know, all who put their faith in Christ will be absolutely healed. They are given a life that will never grow old, that will never fail, that will never be sad, that will never be sick and that will never die. Every person that believes that message will have that life. For this present imperfect life, those with sicknesses like Timothy, those with a thorn like Paul and those with physical impairments like Chris (by the way, Chris, I was told the same thing about wearing glasses), we continue to serve our Lord, preach the Gospel to every creature and learn to trust Him for all those areas we do not understand. I am in agreement with Joe, I know God's Word is true.

I believe in God and I believe in you guys. I thank God for you. I will take a guy that believes in His Word, any day over those who have dismissed it as only partially true. If I am going to be in a battle, I want to be with those that believe.

Amen

So good to know I was not the only one.  Thank you Brother

I actually thought I had removed myself from this discussion because regardless of the pages typed, no one will come into full agreement. I hate when I get so caught up in these discussions that does nothing but cause anger. Why anger? Who knows? It's not like because someone is not in agreement with your interpretation they are against you. They are against your interpretation. I, personally, think our time & efforts could be better spent on more prominent issues, like growing one another in the Lord as iron sharpens iron. I've learned from way too many discussions over the years that these type of discussions are based on pride & hammers knocking each other out instead of building one another up. And I've been the one with the sledge hammer one time too many. I would like to say if I've caused any offense whatsoever, I ask forgiveness. As long as I'm wrong, I'm always learning. I should never think my knowledge be above anyone's and the hardest lesson I've learned over the past several years is I'm not always right (don't tell my husband though).

Tammy, may I ask, to whom are you directing your response to?

Joe

Arguing is not for me. I've rarely seen anything positive come out of an argument except a black eye. Thank the Lord it was never mine.

Joe,

Whoever was interested enough in my opinion to read it. If  you read it closely, I didn't direct it at anyone. I didn't reply to anyone. I was just expressing my views as I felt led. If you noticed, I did say if I've caused any offense Whatsoever which means to anyone about anything. So, Joe, if I've offended you, never intended on doing so.

Dear Tammy,

There is nothing you or anyone else can do or say that would offend me. I’m just a little too mature for that kind of nonsense. You will learn that being offended at what man can say or do; would put me in the same category as they. That was revealed to me a long time ago. The same goes for forgiveness; I can honestly say; I hold nothing against anyone, though I have been taken advantage of many times in the various businesses I have started. But God has given me grace to overlook things like that. So I am free; praise God from trivialities that so easily besets so many Christians today.

Be blessed, this is the day the Lord has made.

Joe.

It's great you've matured so much that nothing can offend you brother. I feel the same as you about forgiveness. Now there are those I just stay away from so I won't have to be put in that position - mother-in-law for instance. When I grow up, I want to be just like you.
