A generation was captivated by the possibilities of space through the fictional TV Series, Star Trek. In more recent times, the Star Wars series has evolved and been viewed as a scenario that could unfold in the worlds of the unknown. Earlier (1954), there was the film produced by Disney entitled, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, where we were introduced to a whole different life and lifestyle. We were so easily caught up in the brilliance of… Continue

Oh, God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry; When I have work, help me to remember the jobless; When I have a warm home, help me to remember the homeless; When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer; And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency and bestir my compassion. Make me concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. "For I was hungry and you gave Me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a…

Upon entering College, the class was assigned and challenged to read the dictionary – at least five (new) words a week. Reading a Dictionary can be very boring or very exciting. If one is to expand his/her vocabulary, there is no alternative. For those who study people and their vocabulary usage, the following is the best estimate of a Vocabulary Count in various sectors: “Grade 1 Student =1,000 words; Normal Person (Graduate) = 5,000 to 6,000 words;… Continue

Thanksgiving is the time to pray and thank God for his continuous grace. Families offer group prayers both in church as well as homes. Customary Thanksgiving prayer before the Thanksgiving feast is quite popular. Some prayers said during Thanksgiving Day are as follows:
Thanksgiving
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Thanksgiving is the time to feel gratitude to God for all the good things in life. It is a time to acknowledge the good deeds of fellowmen and be thankful. Thanksgiving thoughts of people give us an insight as to what people feel about it.
* Life can be very trying. When your child is hungry, your body wracked with pain, or you have no idea where you and your family will find a place to sleep, it's hard to find something for which you can be thankful. So, for just a few minutes on…

As a Christian I am troubled by the condition of the world around me. I am saddened by the heartache and suffering that seems to be prevalent in peoples lives. I am appalled at the audacity of the godless in their thumbing of their noses at God and his ways! These are all signs of the times! God comes for those that love him. He comes soon! I believe very soon. Scripture tells us a little about what this world will be like just before he returns for his people. I find the description of the…

I'd like to tell everyone that next Sunday, after living one year in my new life in Him, I will be baptized!
I've heard contradicting statements of whether or not baptism was commanded by Jesus, but I do know that I am making a commitment to follow Christ fully for the rest of my life on this earth, and for eternity, and I believe that is what matters.

At the birth of this nation, many notable men made a contribution. Not all had religious scruples of a valid religious belief system. One such man was Thomas Paine. He was reared a Quaker but never embraced “religion” as anything he valued for himself. In the course of time and events, he became a prolific writer. As such, he was an Interlocutor of his time – one who “takes part in a conversation or dialogue...a person who questions; an interrogator.” In… Continue

It’s Monday night, the game is on, the score is 24-14 and only 1:40 minutes left in the game. Your team is loosing, you think it’s a waste of time to keep watching the game, so, you go on and switch channels thinking the game is almost over and your team is about to loose. Five minutes later you decide to check the final score… to your surprise; your team made a miraculous comeback and won 28-24. Every athlete knows that the game is not over until the referee blows the whistle. Regardless of…

Living In The eye Of The Storm with God
Wow what a thought, I recently saw a movie about a huge hurricane that hit this town. The storm was really bad and then all of a sudden the sun came out and the winds stopped and the people thought the storm was all over. A wise old man said to the people that the storm was not over but but they were in the eye of the storm.
All I could think of was Psalm 91 that…

Good Morning. Jeremiah 30 has been a great source of encouragement for me this morning. The Lord promises that he will heal our wounds; despite our great multitude of guilt and sin. He promises to restore us if we draw closer to him. However as a God of justice and one who disciplines his children we will not go entirely unpunished. (ie there are consequences to our actions).
Those of you who saw my discussion this week knows that I have been struggling with sin and this was a great…

Even in the best of times, the holiday season can be a time of financial stress and pressure. The opportunities to spend money and the temptations to incur debt are powerful.
Of course, these aren’t the best of times, economically speaking. As we enter this holiday season, many couples are battling real fear about their financial futures.
I write to you today because I care deeply about Christian marriages and about your marriage. Few factors have a greater impact on the…

If you were to turn on your television and watch the news, you would probably be very discouraged and disappointed. Sadly, most of the news is not news; it is mostly bad news. Just to name a few: wars, natural disasters, riots, and financial collapses.
The problem with this is that we tend to pay too much attention to bad news, and whether we admit it or not, it affects us and every decision that we make in life.
But here is the good news; you don’t have to live your life according to…

"Mark, it is not easier to be on the road longer when you are travelling with two dogs and a cat." I could feel the edge coming into my voice. My husband and I had been having this same conversation over the past several weeks. He was in Texas and I was in Ohio. He left over a month earlier to begin his new job.I stayed behind until we could arrange housing in Texas. His trip had taken two days, pulling a trailer with all of our belongings. I had been been dreading this trip for several…

The old saying “talk is cheap” has a reality to it in these times. Even though it costs millions of dollars to place Ads and to get one’s point of view before the public, the reality remains – rhetoric is one thing – content/substance is another. To be able to deliver or to have a means to deliver in terms of one’s rhetorical declarations – requires foundational principles and a clear, precise idea how the rhetoric will be matched by… Continue

We have all heard about, or seen, or participated in an auspicious moment in our lives. Hopefully – there have been many such occasions. In the current trend of our times, “auspicious” does not appear to be the operative word. “Auspicious” refers to “promising success; opportune; favorable…giving promise of prosperity, or happiness; predicting good…” Can President-Elect Obama, with all his oratorical skills, and seeing the realities of this nation and… Continue
