All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I’m having a hard time witnessing to people I know, Coworkers especially. I’m learning the Bible all over again and feel very anxious/ fear when I need to follow the great commission about what someone may say or think. I’m so tried of feeling this way because I know Jesus is the one and only truth. Any suggestions on witnessing, when you don’t know the Bible through and through? Thanks

Trust God that He has placed you where He wants you to be. He gives the increase. Our job is to plant and water. Most new people don't understand a lot of verses. You can actually overload them. They can handle maybe 2-3 verses at a time and maybe 1-2 subjects, but they will need almost daily contact even if it is for a few minutes. Don't try to teach the new person a whole book of the Bible. If you give meat to a baby or try to spoon too much food in his/her mouth, the baby will choke. Somebody new is a babe. Psalms is a very good place to start, like find verses about God's steadfast love and commit them to heart. Most people are looking for God's love, forgiveness, what are you looking for? What is their heartfelt need? Maybe they need healing. There are verses in Psalm 113 that are very healing. Maybe they need a good friend to talk to. Never talk about them or what they said to others. Talk to the Good Shepherd.

God bless,

Mary

Thank You Mary. I was just asking about getting over fear of witnessing to my coworkers. Hope I related that correctly in my last response. I haven’t spoke negatively about them, just need some encouragement on not being afraid to share th important Good news with them. Thanks again a bunch

Since you are around your coworkers so much. Something you could do is to make a comment about adding coworkers to your prayer list. I also post prayers in different places. What is comfortable for you? When I hear that someone is having surgery, I'll make a comment about praying for them. Things happen to people and their families. Next thing you know someone is going to ask you to pray for so and so. If you can work up to praying together, that's awesome. It takes time and lots of prayer. People need to gain your trust. If you're like me, you're not supposed to witness at work. No one has ever tried to stop me from praying. There are no rules of conduct about praying for other people. Who knows, maybe someone will say to you...You're praying aren't you.

Something else you can do is make sure your work is the best that you can do. Bosses need Jesus Christ too. Also, be friendly and smile. Not like syrup. Genuinely care about people. People can tell. Study fruit of the spirit. Be kind and gentle.

God bless,

Mary

My dear Little Sister I'm a Big Old Salty Marine disabled now and no longer able to work. But, at work was a great place to try and be an example of who Christ is by my actions daily. I would never hide the fact to others who I was as a follower of Jesus. Once a man who was a contractor at our facility came to our office to do some work for us. He had just received very bad news about his wife. She was leaving him. He was literally shaking so I asked him to step outside and talk with me at a small table near the entrance to our building. We talked for a long time about his pain and even though we had never met before, it was as if we were old friends. I had been prayerfully asking God to bring someone into my life that we could help. God answered in a big way. I gave the fellow a "Pocket Testament" Gospel of John. I don't know what happened in this fellows life. But, I know God does. Prayer and faith in the Father is a perfect combination. Now I can pray for you also Little Sister. Because you are here.

Good morning Pecanbrown, I know what you are going through, I have been there, as I believe everyone else has, but what I came to realize was, I am a witness, I don’t go out to witness to others, I just try to live my life being led by the Spirit before them, when they see the joy and peace that you have in circumstances that most would be upset about, they will wonder what you have that they don’t, then you can let them know about the Joy you have, and the Holy Spirit then can do the witnessing through you. The Word says in Isaiah 55:11-12 (KJV) 11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12  For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

When we try to do these things on our own, it is usually out of our own efforts, or works, not necessarily being led by the Spirit. So, don’t let self-condemnation rule your life if you don’t preach to them, just be yourself and be at peace. There is no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus. Rom.8. I found out if you tell them how a Christian should live, they will be expecting it out of you at all times, and if you happen to miss the mark, get mad, or blurt out a word that is not conducive to a pure Christian “expected ”lifestyle, then they will be, more than likely turned off on Christianity, thinking you are no different than they.

Blessings to you,

JB

Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi Pecanbrown;

What you're feeling is totally normal.  For me it's helpful to remember that it's the Holy Spirit that draws people in.

If you're worried about what to say because you feel you don't know the bible well enough, just share your testimony.  Share your story.  No one can take your story from you.

Why do you believe as you do?  Talk about your personal relationship with Jesus and why you trust and believe Him.  When people ask questions, my Pastor says to always start your answer with Jesus.  He is the centre, the foundation, the core, the reason ....why we believe as we do.  Introduce Him to people, which will lead to the message of the gospel.  The Holy Spirit will take care of the rest.

We all have struggled or still struggle with this.  You're not alone.

Blessings, Carla

Thank You so much. I just feel like at the present time in my life I’ve sinned against God and my siblings in the past as a Christian. I’ve been given a rewind button of my life from God and he showed me the errors in my ways to one point in time I though I lost my salvation and even question if I was a child of God. I’m trying to not let doubt in my life succeed because I know Jesus is my only one and true savior and hope but after so much I ask how can I be used by God after all of the mistakes and sin. Maybe that is what stops my lips but then I think about people still need Jesus like I do everyday. I try to think about David, Peter and Saul of Tarsus changed Paul etc. How God used imperfect people with tremendous flaws and they did the work of God through Jesus Christ. I try to keep this in mind but fail most often, I have to keep trying because it is the Good News for us all. Just praying for the lifting of fear and anxious. Thank You
Pecanbrown, I hope you can see the beautiful testimony in what you’ve written above. God’s unrelenting love and forgiveness. We all have brokenness that you have described and are feeling so deeply. When you share the love and forgiveness of Christ, you are magnifying and glorifying our Lord. Your story is not finished. He’s not done with you. You may want to pray about what He’s teaching you right now, but I suspect it may have something to do with ‘In our weakness He is strong’.

Love In Christ, Carla
Your words flow so eloquently to my soul. Thank you so much and I believe it so that he is not done with me yet. Mary O I also appreciate your words of encouragement too

Praise God!

This is not uncommon, especially with those who have not become familiar with the scriptures yet. I think that is one of the reasons why the Apostles told us that our godly, holy living would testify of our experience. We often say that we do not even have to open our mouths to touch someone because we are different from the world, our lives have been so changed that it will not go unnoticed. We don't talk the same, dress the same, or go to the same place anymore, and that speaks volumes.
