Hi Charles,

I had a difficult time with this question as well, with regards to understanding it. I have since learned that individual's who say they are gay, but do not actually have sex with someone of their own gender, are actually still actracted to the same sex. This is called their "sexual orientation". There is a book out called "Love Is an Orientation, Elavating the Conversation with the Gay Community." By Brian McLaren. If you are interested in getting involved ministry wise, I highly recommed this book.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Hi Chipster,

“What kind of ministry?????”

Ministering to the homosexual. I know you have heard some homosexuals say “I was born this way. How can God say that homosexuality is a sin, when I was born this way?” How would you respond to a person who told you that?

“How would you serve such a ministry???”

How I would serve in such a ministry is first and foremost prayer, no one can go into any ministry without praying. Additionally, I would speak with a person who is gay as the Word of God tells us to do and that is by speaking the truth in love. (Ephesians 4:15)

I would not judge or condemn them. I would however, use the Word of God in a loving way and show them that homosexuality is a sin and that God loves them and wants them as His own.

“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)

I disagree with you that “Only God can place that before you…”

The Word tells us…

“15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” (Mark 16:15-20, KJV)

We as the body of Christ have Hope that we are to reach out to the lost and dying of this world with love.

I used this analogy in one of my university courses…Jesus tells us that we are to be “fishers of men.” Now anyone who knows anything about fishing knows that when you catch a fish, and real it in, that, that fish did not come scaled, gutted, cleaned, and all ready for you to eat. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, with the cooperation of the individual to allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in transforming that person into the child of God that He intended them to become. This does not mean we cannot aid the individual by teaching them the Word of God.

Thank you for your response. I guess part of my understanding of the issue is that I aproach things from a little more scientific standpoint. For instance, the term 'sexual orientation' is (  in my opinion anyhow) a term that is used to 'justify' (perhaps not the best word) homosexual behavior by insinating that 'sexual orientation' is somehow genetic.

From a biological standpoint I cannot buy into that anymore than I buy into 'evolution' (which I also have done a lot of research on).  I have found that there is an abundance of 'theory' and an incredible lack of any 'emperical' data. Anyone can have an opinion (which is basically what a theory is) but when these 'opinions are presented as fact that is where I part ways with them.

In other words I basically view the term 'sexual orientation' as a political rather than scientific term. Psychiatry used to refer to homosexuallity as a 'mental disorder' because of the many and diverse reasons for people ended up in this way of life. However, bowing to pressures from the homosexual community they no longer do.

While I do not dismiss the fact that some homosexuals honestly believe that they were ' born' that way thereis no biological evidence to support that stand.  It is much like the Masters and Johnson (I believe that was the name of the instution) that based many of their findings on surveys of the population rather than hard scientific evidence. And psychiatry will quickly state that people will many times go to extremes to 'justify' their actions. While they may truely believe something that does not make it true. I hasten to add that this applies to many areas of life and not just the homosexual issue.

I feel that I also need to quickly add that I am not one of those who wants to 'burn the faggots at the stake' .

They are simply sinners like everyone else who need a savior I just strongly oppose reason for 'justifying' anything God calls a sin as being something, more or less ,'beyond their control.

Again I thank you for responding and understand where you are coming from and totally agree that ministry to them is as important as it is to any other sinners.

God bless you

Now, I absolutely believe they can be born into this because we are all born in sin. Whose to say this cannot be their desires from the get go? However, to live for the Lord, they must fight the flesh from which they were born. Just my thoughts.

I agree with you Tammy,

In my opinion, my brother is one of those who had a predisposition to be gay. I also believe our mother's words was a factor. She would say in front of me and my brother that, "He should have been born a girl, and I should have been born a boy." He was very feminine, and I was a classic tomboy, I still am a tomboy for the most part. I also agree with you Tammy that we all have a choice of whether or not to indulge in any sin.

I really like how the Amplified Bible states the following verses:

"20 A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]" (Proverbs 18:20-21).

Charles, that makes so much sense brother. Thank you

1 Corinthians 6:9-11Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. I think Paul answered this question for us. notice verse 11 where he says "such WERE some of you". That is past tense. We were drunkards, we were thieves, we were homosexuals but now, present tense, we are washed and sanctified which means set apart. Set apart from what? The sinful way of thinking believing and living that we once lived by. We are set apart from that by the righteousness of Christ. Where there is a true encounter with Jesus in the heart and soul, we are no longer the person we were before.

I think enough have answered the question that I'm not going to.  What I'm going to do instead is ask why, once saved, would they call themselves a homosexual still?  Practicing or not?  Or do they not believe the truth that they accepted that they are a child of God?  God calls them righteous now.  He doesn't call them homosexual.

but are  not still homosexual no matter what we do?

Is that what God says you are?  God says we're righteous, we're children of God, we're adopted into sonship, we're a holy people, we're God's holy temple, we're the body of Christ.

This is one reason we have to stay in the Word.  You ever hear you are what you eat?  Well you also are what you speak.  I spoke negative for several years, but staying in the Word has changed it moreso positive.  I still get down and think negatively, but I'm learning better and better not to speak it.  I can tell myself I'm stupid over and over til I believe it...even if my IQ was just 70.  Or I could tell myself that God has given me wisdom and feel smart and perhaps that IQ number would increase because I began to believe in better things.

We talk ourselves into many situations.  We talk ourselves into worry, anxiety...make ourselves sick by saying over and over how sick we are (this is one I still fight).

So you can say you're homosexual over and over and that is what you will believe, and therefore still be tempted by it.  Or you can say all those things God says about you until the thoughts of being homosexual fade.  It may take years for that to happen, but it won't happen if you keep reminding yourself you're homosexual....a lie based on God's Word.  So we have to try to speak the Word moreso than the world.

I do not understand how one can be a homosexual without practicing homosexual acts. To be saved, you have to have been a sinner. So we come from different backgrounds. Some of us were murderers, others rapists, witches, thieves, slave traders..... name it. Some of these things you'll find have very strong roots in our lives for they pertain to the ancestors. That is what we call the sin of the fore fathers. It is the empty way of life that was handed down from our fore fathers. (1 Pet 1:18). But then when we repent and are saved, although temptations may not cease overnight, we do not go under the same labels as before. Our position changes and so does our destination. When you are justified, you do not go under the same label again. You are a saint and not a homosexual or a thief or whatever name you went under.

The act of being born again is the the beginning of a new life. You learn to live the new life. We have a provision of grace as The Lord put it when He instructed Peter to forgive his brother "seventy-seven" times in a day. That's Gods way of doing things and the blood of Jesus is available to cleanse sins during that period. During that time there are works that God does on us leading to "finishing of transgression (these are sins committed in innocence ie while trying to do good)  put an end to sin (rebellion- there are sins we commit knowing that God does not approve, yet we find our selves powerless under the driving force) and to atone for wickedness. Exodus 22:20 "Whoever sacrifices to any other God other than the Lord must be destroyed." This is a form of wickedness and the resultant state of destruction has contributed towards proliferation of the heinous acts that we are witnessing in this world. So then we need the sacrifice of atonement. The flesh burned by fire that our flesh may die once for all that we may be able to walk in holiness.

Homosexuality is not the worst sin so one does not have to be stigmatized.

I may not be as clear as I intended for I tried to condense information.

>>>Some of us ***were*** murderers, others rapists, witches, thieves, slave traders.....

Good point Paul says in 1 Timothy 1:13 Who ***was*** before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
