I think it's about people who don't believe they need God. Not just that they don't believe he exists but think they're good enough without him. They don't fear him (but then, neither do I)

Hi Demika,

Psalm 36:1

1I have a message from God in my heart

concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:b

There is no fear of God

before their eyes.

Have you ever had a conversation with an atheist?  There is no fear of God.  Therefore, there is no wisdom or understanding.

psalm 53:1 says " For the director of music. According to mahalath. A  maskil of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good."

By saying 'no fear' I do not mean to 'be afraid', but rather it is a respect, wisdom and understanding of who He is and acknowledging Him in His rightful place as Creator and Lord and Saviour of humanity.

Proverbs 9:7-12 says this:

7Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;

whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.

8Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;

rebuke the wise and they will love you.

9Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;

teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

11For through wisdomb your days will be many,

and years will be added to your life.

12If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;

if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

Notice in verse 10 it says "

10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."

This also makes me think of 1 Corinthians 1:18

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

 :-)

Blessings, Carla

thank you Carla for explaining that to me.  I thought thats what it meant I just had to be sure.  It clears alot up for me and thank you for the other verses as well. be blessed

thank you chip for your reply

An oracle is an utterance from God or prophetic revelation. The psalmist is saying that down deep in his heart he was given insight about what was really wrong with the wicked. This insight came from divine revelation. God revealed the character of the wicked to the psalmist.

thank you Tammy for your reply
