All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hello,

One of the first things the Lord put on my heart after becoming a Christian about 2 years ago was: get rid of everything in our home that is dishonouring to the Lord.

There were many things we got rid of. But for some reason my husband didn't want to part with his Stephen King books and a book called Urantia (this book claims to be the next instalment of the Bible, and claims that Jesus was one of many "gods", and I believe is satan's next big attempt at false religion).

I have cleansed our home of everything I could find that is dishonoring to God, but these books remain, and I cringe to know they're still here.

My question is, is it ok to get rid of these books "quietly"? I doubt my husband would notice they are gone, but don't know if it would be stealing to get rid of them without his knowing. I don't want to have him feel disrespected, but also the Lord made it fairly clear that He wants these things gone.

What should I do?

Thank you,

Jenny

I haven't read much of Urantia but when a Christian told me that was one of his favorite books I had to go check it out. Girl, that thing is messed up. That thing need to be put in the trash. It's just bizarre. Now, I'm sure others will say the same of Stephen King but I'm a horror girl. Don't anyone respond & trip on me please. That has to be a personal conviction. Urantia is stated as fact. Stephen is stated as fiction. As far as me getting rid of something without my husband's knowledge, we have the type of relationship where I could go to him & tell him I don't feel these things need to be in our home & I don't feel it's the Lord's will. He would give me permission to flush them.

I'm glad you have such a relationship with your husband. I pray the Lord will bring us to a place where we can seek the Lord with one accord. However for the time being, my husband doesn't honour my convictions, or at least puts up a great resistance. He seems to think that if something is the Lord's will, He will make it known to my husband first-hand...

Yes, the Urantia book screams falsehood for me too. And the Stephen King books are a strong personal conviction because they seem to me to be inspired by the realm of the devil.

So the question remains, if he won't give these books up willingly, should I make it easier for him and take it upon myself to get rid of them?

Hun, I think you're going to have to pray about it because if you're submissive to your husband, the Lord will make it plain to Him. The Lord blesses our obedience to His Word.

Hi Marco,

Since these books belong to my husband, I have decided its not a good move to take them without his knowing. So in the meantime, we are stuck with these things in our home. He has no intention of parting with the Urantia book. Any advice for what to do while this literature is still in our home? Anything to neutralize the demonic power that may come with having these materials around?

I think these things can only have as much power as you give them. IMO. Just continue to pray for the anointing of your home, pray for your husband without ceasing & lift your children up always. I'm sure there has bound to be things in my home that may be evil that is still hanging out. I don't believe an item can destroy your home. Don't give Satan more credit then he deserves but also don't totally dismiss him either.

Sister,Tammy, you mean it's possible to still do God's will and evil items be in the house? Theres items I don't want but don't have much of a choice. So, God won't nesasarily be mad if it's not my fault or it was items bought before Jesus saved me that I can't get rid of?

the bible says to obey our parents, so i think that if you're parent has said you must not get rid of them, God won't hold you accountable...

Yes He will bless you breeze. You've done everything the Lord has required. He will convict your husband & hold him accountable for the choices he makes for the family.

Hi Tammy, God bless!

Not tripping.  :-)  I watch crime solving programs occasionally. I think profiling's interesting.

Love,

Mary

I love me some reality shows: First 48, Forensic Files, City Confidential, 48 Hours Hard Evidence

Acts 19:19

English Standard Version (©2001)
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.

The verse above does not apply to your circumstance, but it came to my mind when I read your predicament.

>>My question is, is it ok to get rid of these books "quietly"? I doubt my husband would notice they are gone, but don't know if it would be stealing to get rid of them without his knowing.

If your husband and you have already giving each other the liberty to do such a thing without consulting with the other than that would be ok, but if you have not established that freedom in your relationship, than it is not the best way to go about it. I have told my wife that if there is a movie among my collection of movies that she believes should not be there than she is free to throw it away without having to inform me of it. She has also given me that freedom. We are extremely selective of what we allow in our house, but among my movies I had Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I have not watched the movie in ages, but we put it on a couple of months ago and she was uncomfortable with the scenes in the movie, so we turn it off and she threw it away.

Talk to him and tell him of the conviction God has placed in your heart about such things. He might just turn around and tell you to toss them, if not take him to the Lord in prayer and asked Him to work in his heart.

Love and blessings.

Tell you what, I'm sure David will agree. David & I will be praying that the Spirit be already preparing his heart ahead of time so when you come to him, he will see your conviction came from the Lord.
