Please do keep on praying for the request of mine down below, and I know I can count on you to do it:

Please "WIN the 10/40 WINDOWS" for JESUS CHRIST.
The 10/40 Windows (located between 10 - 40 degrees North of Equator - between West Africa to East Asia) need Missionaries, have no church at all, and there live about 40 percent of the world population. INDONESIA, my country is in the 10-40 windows though we have churches. Please also pray for ISRAEL and all over the world. Let's get on our knees, praying hand in hand with me for their revival. I look forward to the day when the Lord who I kneel to worship will be recognized by all the living and the dead as the One True Lord.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

A message was given recently in which Jesus said, the mansion I went to prepare for you is now finished. All is ready for Me to bring My people home.

With much love in Christ: Christy Gabriel B

I am being made aware that Jesus is coming sooner than many think. Many will not be ready for His return. We need to be ready, wise virgins, keeping oil in our lamps.

My wife and daughter are preparing Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year. I think I heard it was 23 people total including us four. The past few years we had a tradition going where we got together and rented a house for the weekend "down the shore" (NJ slang for one of several towns along the barrier islands, like Wildwood, Sea Isle, Ocean City, etc.) This year with the economy that's not happening. Oh well, it was nice while we were able to.

Nope, never saw Home for the Holidays. But the craziness of the plot you described reminds me a bit of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" which I thought was hilarious. I laugh to myself just thinking about it.

I hope you and your husband have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Brooke,

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with speech recognition programs. I did a little research for you at a few sites I have a good opinion of:

http://lifehacker.com/tag/speech-recognition/
http://ask.metafilter.com/100448/Speech-Recognition-and-Recording-Software
http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Voice-Recognition-Software

Of course, since I've never used such software my research is probably of limited use.

But for questions in general you might find lifehacker, ask.metafilter and wikihow to be of use to you (they often help me, at least). There's also a trick in Google that you might not know about... entering "speech recognition site:wikihow.com" means to find references to "speech recognition" that occur anywhere in wikihow.com. Of course, you can adapt this trick to do any kind of research limited to any specific domain.

Today I got some good news! I heard through my wife that my son worked out his problems at work, he is still employed and has his health insurance. My son said he wanted to just put it all behind him (which is probably wise) so she didn't get a lot of details, but I thank God for his answering our prayers (and thank you for joining me in this supplication).

Best wishes.

We have two children, my son and his sister (older by 2 years).

Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family!

Advice on being a parent? Wow, that's a big question. When I was in college, a long long time ago, the big question was "nature vs. nurture", meaning did kids grow up to become their adult selves more because of their inherent nature or how they were raised, or a combination. I think I believed it was more nurture, but looking back I think it's more nature. I think some kids are just naturally out-going or introspective, some kids have better verbal skills and others have better physical coordination, some kids feel things very deeply and brood on them, others things just roll off their back. And then you add to that the fact that we as parents have a nature which shaped our nurturing of our kids, and the whole thing gets incredibly complicated. Short answer: if I had it to do over again I would spend a lot more time with my kids finding out what makes them tick, as opposed to trying to help them learn things or showing them affection or giving them principles to live by. I know, those are very important things, but I think without a two way understanding between the kid and parent it's like pushing string...even if you have a good reason to do it, it just won't work. I am naturally a person who doesn't like to pry and respects other people's privacy, so that nature of mine worked against being a good parent (I think). Luckily my wife compensated for my short-comings, but I still regret the missed opportunities.

On a less heavy topic, do you happen to use a Mac computer? The only reason I ask is that I recently bought a Mac and downloaded demos of a couple software programs that are meant to help you organize your thoughts (such as for authors). I only needed one for a journal, but I thought I'd mention that they exist, in case you had a Mac and needed something to help with the book you're writing. Purely FYI.

God bless.

Hi Brooke,

You have a very good point. Music can be controversial, so I just included my "Christian Playlist" from iTunes at the end of this comment to you instead of a forum or blog entry. Please forgive the formatting.

I hope your book goes well and that the Holy Spirit uses it to reach and bless many others!

Speaking of books, if you by chance have ever read any C. S. Lewis you might be interested to know I am a big fan of his Christian theology books (Mere Christianity, Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, Miracles, etc.)

Last night I got some bad news. My son is having trouble at his part time job (he is a college student). He is 23 and so his health insurance depends on his job, and finding another job in this economy will be difficult. Also his student loans this semester are proving difficult (probably also due to the economy). Sooooo, if you happen to think of him in your prayers that would be great. But I certainly understand if you don't want to make that commitment, there are literally hundreds of millions of people in need of God's help. Luckily He is more than up to the challenge! (:->)

I hope you have a good weekend and Thanksgiving.

Hi Brooke,
Sorry for not replying to your comment earlier in the week.

Yes, I also enjoy listening to Christian music. I am fortunate that, as a computer programmer, my employer allows us to wear head phones and use our iPods whenever we are just writing programs (as opposed to meetings or answering questions) because they know that it cuts down on distractions and reduces errors. Of course it really has to be music, not sermons or audio books since that would itself be a distraction.

If you are interested in the kind of Christian music I like I can certainly send you a list (or maybe I should do a blog entry about it...I'm the newb here so all advice is accepted).

The weather here this past week was strange. They had said possibility of snow Tuesday and Thursday but the reality ended up being that the area near where I work (55 miles from my home) got hit with snow and ice. Because of the route I take in the morning I got within 5 miles of work in about 55 minutes, then the last 5 miles took 15 minutes. But I was fortunate because many co-workers who lived further West or South took two or three hours to get to work Friday.

No, my wife is not a member. She is my opposite (which is good in many ways). She does very little with a computer, mainly pays bills with Quicken, organizes her music with iTunes and plays Spider Solitaire.

FYI I live in the Southern part of New Jersey, so if you visited Northern New Jersey you saw a much different region (as you said, that is influenced by New York, we are influenced by Philadelphia and my area is more rural and agricultural...not like Kansas, but certainly not like Northern NJ either...granted NJ is the most densely populated US State, but you'd be surprised how beautiful some parts are).

I read your story before sending this comment. I had an extremely unusual and somewhat stressful youth but I can see that yours was beyond the pale until Jesus saved you. I am happy that with His help you have moved into a new and more joyful phase.

If we don't exchange comments before then I hope you and your husband have a blessed Thanksgiving.
