but I say: If you want to maintain lasting, stable relationships, they must be Christ-centered.

Christ must be at the center of your relationships because He provides a stable, fixed point of reference; otherwise, your relationships will be frail and fragile.

Every relationship is based or founded on something. For example, some relationships are based on the fact that both people work for the same company, attend the same school, or sharing a similar interest in a hobby or sport.

With all of relationships, once a common bond is no longer present, the relationship will tend to deteriorate. For example, once a child graduates from high school and moves off to college, he or she will probably lose most of the relationships formed with classmates, because school is no longer a common bond and thus there is nothing holding the relationship together.

However, if your relationships are formed around a common belief in Christ, then no matter what else happens in life, as long as that common bond is still present those relationships will last.

Thus, it is clear why 2 Corinthians 6:14 instructs believers not to marry unbelievers: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

I have married what appears to be an unbeleiver. He was raised in church and forced to go every Sunday, When we first got together 21 yrs ago, I was getting high and drinking with him. I know longer do that but he does. He also occasionally indulges in cocaine. I am standing in the gap for him. I have prayed for his deliverence and will continue until his habits change. I know the Lord will manifest in him through me. I know this is not what the Lord wants from me. I am trusting in the Lord for him to deliver my husbnd and adult children to renew their mind and hearts. I pray daily that the Lord will anoint their eyes and ears. I pray for wisdom, comfprt and guidance for all. Please keep us all in your prayers as the Lord strengths us all. Thank you.
Dawn, I know from experience how hard it is to deal with a unbelieving spouse, or one that is acting like one. God wants us to focus on our relationship with Him so we can reflect his love to those who are without Him and to those who are backsliders.

We need to love them regardless of if they are behaving or not. If we don't, then they will get the idea that God's love is conditional upon their behavior. God loves sinners as much as he loves saints and His desire is that all would receive His free gift. It is His kindness that leads people to repentance.

We as Christians have a wonderful opportunity to touch the lives of all those in our world of influence and we can never underestimate the power of the unfailing love of God working in and through our lives.

Bob, thank you so much. I am the only one in my household that is a God-fearing woman. The load gets heavy at times. I stan in the gap for my household. I pray without ceasing that they will come to Love the Lord as I do.
I was the only one in my family who became a Christian at age 15, 35 years ago today 2-16-75. I was apposed and felt like an outsider. Years later as I look back now every member of my immediate family has gotten saved except I am not sure about my youngest brother. My older sister and older brother just got saved a couple of years back and my sister passed away a last month at 52.

It made it all worth what I went through to know that my family came to know the Lord. They are watching you like a hawk to see if it is really true. Jesus was said to have endured the cross and even despising the shame of of it because He know what would come out of it. Who for the joy set before Him.

Sister may God pour great grace and great power into your life, may His joy become strength to you knowing the outcome will be salvation of your family members one by one as they recognize the Lord in your life.
Such true words, thank you for sharing this and I will be sharing it with others. love you, but Jesus loves you best.
