All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Porn is one of the highest addictions out there. I think it would be safe to say that it towers over all other addictions put together. I think it's because it's a matter of the thinking & in the mind. The other addictions has to put actions behind those thoughts for example: you think of drinking then you have to physically buy the alcohol to drink it & put that thought into action. The question I want to raise here is more specific. Jesus said that to look with lust is to commit adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:27, 28). Does this mean that a porn addiction can be equated with infidelity? And if it can, do you feel that could be viewed as legitimate grounds for divorce (Matthew 5:32)?

Interesting question. Lets start with the fact that the goal would first be to fix the problem and restore the relationship. If this is not possible then we have to look at Jesus' words. Do we take His statement literally? I do, He said it and thus He meant it. If He views the lustful thought as equal to the physical act, and He said He does, then the answer must be "yes" this is grounds for divorce since adultery is grounds for divorce.

I must repeat that the first goal is to fix and restore. Once that is exhausted, then the option of divorce is there.

Lord Bless,

I agree

YESssss, agreeing,,,totally...PRAISE and GLORRRRRY to GOD and HIS HOLY WORD and HIS PERFECT WAYS!!!!

I agree with your entire view.  LT

And Tammy it is a very interesting question.  And, to anyone who is in this, we lift up to Jesus.

Let's look at the very words of Jesus Christ.  Luke 16:

17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

And He also said: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew clarified Luke's statement with I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery

Will this sin send a person to hell? Why are so many people more sin conscious than righteous conscious?

Let's go to the very first sin of the human race:  The Sin of Eve.  She disobeyed the one and only "law"  that God gave.  (Adam sinned because he was enticed by Eve to sin.  When God came "looking"  for the two, what did they do?  They hid themselves from God...the very God who had created them.  They both "felt"  guilty even though they had never experienced guilt before!   This tells us that when God created mankind He put the sense of guilt into mankind along with other "feelings"  like LUST and pain and fear.  Of course we could say that the first sin CAUSED the feelings.  Why?  Because it is the first sin that made God put a curse upon the human race.  If we look at the "feelings" as being a result of the the curse, that would not be wrong.  Here's an interesting passage:

Rom 8: 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

I would like to correct one thing in your statement if you don't mind. The part where you made it seem that if you had thoughts other then with your "boyfriend/girlfriend", it would be wrong. You shouldn't be having those thoughts with a boyfriend or girlfriend either.

The Lord tells us how to control such thoughts.

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

I must admit they come to mine from time to time. Not like before but they still can be a temptation. Rare for a woman but I'm just being honest.

In a word...OK maybe two...Yes and Yes...I guess that"s three.

With the availability of porn on the Internet I wonder just how many people are committing adultery I have been told it is up around 80% of men. I am convinced that crafty devil loves the Internet.

I agree with LT. fixing the problem is best. But infidelity is infidelity. My wife agrees.

I guess the question I would ask is this. If a man is suppose to love his wife as Christ loves the church, then why would he look at other women.

Just my thought.

God is soooo coooool
