All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

The Bible says that the ticket to heaven is believing in Jesus Christ and accepting him as your Savior. In John, it also says that "anyone who doesn't obey the son will not experience eternal life..." Which one is it? I thought believing and accepting Christ was it....Sinning is considered not "obeying." Anyone who doesn't obey is cast under God's angry judgement...

Sin is judged, not you, if you are born again, Your sins are not even being imputed unto you. God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. 2Cor.5:19; Rom.4:8, blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

If God was imputing our sins against us, then no one could ever go to heaven, He said except our righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and the Pharisees we shall in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven. Mat.5:20, But our righteousness does exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, because our righteousness is of God in Christ. And not in our own ability to keep ourselves spotless.

Joe, I think your computer is working again and your picture is really great. You look like a professor. I think I will start calling you Professor Joe. I agree with you with your post.

Hey Roy, it is funny that you would call me a professor, LOL because you know me HA! One of the City inspectors here in Olathe used to call me professor as well, because he said I use to throw more _____ numbers at him than he could count when I was laying out water-ways and other elevations with my laser for him to inspect; as we did the other evening at your church.

It was good to talk with both you and Laura again. Blessings to you both.

Joe

Read what Jesus commanded. It will change your life, if you do it. Just trust him and do it.

It's not about a ticket, it's about a relationship.

Kayla,

Jesus is Saviour and Lord..  Saviour in that He has saved us when we confess Him and are born again..  Lord as in, He gets to say how we live.  Your Salvation is by Grace through faith..  Do as He commands, and it will change your life.  Let Him be Lord of your life.  His commands are not burdensome, they will set you free.

Blessings, Carla

I know, but In John, it says that "anyone who doesn't obey the son will not experience eternal life..." That seems like it's a definite answer to me. I thought believing in Christ was enough. To me, I'm taking that as not only do we need to believe, but we need to follow everything he says in the Bible or we'll go to hell.

I agree w Wicus & Carlas explainations; & the two greatest commandments 1. that we are to have only ONE GOD, & No other before HIM; to Love Him w all our heart, souls, body & minds, and 2. To Love our neighbor as ourselves, then all the rest of the commandments will be easier to follow, Jesus said unless we become as little children such as these, we cannot enter into the Kingdom. God is Love, we must become as pure LOVE as a child, LOVE is the Answer to all questions; it always has been. You cant get much simpler than that. When my  Mom passed away the Sunday after Easter Sunday 2011; I stayed w her for the last week; and heard her speaking clearly to Jesus at length that Wednesday night..... I know without a doubt that Jesus personally came to get my Mom. She had become the Mother I Always had wished for in my life; but never knew, she had nothing but PURE Love in her body, she had become as a child near then end of her life as we know it. She wasnt on any type of pain medications at all; and went peacefully in her sleep., and Yes; I do believe that we can go to heaven if we believe, and trust that Jesus died for our sins. My Moms in heaven, I dont doubt it for a minutes hesitation,....

Thank You Father for everything,... And Thank you for taking my MOM

Sorry; forgot that I also liked joes explaination too!~

Also my Mom had asked me to forgive her; and that she LOVED me; Mom was preparing for heaven, and you should have seen the entire staff at the hospital & at the Nursing home. Mom was loved & treated with such dignity & respect by everyone who came in contact with her; they all came in her room & cried the Friday morning; the week before she passed away; when she wouldnt wake up; even the D.O.N. cried. Mom was loved, and she had touched each of those peoples lives with Gods love; It was amazing to witness, and a blessing to be a part of. Mom was a precious child in every respect of the word.

Hi Kayla,

You are referring to John chapter 3.

The obedience that is being discussed here is faith in the Son of God.

for 'The sin of the world is unbelief'...

Jhn 16:9 The world's sin is that it refuses to believe in me.

NLT

This is not a license to sin..  but that is a whole new discussion.

Blessings, Carla

No, it's John 3:36. And it literally says in  the NLT version that "anyone who doesn't obey the son will not experience eternal life..."

Yes Kayla..  It has to be read in context...

John 3

1 There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”

3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again,[a] you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

4 “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.[b] 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.[c] 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You[d] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”

9 “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked.

10 Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? 11 I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. 12 But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man[e] has come down from heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.[f]

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.[g]

John the Baptist Exalts Jesus
22 Then Jesus and his disciples left Jerusalem and went into the Judean countryside. Jesus spent some time with them there, baptizing people.

23 At this time John the Baptist was baptizing at Aenon, near Salim, because there was plenty of water there; and people kept coming to him for baptism. 24 (This was before John was thrown into prison.) 25 A debate broke out between John’s disciples and a certain Jew[h] over ceremonial cleansing. 26 So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Rabbi, the man you met on the other side of the Jordan River, the one you identified as the Messiah, is also baptizing people. And everybody is going to him instead of coming to us.”

27 John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. 28 You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ 29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.[i] 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

This entire chapter is referring to having to be Born Again.    Which will result in a changed life.  The two go hand in hand.  Believing is more than an intellectual acceptance of who Jesus (even the demons know who Jesus is and they tremble )...

Jam 2:19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.

....it will result in a changed life.  Ask the Holy Spirit to show you and guide you.  This is not something you or anyone else can do in their own strength.  You must be born again..  read the entire chapter in it's context.

Blessings, Carla

Carla,

We still need to believe and obey.  The Holy Spirit will give us the Grace to believe and to obey during times of weakness when we turn to our Lord in prayer, we can't do it on our own strength, but we still need to believe and obey Jesus and all that He has taught us.  Right?

Sharon.
