Amen!~
To me love is very simple it is sacrifice. If you are "in" love sacrifice is easy and not painful...after all did not our Savior sacrifice himself for us is that not the ultimate sign/show of love?
I guess I have a little trouble understanding “Love” as being a sacrifice.
I can however see how through “Love” one will make sacrifices.
According to Psa.51, God does not want our sacrifice, but the sacrifice that He wants is a broken Spirit and a broken and a contrite heart.

I have heard, so-called “big preachers” say “well I have to love him, because the bible says I do”
No!! you love because that is your nature, and it is not sacrificial. But expressing your true nature. The nature of God; if indeed you have put on Christ. Gal.3:27
Joe
I guess I am with Joe's statement - "through "love" one will make sacrifices" but it does not necessarily mean that sacrifice will be easy and not painful as we can see from Jesus when He went to the cross (Luke 22:44, Luke 22:42). I also think of Abraham who was required to sacrifice his only son - that must of produced great pain and surely was not easy.

1Jn 3:16 By this we have known the love of God, because that One laid down His life for us; and on behalf of the brothers we ought to lay down our lives.

There is the old saying, "love hurts".

Victor M. Garcia Jr.
Love is like the truth, sometimes it prevails, sometimes it hurts.

Spanish proverb
Where there is love, there is pain.

BUT THE REWARD IS SWEET!

When we say “love” we don’t mean it “generically”
We love our neighbors differently than we love God, our spouses etc.
I love to eat, I love my car, I love to work etc.
All the things mentioned above are conditional, and are from the head.
I love God unconditionally. This will be from the heart.
And if you think otherwise, when any of the things previously mentioned: begin to break down or cause you undue head-aches, Try unconditional love.
Good luck.
Joe

after thought, if you love God conditionally, then maybe we need to get born again.
Hello Amanda,
You need to keep one thing in mind when conversing with me, and that is: you never have to ask forgiveness for what you think or what you say to or about me. It was never held against you from the beginning. You are and were forgiven. So there is no need of you asking. I have stated the way I believe in another post, about the way love responds, (ie I take no account of an evil done to me, I pay no attention to a suffered wrong....etc.
So set your heart at ease my dear; my love for the family of God stays the same regardless of circumstances.
Blessings to you today and for ever.
Joe

Grazer,

Is love to be relegated to being only an emotion, or is love something much deeper and greater than simply an emotion?
