All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I have been told many different things in regards to the holy ghost, being saved and speaking in tongues. Someone told me that if you were truly saved then you will speak in tongues. Another said that all people will not have the same spiritual gifts. If I have never spoken in tongues does that mean I do not have the holy spirit of God? If I have never spoken in tongues does that mean I am not truly saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord? Can someone help to clarify this confusion.Do I have the holy spirit even if I have never spoken in tongues. I have been saved and baptised but yet have never experienced the gift of speaking in tongues.

Susie, I should have also addressed the receiving of the Holy Spirit. I believe that once you have accepted Christ, you receive the Holy Spirit. There is nothing further that you need to do to receive Him. He was sent by Christ at His ascension to comfort, help and guide us in the way of all truth. He is the One Who keeps us grounded in Christ.
I hope this gives you comfort in your walk with the Lord, that He will never leave you or forsake you.
Blessings,
Rita
Man is made up of three parts, he is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. When you get saved (accept Jesus as your lord and savior) you awaken the spirit man who has been in you all the time since you were born. The holy Spirit only came to the disciples after Jesus was raised from the dead. In the book of Acts chapter 2 versus 1-12 show that eveyone that was gathered there spoke in tongues (different languages that people could understand), if we read further versus 14-21 it clearly states God would pour out His spirit, that people would prophesy, see visions, but most important verse 21 that every one who calls on the name of Jesus will be saved, it does not say you have to speak in tongues to be saved.
i went to a church once that spoke in tongues and they laid hands on you. it freaked me out. they were screaming out gibberish and touching me. i wanted to run. when i got home i looked in the bible for "tongues" and the verse that always comes to me is in Acts. they spoke in the "tongues" or the "languages" of the different people so they could hear the good news. speaking in tongue is not screaming gibberish like these people thought, but having the ability brought down on you from God to speak a foriegn language to profess the word of God to those in need.
my grandmother spoke in tongues all of the time, i have not. the bible says the body of the church will all have different gifts one the tongues, another interpitation, ect... in the body we all have different parts but the nose is not more important than the ear, we all are a part of a complete body i always feel the holy ghost within me so strong at times it buckles my knees and makes me cry its a comforter and lets me feel gods presence in times of tribulation. but i dont speak in tongues, its not my gift.
This has got me curious...a comment was made that tongues was in different languages so that people of all languages could hear the word.
This makes sense when it is a prophetic word, but what about in general prayer to God.
What language then as it is a prayer you put forth to God, would it not then be any language he wants, and would it necessarily be in a language anyone else in the room can decipher if it was for him you were speaking.
Would it not be more prudent to hide what you say from others, by way of a different language.
curious thought.
Once you ask Jesus into your heart, the Holy Spirit comes and lives within you. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy spirit and the word of God tells us to desire all gifts. It is not a requirement for salvation. Read - John 3:16 says " For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only son, that whomever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." What does this all mean, we should desire to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and have the gift of speaking in tongues, but if you have yet to receive this gift you should desire and ask God for them. If you have excepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and are living according the His word, you are saved even though you have not yet received these gifts.
Dear Susie,

The two things you are concerned about; (1) being saved and having the Holy Ghost, and (2) speaking in tongues and having the Holy Ghost are two separate events.

The Book of Acts clearly points out the latter; while Ephesians points out the former. More Scriptures could be referenced. I would encourage you to be a "Berean" and check out the Bible for yourself.

God Bless!

Everyone has their own gifts given to them by God. some speak in tongues, some preach well, some are good with animals, some are good in business, some are great mothers, some are perfect musicians. some r etc...... No, you don't ever have to speak in tongues. That is "so far" not your calling. Bet u r good at lots of things. Tell me about them. All you have to do to be saved is believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and that he died for you and is coming back for you one day. Confess your sins to Jesus and God in your prayers privately. Glorify God every minute of everyday. God loves us. That is what God lives for, to love us and to be loved back. Jesus lived to glorify his Father, God. As you have done that your life will become Godly and you will automatically do what God has planned for you.
Hi sis Susie,

I have been told many different things in regards to the holy ghost, being saved and speaking in tongues.
-when people tell you things always listen carefully with Jesus Christ and test all that people say

Someone told me that if you were truly saved then you will speak in tongues.
-I did not start off with tongues, i prefer not to speak in tongues, i do it privately cuz it freaks people out and I would rather have people not freaked not that it is freaky cuz its a gift and so i am thankful. if you really want the gift then I shall pray for you and we shall see if God grants it k

Another said that all people will not have
the same spiritual gifts.
-everyone is granted different gifts by God you can ask but all is up to God and in his timing will you receive

If I have never spoken in tongues does that mean I do not have the holy spirit of God?
-sis if I have one gift and you have one that I do not have does that mean i am not saved and likewise for you?

If I have never spoken in tongues does that mean I am not truly saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord?
- sis tis good you are blessed believe in Jesus Christ he will not leave you and God will not forsake you.

Can someone help to clarify this confusion.
- I hope I have

Do I have the holy spirit even if I have never spoken in tongues.
-lol sis no worries everyone has different gifts k some may have many some may have less but that doesn't mean you are not loved
I have been saved and baptised but yet have never experienced the gift of speaking in tongues.
-sis try not to worry about such things you are gifted and you are blessed, go now in love and in peace to live and serve the Lord.

ask people who boast of their gifts this k "why are you boasting?"

be kind when asking though and do all things for the love of God and because of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for all of us so that we can live happily.

lots of love in Christ

The following video is very helpful in understanding the gifts of tongues, prophecy and knowledge and why they ceased.

I do not believe I am able to judge anyone in any way, spiritual commitment or their salvation is not up to me. The speaking in tongues seems to be something that lot's of people have a wide range of feelings about and everyone is right for themselves if they are right with God and Jesus. I have never spoken in tongues and have felt a wide range of feelings when I have been with people who do speak in tongues. I do think that speaking in tongues is a gift to be understood not sounds to be spoken without spreading the word of our Lord to those who have a language barrier. If I were to speak the truth of our Lord and everyone understood the love in my heart and my intentions to be without malice, full of a hope to bring comfort then what ever I said would be a form of speaking in tongues. When I am with others that speak in tongues I may not understand what the message is and may need help to bring the focus of what was said into a clear image of God's word for me but I can not be the judge of the intentions of the speaker. The message may be for someone else or even for the speaker. I have been with people speaking English and not been able understand what they are saying or why they are saying it. If I accept Jesus and make love my goal for living with others I will live in peace within myself till I am gone. We all have our own journey and we all have gifts that have been given to us from God. I need to find my gift and develop that gift and use that gift to help others see that Jesus is the way the truth and the light. Be it my actions my words my deeds all offered to God with a sincere request for forgiveness morning noon and night. Then whatever happens will be in God's hands and I trust in the Lord with all my heart.
God Bless Us,
Praise God William and thank you for your enlightenment. Your absolutely right. To love God and show others the way. To be a Light in this dark place. I was concerned about me speaking or rather Not speaking in tongues but when and if God wants that gift for me He will surly give it at the time it calls for it. Otherwise, I am going to continue on my journey and do my best to stay on the path of Rightiousness for His name sake. God bless each and everyone of you. Thank you for you many many responses.
