What is your opinion on legalizing marijuana? Is it a sin or not? Is it good for some with ailments? Is it dangerous?

I would like to add these thoughts.

13 Therefore, let us no longer criticize one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in your brother’s way. 14 (I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is • unclean in itself. Still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to that one it is unclean.) 15 For if your brother is hurt by what you eat, you are no longer • walking according to love. Do not destroy that one Christ died for by what you eat. 16 Therefore, do not let your good be slandered, 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever serves Christ in this way is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then, we must pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another. 20 Do not tear down God’s work because of food. Everything is • clean , but it is wrong for a man to cause stumbling by what he eats. 21 It is a noble thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother stumble. 22 Do you have a conviction? Keep it to yourself before God. The man who does not condemn himself by what he approves is blessed. 23 But whoever doubts stands condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from a conviction, and everything that is not from a conviction is sin.  Rom 14:13-23

I am NOT saying one should or should not.  I willing admit I have not read all of the post.  Some of what I have read seems to be, based on the experienced they have had with pot.  Just because a person may smoke pot, does not mean they smoke until they are completely stoned.

I have seen those who drink a glass or two; a beer or two; consume much more when, the pressure from life floods over them.  I have seen these people drink more when having a "good time" with friends and family.

A long time ago, I heard this quote.  "Whatever you turn to in times of trouble, that is your god/GOD!"

I have done both, drink and smoke in my past.  Past is the key word.  Because of my meds., I have limitations.  However, what I do or not do is based on, my relationship with God.  If this leads any to think they know what I do or not do, that would be between them and God.

I do not know if any have shared about those in constant pain; those with cancer; those with epilepsy; or other conditions that are helped by this weed.

I do ask that no one judge me, by any of these words.  Not for my benefit, but for yours.

 Hi Chris,

I suffer from chronic pain and have used marijuana to ease some of my suffering. I admit when I was younger I abused both alcohol and marijuana but quit everything when I met my wife and started a family. I fought the pain for almost 10 years before I sought treatment from a pain clinic. Now I have to take strong pain medicine just to barely function and that was after I tried everything else the Dr.'s suggested. I didn't want to be on pain meds and still don't but have no choice at this point in life.

The reason I used marijuana when I was younger and why I use it now are completely different. For one thing I wasn't a Christian then but have since found Jesus. I don't use it very often but I can tell you I would much rather use marijuana for my pain than the strong opiate pain medications prescribed. Illinois recently passed a law legalizing marijuana for medical use but with VERY STRICT rules. I'm not even sure if I will apply for a card to use it or not. At this point in my life I don't ask God anymore why I have been afflicted with all these health problems I just wake up and thank him for another day. I hope one day I won't need any pain meds or marijuana. I pray for Gods will in my life and ask Him to guide me so I have faith he will let me know whether or not I should be using it even if it's legal.

Hello my Brother

Dale I know constant/chronic pain.  I have a failed back fusion, both knees; I could go on and on.  I have been on heavy narcotics for going on 13 yrs.  I also have a past, did all but pop a vein.  Only alive by The Grace of God, and my Mom's constant Prayer.

Dale this statement I do know to be true, "when I was younger and why I use it now are completely different."  Not every person understand what you are saying.  I do not get a "buzz" from the meds. I take.  Just some relief at times.  I do not live in a state that it is legal.  I have heard they have figured out, what type of "Mary Jane"  {showing my age} to target certain parts of the body and head.  When I did try some smoke I did get high, yet still hurt, it is a DRAG to be stoned and still hurt.  I do not mean unable to function just felt the effects.

I get where you are coming from in the last part of what you have shared.  I have learned more about The Grace of God and not been healed.  I believe in the unseen; I require no evidence.  I just Believe.

Grace and Peace to everyone here from our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.

Chris, the quote you wrote - Whatever you turn to in times of trouble, that is your god/God................... is from

Oswald Chambers, a great lover of the Lord.........and a true statement.

Tammy.....praying for you and yours.

Dale A. Hurst.... thanks for sharing. I've added you and yours to my prayer list......and I'm originally from Illinois. Here in Arizona, medical marijuana was passed a while back. I think the whole country will have it before too long.

Sad.....................

My Dear Brother

I thank you sharing Oswald Chambers name.  We do know all true Wisdom comes from God, yet those He uses deserve to be known.

As you can read I see both sides, and cannot judge either.

Never think I will look away from you.  He uses you and you share His Wisdom to so very many people.

Chris

Well, I believe marijuana is more trouble than it is worth even for medical marijuana, but I actually have nothing against legalizing it. I don't consider it my right to decide what natural plants other people decide to consume, whether it be for recreation or medical purposes... but I can understand that many would not want to share the same space with pot smokers and feel like they need to protect their families from second hand smoke.

I think it should be legal,It's much safer than alcohol and is a natural cure for many medical problems...it's not a sin unless you abuse it.It was put on this earth for our use.

So, Bruce, in your opinion, it's the less of 2 evils so it should be legal. Legalizing marijuana opens the doors to so many more avenues for our kids to get into trouble.

As far as being safe, when I smoked it, I was whack. But, I also couldn't move so I guess I was safe. I couldn't hurt anyone or drive so yea, that was safe so I agree with your point.

The point of it being put on this earth for our use: God also put ivy on the earth. Adam sinned, the ivy became poisonous. Since God put it there, should we roll in a bundle of poison ivy? Do you really believe it is OK to God for you to grow a weed, dry it out, put it in a wrap of paper & suck it in your lungs to get high? Wonder who even came up with this process? Oh, look at that plant. I think I'll set fire to it & suck it in my body.

Now, as far as medical use, if you are prescribed it, I don't a problem with it. I'm sure there is some pain that definitely needs it.

As far as it not being a sin if you don't abuse it: Let's look at this from a different angle: You could shoot up heroine just as long as you don't take in too much. Should we legalize crack, cocaine, meth? I mean, let's admit it, pot is used to get HIGH. That's it's sole purpose. There are few & far between that use it just for pain & even less that are prescribed it.

Daniel chose ahead of time not to compromise. In my opinion, this is a compromise.

I would also like to say that this has brought about the rise of synthetic marijuana which has killed many people & harmed many more.

This explains a LOT

I tried pot on two occasions in high school. It left me with a strange feeling similar to a buzz one gets from drinking. There are legal medications that do the same. Setting aside the legality (and yes based on experience it does altar your reaction time just as alcohol can but too many people want to sugar coat reality)...

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

One cannot have a sober mind hazed by drugs or alcohol.

1 Corinthians 10:23 I have the right to do anything," you say--but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"--but not everything is constructive.

I guess one truly interested in what God would have you do needs to ask if pot is beneficial or constructive. Unless in severe physical pain (not pain manufactured in one's mind), I would bet God is heartbroken at a world who turns to pleasure and feel good philosophy over Him.

THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA

The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety.

But the problem does not end there. According to scientific studies, the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, remains in the body for weeks or longer.

Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke. One major research study reported that a single cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another. Long-time joint smokers often suffer from bronchitis, an inflammation of the respiratory tract.

The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. This is backed up by earlier research on the long-term effects of marijuana, which indicate changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term abuse of other major drugs. And a number of studies have shown a connection between continued marijuana use and psychosis.

Marijuana changes the structure of sperm cells, deforming them. Thus even small amounts of marijuana can cause temporary sterility in men. Marijuana use can upset a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Studies show that the mental functions of people who have smoked a lot of marijuana tend to be diminished. The THC in cannabis disrupts nerve cells in the brain affecting memory.

Cannabis is one of the few drugs which causes abnormal cell division which leads to severe hereditary defects. A pregnant woman who regularly smokes marijuana or hashish may give birth prematurely to an undersized, underweight baby. Over the last ten years, many children of marijuana users have been born with reduced initiative and lessened abilities to concentrate and pursue life goals. Studies also suggest that prenatal (before birth) use of the drug may result in birth defects, mental abnormalities and increased risk of leukemia1 in children.
