All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

How do you see these verses in 1 Peter?   Do you see the power in the "Born Again" experience?   Does this show we are freed,  and we must not fall back into the "old self?"  And, when we consider our actions, are we more empowered as we follow, "  15 But as the One Who called you is Holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; ?"

14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. 15 But as the One Who called you is Holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am Holy. 1Peter 1:14-16

Hello my brother,

No, no way. If you struggle with your walk with the Lord than maybe you are not his. Of course i don't struggle with my walk, hahaha Just Kidding you all.

I have never met a Christian who has not at one point or another struggle. I struggle with my walk when I don't do what God calls me to do. I do love him, but my earthly tent, this flesh is rebellious and puts up a good fight. My God is greater, so by His Grace is not a constant struggle, but I do struggle with it. On top of that it is not only our flesh which we battle, but -

Ephesians 6

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Living worthy of our calling demands a daily fight against the flesh, the wicked system of the world and the powers of darkness. :) But greater is He that is in us.

Love and blessings to you

Thank you my Brother

I do appreciate and completely agree with what you have shared.  I would like to add these verses, as I ponder, "Living Hope,"  "Protected by God," "Praise, Glory and Honor to The Lord," and more.  Direct me with His Confidence, and Holy Spirit with Understanding and Knowledge, you get where I am going.

3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 5 You are being Protected by God’s Power through faith for a Salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 You rejoice in this,t though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials 7 so that the genuineness of your faith — more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire — may result in Praise, Glory, and Honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 You love Him, though you have not seen Him. And though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him and rejoicead with inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls 1 Peter 1:3-9

Bless you as well and Blessing in the New Year.

Hi Chris, God bless you!

It's a lot to live up to. It's a struggle. I heard this song that goes..."I wish I were the man I know to be...Grace has made me all that I am." The fellow that sings the song talks about messing up and going back to God and saying "I'm sorry." IMO he's a strong Christian. He knows what he should be from what it says in the Bible, but he has not arrived.

Love,

Mary

Hello my Sister, so Blessed to share with you.

What you speak of sounds, like my life story.  "There by The Grace of God go I..."  Or however that goes.  He knows our hearts.  We cannot fool Him or try and spin a web, He Knows the skinny of our life and our hearts. When I ponder that, I would not have it any other way.

Love to you Mary

Chris

Chris,

Yes, I struggle.  There are times when I forget who I am 'In Christ'.  There are also times that I believe the lies of the enemy and am tempted to fall into caring what people think more than what God thinks, or who He says I am.  We need Christian fellowship continually, as well as personal time with the Lord to be reminded of who we are.  As we spend time with the Lord we will still struggle, but perhaps we will be reminded more quickly of who we are and WHOS we are.

Just this morning I had to call my Mom for prayer because I was believing the lies of the enemy and I was beginning to get hurt, distracted and discouraged by an in-law get together over Christmas...  This was healed with a good heart to heart talk with someone I love and trust, and someone I know loves me, and prayer.  I needed to be reminded of who I am In Christ.  God showed me something...  He showed me that if I am to move forward with something He has put on my heart to do,  I am going to have to develop a thick skin, and I am going to have to stop caring what people think and say.  This has been an ongoing lesson for me.  So yes, I struggle.  Doesn't everyone?  We must move forward to the place of Victory and learn through that struggle....sometimes we will need many reminders.

Blessings, Carla

My heart goes out to you with relatives, in this time I think we all have to weigh our words and actions with family and friends.  Yet, with Family in The Lord we still have to do the same thing.   However, with Prayer guided by Love Truth covers us and opens our eyes to The Truth.

Part of what I believe I am attempting to share is, we all struggle one reason is, we are being refined as gold.  Many times this is not easy or comfortable, well Most times it is not comfortable.  Yet, we do have The Hope that Jesus, The Father, and Spirit have provided and shone us.  We have growing pain just as we do as humans.  Yet, as we Trust in Him our growth is a Beautiful Transformation.  Because, we are becoming more like Him.  My Dear Sister, you have Always shone Love to me and others, that shows His Love in you.  "In-laws" can be like "stone against stone," after however we both become smooth.   As He Desires us to be free from things that can attach to rough edges.

Carla your smile tells others of His Love

Eric

When we are told to "be holy," we are to be obedient.  Now you and both agree we cannot be holy on our own.  Still are told again and again "... to be holy because He is Holy."  So this I believe is the Key, as He is in us we are in Him.  We are Holy Through and with Him; He make a Way where there is no way.  As we gauge our actions according to "... be holy in all your conduct."  This does help us to know right from wrong.  God Knows our hearts, He knows what we strive for; how we work towards obedience to His Word.

My Brother thank you for sharing what you had heard.  Let it be so that we all embrace the growth.  That we seek The Meat of The Word.  For those who are beginning, seek The Milk of The Word.  I also believe we all have times when we need, some Milk to help us with the Meat of The Word.

And since Abraham and the other patriarchs were holy, their descendants will also be holy--just as the entire batch of dough is holy because the portion given as an offering is holy. For if the roots of the tree are holy, the branches will be, too. Rom 11:16

14 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Heb 12:14-15

19 Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy. Rom 6:19    ...slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification. Rom 6:19

Eric these are but a few, we are to be holy; sealed; righteous; consecrated; set apart, so many ways to define holy in us.  God is HOLY.  He makes us holy, not full of pride, for all we have from God are Gifts.  We need not split hairs.  We are citizens of Heaven, whether we are their or not.  To strive in obedience to be holy, can only happen In Him.

In His Love, your Brother

Chris

If we have met Christ and have become His we will struggle in our walk with Him in this life, because we recognize the holiness of God and that, though we are positionally holy, we are not yet perfected in the flesh and thus we recognize how far from walking in true holiness we are in our day to day lives. This should not diminish our desire to be holy and to seek after righteousness, but the problem here comes when we try to accomplish this through our personal efforts (alone). Many have proclaimed that they will try harder, and were sincere, only to fail again.

We are told to take up our cross, but we cannot carry it alone. We are told to die to self daily, but the goal here is so that Christ can live in us and through us. The Christian life is a joint venture, in that God allows us to make decisions, but we will only walk in alignment with Him when we have surrendered to Him and walk in step with the Spirit. This concept of living the Christian life is well stated where Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy. The yoke He speaks of is a two oxen yoke. One space for us and one for Him ... without Him the cart is not going to move much, without Him working in our lives we will not accomplish much in regards to walking in holiness.

Even in the verse you posted above, it is impossible for man to "be holy" apart from the work of God in us and through us. Our salvation is His to finish and ours to embrace.

To grow up we have to give up ... give up control so that we can truly say "Not my will be done, but Your will be done."

I meant no arrogance or pride, in thinking we can anythings without God.  In my first reply in                             1 Pet 1:7 ...;may result in Praise, Glory, and Honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.   For if the roots of the tree are holy, the branches will be, too.... Rom 11:16  So we see holy does not come from us.  In Heb 12:15  15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the Grace of God.  Then in Rom 6:19  19 Because of the weakness of your human nature...  I would fail at everything if not for His Grace.  The Holy Spirit gives us Knowledge, Understanding, and so much more.  We are equipped through God to gain Victory.  Since God knows; weighs; and considers our heart, does He not see our attempts to strive to be holy?

4 Each of you must know how to control his own body in a holy and honorable manner, 5 not with passion and lust like the gentiles who do not know God. 6 Furthermore, you must never take advantage of or exploit a brother in this regard, because the Lord avenges all these things, just as we already told you and warned you. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to be holy. 8 Therefore, whoever rejects this instruction is not rejecting human authority but God, who gives you His Holy Spirit. 1 Thes 4:4-7  I would never attempt a day without The Lord, much less to be holy without Him, I guess I just took that granted

I know we are all at different places.  Many of us have failed again and again, I more than most.  I just am a little confused at your thinking I would seperate myself from His Power.

Chris,

I was only speaking to the topic generally and acknowledging that we all struggle and that there are two basic paths people can, and do, follow. We can attempt to do it on our own, struggling to do more in our own strength, or we can rest in Him, surrendering to Him daily seeking His will and not ours. I was not meaning to direct my comments at you personally ... sorry if you took them that way.

All is well, I understand you point.  And trust you see mine.

Lord Bless you Brother

Chris

Eric,

No intrusion at all. I said both of what you are pointing out above in the following:

We are told to take up our cross, but we cannot carry it alone. We are told to die to self daily, but the goal here is so that Christ can live in us and through us. The Christian life is a joint venture, in that God allows us to make decisions, but we will only walk in alignment with Him when we have surrendered to Him and walk in step with the Spirit

The effort without being in alignment with God, surrendered to His will and empowered by the Holy Spirit is futile at worst and a major struggle to get by at best.
