All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Can someone please tell me what was it that God was so angry about when King David conducted the census of the Jews? David's decision to conduct the census invoked the wrath of God and led to David and Israel being punished.

I have not been able to find/understand just where it was that God told David not to have the census and why having the census was so wrong.

Did God move David to conduct the census (2 Samuel: 24) or was it Satan (1Chronicles : 21)?

If it was God why would He then be so angry at King David for doing something that He had moved him to do?

I am confused, as you can probably tell.

Anyone????

I apologise if my question is too stupid or naive to answer.

I'm not real sure about where to find it but I believe God put that into the law that the Israelites weren't to be numbered (when He gave the law in the first books of the Bible.) The law was what governed Israel after it was given. I suggest that while David was king, he thought that he could do whatever he wanted to do, because he WAS king, regardless of what the law said. That was a HUGE presumption on David's part.

Hope this helps.

Blessings,

Rita

Thank you Rita and Raul for taking the time to reply to my question. I really appreciate your efforts to answer. Both your responses have helped clear the issue a little for me.

God bless you both.

Bev,

Thank you for taking the time to do some research as a way to give me an answer to my question. I knew I could rely on you. I now have a much clearer understanding of the circumstances and the reasoning behind why David did what he did and why God was so angry. Probably disappointed more than anything (my opinion only of course).

God allowing satan to incite David the way he did reminds me of how God allowed Satan to test Job the way he did.

Love you Bev.

God bless

Rob

Also, David was required to make his own copy of the Bible (Torah) in order to be King (See Deuteronomy 17) and so he knew this was a command of God.

But, I think also that David was being prideful and was counting the census to see what "he" had dominion over and what "he" (David) could do. God wants us to take account of what HE promises and what HE can do. When we get caught in the trap of seeing only our personal resources and only counting them, we miss what God is wanting to do and we miss the fact that God wants us to do the impossible; we can only do the impossible when we rely on Him and His resources. When we walk in the power of an almighty God.
