Walking in the Spirit - The Deeper Spirit Filled Life

A group concerned with ...

... seeking to understand what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

... sharing our experiences of being filled.

... understanding operating in the Holy Spirit and spiritual Gifts.

... giving opportunity for individuals to ask about this important topic of walking in the Spirit.

Our goal is to edify and build up the body of Christ. We will not be discussing the "Evidence Doctrine." A dissucion on this doctrine tends to divide rather than build up.

I believe that passage means it was an angel. The Word specifies when it's the Holy Spirit & when it's an angel.

Amanda,

Angels are servants of the most High God. They are created beings just as we are created. They are very powerful. Sometimes they can appear in different forms as probably was the case with the angel giving Philip instruction. It is doubtful that the angel went with Philip after giving him this message but at the right moment, the Spirit told Philip to approach the chariot and minister God's grace to the eunuch. Through this incident the Gospel message was carried into Ethiopia and perhaps beyond. The Gospel spread rapidly in the beginning stages of the church and I imagine that there were many angels involved. When John encountered an angel (one of many that he witnessed), he fell to worship him. The angel quickly told John to get up and to only worship God. He also told John that he was his fellow servant to those who hold to the testimony of Jesus. He then told John that the testimony of Jesus was the spirit of prophecy, an example of the gift God gives to enable us to witness of the glory of our Savior.

I trust you see that we made a connection.  As we all discover when we are lead by the Spirit, many things, not all but, more than most think are connected.  One shares a verse that another take as confirmation.  Or, others are lead down a train of thought, that we help someone else see the Truth about an issue they might of been struggling with.  We are the Body and we work together in ways, that we may not even know.

Elaine if it was an angel or just a message, all things work through God.  He has the Plan, and instructs by the best method to bring that Plan to be.

When I looked deeper into this, the correct meaning is messenger.   So he received a message.  Maybe a vision or any number of ways.  The Holy Spirit would still have been a part of it, I think.

But, that story is one of the coolest.  That chariot could have been traveling if I remember right 26 mph.  So Philip would of had to be running we do not know how fast.  But, he also was able to hear this man read, over the noise of the chariot.  I would of imagined that alone got some attention. Then to be transported (long before star trek).  I believe we see these things not so much so we try to do them.  Yet, to allow our minds and Faith to be open to what  the Spirit may lead us to do.  I have seen some make the mistake of wanting to do these things.  We should remember all things are possible in God.  But, many want to do these things out of pride.  No matter how a person is used, or the Gifts they may operate in, all of these things we do must Glorify Jesus, follow God's plan as we are used to help others.  Never to feed our pride or to bring praise to us.

Good question Amanda thank you for sharing.

Thank you all for your Prayers. Arnette and I are taking Mom and Dad to St. Louis for the reception of my Nephew who was married in Jamaica. We also are going to see Theresa. So Thank you all for your Prayers.  We will leave in the morning and not be back until Monday.

Welcome Brother and Amen the surfisgood.  I went from Catholicism to Spirit Filled.  I did not get much negative thinking about the Spirit until years later.  I started this group with much curiosity of how somethings would go.  On how the Spirit would operate in such a forum.  I operated in the Gifts for years before I even knew much of the hesitation of others.  Since then however, I have heard my share.  Both sides of the coin.  This has always been confusing for me.  For me something so simple and Powerful, and to hear and see both sides say horrible things about each group.

As Roy has shared leaving a Church needs to be weighed.  I have always tried to go by how I am being fed.  For me the Spirit Filled side apart of who God made me.  Again, to Roy, " questionable doctrine that can come out of a church controlled by words of prophecy rather than the Word of God." This is a sad to see, and even more sad to know it goes on so much.  I have no idea how many Words of Prophesy I have given.  To His Glory and Honor, the things I shared were always based on the Word, and or have come to pass.  To be clear that only means I am a mouth piece, a vessel made of clay like everybody else.  Yet, when I have heard a Word that was wrong and saw people build a belief around what some cat spoke, that is sad and much damage is done even death is linked to such things.  That is why we must be anchored to the Word of God.  And, when a person shares a word, it must be weighed with the Word of God.  Also, we can at times see how the one who spoke, acts and behaves.  What I mean is, because they spoke they must be treated "special."  This is wrong.  Yet, we are all human and just because a person is used, does not mean they are perfect, or can fish by walking out to the middle of the lake.  I will always lean the Spirit Filled way, but they must offer more than a few who speak words that Must be followed, and barely if any connected to the Word of God.

Lord Willing we will be able to share and have discussions on as many of these topics.  The Spirit speaks from what the Father has said.  The Spirit confirms the Words of Jesus.  The Power of God flows through the Spirit and through those it chooses.  We are only vessels made of clay, wanting to fulfill the Will of God.  I know the feeling of a balloon that floats in the air.  The string attached is important.  They work together each dependent on the other.  Trust this helps some.

Thats cool that you your Grandad  was healed that way. Yes i want things to be balanced as well. I want the word of God but i want to be close to him too. The church i go to say that we are saved already that God is all around us i believe this. The other church we were all roaring singing it felt really good i could shout out Jesus i love you something i previously i taught i would have to go alone to the top of a mountain to to.

I also am wary i want to be sure these gifts are of the holy spirit and not demonic. I suppose there is no harm with trial and error until we find comfort in one church or in a bit of a few different churches or gatherings.

Surfsgood,

It sounds as if you have your feet well planted on solid footing. I personally do not agree with the teaching that the gifts went out the door when the apostles died. I do struggle with some teachings in the charismatic church as well. I pray that you are finding a really good one. Balanced teaching is important.

I will say that my grandfather was healed miraculously and instantly of incurable cancer. I know that doesn't happen often but it does happen. It came after we laid our hands on him and prayed.

I know that can happen. The danger comes when we teach that everyone should be healed in that way. God can heal and He does. He doesn't always do it exactly the same way. We have to put our faith and trust in God and not in certain methods or teachings. I have heard (just recently heard) men say that if you don't get healed, it is because you are doing something wrong or that you don't have enough faith, etc. Those are bad teachings and should be avoided. I have also heard some say(just recently again) that if you didn't get healed it was because the man praying for you did not have enough faith. Usually these are teachers or prophets just traveling through and the rest of the people are left to pick up the pieces. I have seen great damage from teachings of that sort.

Anyway, I can tell you are getting your feet solidly planted in the Lord and not in man. Blessings.

Thanks yes its a bible believing church but im not seeing the fruits in some people yes but others no. I have found some good local Christians around my own age also so im finding it good to hang out with them and learn from them. I have been testing the waters with my own church I was going to leave sooner but i siad i would wait and im coming to the conclusion that they are a bit narrow minded. That being said i will still use caution i am praying to Jesus that i wont be deceived and that i go on the correct path. I am still reading the bible almost everyday and trying to be Christ like. Yes my church is warning me that its unbiblical that all those things were done away with a when the apostles all died or when the bible was finished because we had the bible then and no longer needed the miracles just faith.

I see people in the healing church that have been healed of depression people that were suicidal the people who believe in the gifts of the holy spirit.

The first church I went to feel too controlling I dont like that. Being made to have bible study in front of a cafe i do not feel comfortable with that. They are getting more controlling as time goes on. I was brianwashed by a sales company before i wont be brain washed by some church.
