All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

My thoughts...

Our own spirit becomes alive when we accept Christ as our Savior. I am curious as to the part our spirit plays in our *born again* life.

To explain what I am referring to 1 Peter 3:18 1 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

I believe Peter refers to our spirit within in us. I know that we must worship *is spirit and in truth*.

I would ask the thoughts from Chris and the rest of the group for my edification.

Blessings.....

Rita that is a perplexing question that seems to go on and on. For me I believe our spirit plays a vital role as Our Heavenly Father wants a relationship not just a bunch of puppets.  He in the creation acount gave us a direction with feel will and authority. This I do not believe He ever takes back. In the book of Revelation in the new heaven and new earth is the description of the leaders coming to take of the tree of life to heal the nations. This account to me says we will still have feel will and may still make the occassional error.  Yet we will be so focused on our Lord we will guided out of these errors instantly. Probably not the best description yet gives the drift of my belief.

I firmly believe we will always be learning always be growing. Living in the spirit makes that a great and wonderous adventure. As we always see The Lord leading the WAY.

Rom 7:4-6 4..this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the One who was raised from the dead.... 6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
Rom 8:2,4 2 And because you belong to Him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
Rom 8:9-11 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to Him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
In verse 10 we are given life, because we are made right with God. In verse 11 “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you."  So the real question is I think, at what point do you yield to Holy Spirit?  When do you begin to Live a life lead by the Spirit?

Rita

I guess more to your point, 1Cor 15:22 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.  As also in Col 2:13; Eph 2:5  Since our bodies are already alive.  These must point to our spirits, if at this point they are awakened.  Or, given Power over our flesh.  I trust these are what yo are asking.

Friend, actually if you look at some other translations http://bible.cc/1_peter/3-18.htm it says "by the Spirit". Christ was resurrected by the Holy Spirit. Hopefully, that clears up any confusion.

Feet.....

I agree with translations being different, and with that, the implications of what is meant tend to change...some edifying and some confusing. I was thinking yesterday that I would love to be able to understand the Bible written in the original languages, but...unfortunately...I don't have that knowledge.

"I am curious as to the part our spirit plays in our *born again* life."  I have only known Born Again and Spirit Filled, as a one then the other action.  I accepted Jesus as my Lord, than hands were laid on me to be Spirit Filled.  So as I look at this question, I can only answer it by saying, our spirit plays a huge role in our life.  Knowing only Spirit Filled, I know Holy Spirit and my spirit work together.  My spirit is lead by Holy Ghost, as I feed my spirit the Word, and Pray in the Spirit, I am Blessed in many ways to see my spirit stronger than my flesh.  I sadly have times when it is the other way around. But, I can see from those times where I need to grow, and yield more to God.  I am a work in progress.  Far from perfect, yet Blessed with Grace.

I hope some of what I have shared here answered your questions.

Lord Bless and Keep You

Good question Sister Rita,

Here are some thoughts:

The Holy Spirit comes along side our lives(parakletos)....convicts us of sin....we are born again (John 3:3).....then I believe the Holy Spirit moves into our bodies, and sets up the temple within (1 Cor. 6:19).... at which point - "But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him."(1 Cor. 6:17).

That's probably abbreviating the process a little too much....but I think that's the order.

As far as 1 Peter 3:18......... After Jesus died a mortal death on the cross, and was buried...... The Holy Spirit made Him "alive in the spirit"....because we see that He went to the place of the dead and preached to them, who were all spirits.(verse 19)..........and that leads into another whole story......

Grace and Peace.

Satan stole my post but I will ask the Holy Spirit to refresh it in my mind so I can relay it to you.

Blessings....

I believe that when we understand who we are the better we will understand Who God is. God tells us we are made in His Image. He is Triune...Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Therefore, I believe we are triune...body, soul, spirit.

Eve, by rejecting God, accepted for us, a spirit that would be led by Satan(and his minions.) When a person accepts Christ we are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, Who communicate with our spirit, thus allowing us to worship *in spirit and in truth*.

Yesterday, I picked my study of the *spirit* and the occasions of that word throughout the Bible. This includes Holy Spirit and our own spirit. There are over 300 occasions of that word alone, and many more verses. I would like to see us take these different occasions and study them.

As a start

1 Kings 22:20-23 (ESV)
20 and the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said one thing, and another said another.
21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, saying, 'I will entice him.'
22 And the LORD said to him, 'By what means?' And he said, 'I will go out, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do so.'
23 Now therefore behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; the LORD has declared disaster for you."

In these verses, God didn't demand that this lying spirit indwell Ahab....He asked for volunteers. This *lying spirit* will succeed, as God told him, because God sees from beginning to end. He knows Ahab's end. Did God cause this? No....because this is the position Satan gave him when he fell. To lie to people and make them believe the lie. There are so many other pieces of information we can glean from these few verses.

What caused Ahab to believe this *lying spirit*? He (Ahab) chose to believe it. How does this apply to people of today? How does it apply to both the saved and the unsaved?

This is an example of the things that we need to understand about evil spirits. If we look into these various occasions, including the occasions that mentions the Holy Spirit, we will see the task that the Holy Spirit has.

Blessings to you as you study God's Word.....

In these verses we must understand and consider them for what they are, a Warning to the King.  I do not believe God would need a volunteer to be a lying spirit.  God showed Micaiah this vision, I think it can be considered a parable, not so much as what happened.  If, Ahab had believed Micaiah and not the 400 who were tickling the ear of the king, who knows what would have taken place.  Ahab believed what he wanted to believe.  Ahab was wicked and did many things against God.

What made him believe lies?  His own wickedness.  Of Micaiah he said,"The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you he wouldn't prophesy anything good about me, only evil?"  He could not see the warning, because he chose not to see the Truth.

Chris,

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood what I said.

1. God does no evil to mankind, not even Ahab.

2. Ahab made his own choice to believe the lie.

3. Because he believed the lie, he failed.

4. Question: How are people defeated today because of believing *the lie*?

Blessings...

I believe I understood what you have said.  Do you think the events in 1Kings 22:20-23 happened?  Or, this was what Micaiah was shown, so he would be able to tell Ahab in a way he would understand?

In 2Chronicles 18:5-7  We read the same story.  But, I have a question about this.

So the king of Israel summoned the prophets, 400 of them, and asked them, “Should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should I hold back?”  They all replied, “Yes, go right ahead! God will give the king victory.”  6 But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there not also a prophet of the LORD here? We should ask him the same question.”  The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat, “There is one more man who could consult the LORD for us, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but trouble for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.

With these 400 prophets considered, why did Jehoshaphat ask for a prophet of the LORD ?

Rita I believe we are in agreement over all.  I am just not sure of the events in 1Kings 22:20-23 happened. But, God showed Micaiah these things, because he was a true prophet of the Lord and the events described were a story or parable.  And, of the 400 since Ahab number had come up, they actually spoke the will of God.  Because, Ahab times was no more, and to die in battle he had to be there.

And, to your question:  How are people defeated today because of believing *the lie*?  I started a discussion about mistakes people make about God's Love.  What is *the lie* you are asking about?  since you highlighted it that way.   But, if people believe a lie, then they are defeated.
