All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Ok, how can the "Watchtower Wall" be torn down? I know naturally only by God.

But, what does a person do when a scripture or something is stated and they go automatically to a watchtower or their corupted NWT?

For ex. if I use John 1:1 they'll go to their NWT and tell me "See Jesus isn't God, he's a god".

There's way more complicated verses but that's the one I remember (with the help of another thread on here).

And, if some how "truth" gets through they'll twist it.

So, how can a person even have a discussion when they'll just go to their watchtowers/NWT?

Thank you, I'll look.

Big problem on the 1st link. It says don't have a bible study. Is that importent? For mom and I had a bible study, almost 4 years ago. It stopped awhile back though. JW still have come around (not alot though) to bring watchtowers.

How do I tell them the gospel when they reject the cross and bodily resurrection?

Ugh, I need to rely on God more, I know that.

I started a bible study before Jesus saved me. I've been in their Kingdom Hall (for example that memorial thing)a few times. I've seen their watchtowers. They've given me books. What I'm afraid of is that they'll oneday find out I threw alot of their stuff away (they'd really think they were the true religion than). It was atleast probably a year or so ago but the point is I threw alot of the stuff away.

I can pray for your friend, does she have a nickname?

What I'm afraid of. My mom, who's known them since before I was born, over 20 years, shares in some of their beliefs (Jesus being Michael, Jesus is a spirit, doesn't like crosses worn and hopes hell doesn't exist (she said she hoped the JW were right and hell doesn't exist). Yet she isn't baptized. I've been able to talk to her about the rapture (which the JW don't believe) so there's atleast a sliver of hope. And, she believes there will be a man called the Anti-Christ (which the JW don't believe). I remember she talked about people going to heaven, paradise or hell after death when I was little. So, yeah her beliefs are mixed with JW and Christian.

I'm afraid they'll convince her I'm used by Satan, persecuting God's people (she thinks the JW are God's people) and a hater of Jehovah if they find out what I believe. They'll turn her against the family (unless their potential converts), have her baptized and she'll only be allowed around the JW (unless she goes around potential converts like at the door to door knocking). There's hope now but the hope dimens if she becomes a JW. She'll see them as her only true family...

The JW know me well.

I know they're brainwashed. That's the reason I'm not sure how to get through to them...

Pray the Holy Spirit opens up a door.

Wait a minute... what's Hebrews 2:16 mean?

Actually, they don't even use that many scriptures, from experience of talking to them. They mainly just use scriptures that just say Michael the Archangel.

I hope it's ok, but can I pray for your sister as well?

John 1:1 clearly reveals the deity of Christ. Please note:
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (NKJV).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (NIV).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (KJV).
*The Logos was with God, the Logos was divine (Moffatt).
*The Word dwelt with God, and what God was, the Word was (NEB).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (RSV).
*The Word was with God, and the nature of the Word was the same as the nature of God (Barclay).
*That word was with God and was God (Phillips).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (NASB).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (ASV).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (Douay-Rheims).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (Darby).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (ERV).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (Weymouth).
*The Word was with God, and the Word was God (Young's Literal).

In contrast, the New World Translation (that is, the JW 'Bible') renders this part of John 1:1 in a most unusual way:

'The Word was with God, and the Word was a god.'

This is a clumsy and incorrect way of translating John 1:1 and the JWs only do it for doctrinal reasons (that is: because they accept 'Arianism' which has long been a heresy of established Christianity; Arianism allows Jesus to be God's highest creation, but not God). Please note that every major translation recognises that the original Greek insists that there is no qualitative difference between the Word and God - despite this, the NWT insists on demoting the Word to 'a god.' The indefinite article (that is: a) does not, by the way, occur in the Greek but is inserted by the Witnesses to represent a Jesus who is separate from God. This flawed device simply will not do if one is going to be faithful to the Greek and even liberal Bible scholars have never suggested the downgrading of the Word in the manner in which the 'New World Translation' does (that is, as "a god" - an indefinite article and no capital 'G'). This is a flagrant betrayal of what the Greek very clearly states and puts the NWT at odds with about 40 other English Bibles which have no difficulty in correctly interpreting the Greek text.

In complete contrast, the New Testament is clear about the divinity of Jesus: Matthew 28:19-20;

Ephesians 1:23; John 4:25-29; 6:64-65; 13:11; 19:28; 21:17.

1. He knew their thoughts: Matthew 9:4; 12:25; 22:18; Mark 2:8; 12:15; Luke 5:22; 6:8; 9:47; 11:17;

John 2:24-25; 5:42; 6:6,64-65; 16:19,30; Acts 1:24.

2. He knew the future: Matthew 16:21; 20:18-19; John 2:19,21-22; 12:23-24,32-33.

3. He is Eternal: 1 Timothy 1:17; 6:14-16; Hebrews 7:24-25; Revelation 1:4-5,8,17; 2:8; 21:6; 22:13.

4. He is pre-existent to Creation: John 1:1-3,10; 3:13; 6:62; 8:34-36,58; 17:3-5,24;

1 Corinthians 8:6; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:13-20; Hebrews 1:2;

Revelation 13:8.

Yes, in Hebrews 1:8, the writer of Hebrews indeed calls Jesus 'O, God.'

1. If I use the KJV they'll just direct me to a NWT. There may be an argument how the KJV is "corupted" and how it "took out God's name" but the NWT is God's word. "Here let's use the NWT, it'll be easier to understand."

2. I tried that verse a long time ago. 1 John 5:7 This is how they read it

7For there are three witness bearers, 8the spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are in agreement.

:sighs: I can't witness to them about hell. That'll probably just get into a big argument. "Hell is a pagan belief" "God would never torture His children for all of eternity." That is a no go topic with them. They'll get defensive.

That's a big problem. I don't have any Christian friends or a pastor I can talk to anymore. That's why I like internet fellowship so much.

Another problem I don't know when the JW will show up. It's random.

John 1:1, they'll say Christ is a "god". That verse is a "trap verse for them.

I've tried quiestions...The verses I use get twisted. Any truth it seems gets twisted...

God bless!

Slow, steady faithfulness will make a difference. Stay on target or focus. Don't get frustrated if they don't listen. There will come a time when somebody will listen and will not reach for the watchtower. Do you know that song called High Hopes?

Some of the lyrics to High Hopes...

Next time you're found with your chin on the ground
There's a lot to be learned so look around
Just what makes that little ol' ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant can't
Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes... he's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie in the sky hopes
So any time you're getting low
'Stead of letting go,
Just remember that ant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.

You are looking to break down a wall. Consider the ant, it doesn't know any different. It believes the rubber tree will move. It continues to tug and push with all its might until the rubber tree moves.

Love and God bless,
Mary

It wouldn't be so bad if my mother wasn't "being held spiritually hostage". And, if they could think for themselves...Fear is a big stumbling block right now.

It looks like the  ant has more faith than me right now...

I can't tell f you are an adult or a child by your writing. If you are an adult you don't have to stay in the room when they visit with your mother. I would suggest you not talk to or listen to them. I feel you don't have the knowledge of the Bible to converse with people involved in other religions. You should stop reading their material and/or their version of the bible . You should find a bible believing pastor or friend to discuss the bible with and if possible have them to come to your house when the JWs are there.

They used to come by my house but it didn't take me long to let them know I knew more bible than they did and I refused to discuss the material they wanted to read to me. I would make them stay with the KJ version or they could leave. Soon they quit coming around.

Physically I'm an adult. But, on a mental/emotional level I'm that of a child.

If I leave the room it's a risk, there's a high risk they'll think I'm persecuting them. And, if they think I'm persecuting them they'll get mom to shun me/get away from me. They'll make her believe I'm of Satan, baptize her and she'll only be allowed around JW and potential converts.

I would love to find a pastor/friend to come to the house when they JW are there. The problems?

1. I don't know when the JW will come. It's random. Usually, it's not really early not really late though. But, they could show up anytime pretty much.

2.My one friend who is a Christian is now in college. I don't ever see her anymore. I don't have a pastor. Ever since I graduated High School in May 2011 I've lost so much contact with brothers and sisters in Christ. The only fellowship I get is from those on t.v, the Voice of the Martyrs and their magazines/Gospel for Asia, and online. Not face to face though.

If I do one wrong thing than they'll cry persecution. Trust me...I've asked questions before. "They're lieing on God's people...." Is the respounce I got. Also, that they're persecuting God's people. I gave up on asking certain questions because I don't want to hear "They're persecuting God's people..." again.

Ok, I'm frustrated. :sighs: You may be able to tell in how I'm "typing" (it's not really typing since I have to look at the keys).

I've tried using another translation. I got told it's easier and less confusing with their NWT and get showed the verse/s from that bible. I'm not good at talking anyway. So, I get tounge tied and don't want to argue. For, what's the use of trying to argue? They'll probably say my version has been coruted anyway...

beautiful

What's beautiful?

that was supposed to be a reply on Mary's lyrics to High Hopes, not sure why it posted here though
