All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

My son (15yrs old) was asking some questions today, and I hope to receive some additional input on how best to answer one of his sought-after facts. He asked me if I believe in ghosts, or spirits in our environment. He referenced the tv program "Ghost Hunters." You probably are aware of it, but just in case you are unfamiliar, the program bases on spirit encounters, or encounters with deceased human beings. A group of individuals seeks out these spirits in hopes of communicating with them. They take pictures and audio clips of their findings and so forth. Before I go further, I will say that I do not permit my son to watch this stuff, but I know he has, as many youngsters do. There are so many devilish programs on tv, it's difficult to stop them from ever seeing things they shouldn't. To move on, my answer to his inquiry went something like this. I said there are spirits, but they don't walk around amongst us. They move on to one of two places, but those places are not here where we are. I also said that those people on the tv are literally playing with fire because demons DO roam the earth and that they lie, manipulate, impersonate, and they sometimes take up residents in humans through possession. It's nothing to mess with or joke about. So, that was basically my answer, but wonder if it was enough. That's why I'm writing this in hopes you might help me clarify and emphasize the difference between what happens to us when we die and what that Ghost Hunters program signifies. So, if you are willing to touch on this subject, please do. I can use all the help I get in guiding my son's understanding. Children today are bombarded with tons of lies and evil conduct. My son came at me with a few questions today, this was just one of them.

Hi GinnyBear,
I agree, the people on those shows are playing with fire. I saw an episode where one of the investigators got knocked over by something in the dark. He was screaming and very scared. They later showed the special camera footage. His camera mysteriously flew up and smacked him. I do watch Ghosthunters once in a while to keep up with what they are saying (like three times a year.) The few times I've watched, I've observed that the forces they are messing with are becoming more aggressive.

The networks have also developed shows that are far worse. There's a new show Search for the Truth. And a new show that's really out there about extreme paranormal. I expect they'll receive serious injuries from the forces they're playing with. It's just a matter of time.

James 3:15
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
or another translation...This wisdom is not from heaven, but is of the earth and the flesh and the Evil One.

Sometimes a haunting will be debunked. To me that's their only redeeming quality. Recently an investigative team (different show) was called to investigate a haunting. The homeowners were hearing many mysterious voices. The investigators' new research showed that quartz can hold sound and reflect it around. The house was built on a large quartz deposit.

You gave a great answer. It's better that he hears the answer from you. If kids can't get answers at home, they'll go elsewhere. Since he got the straight answer from you, he's equipped with the truth.
I agree with you on what happens after death. I have wondered however if there might be something to the concept of a residual haunting. This is the theory that some event, usually one that was emotionally powerful inprints itself in some way on an environment. I've been in buildings that had a lot of tragic history and it does seem that you can almost feel it in the atmosphere. A residual haunting would be more like some kind of nature recorder then a ghost or spirit and I don't see any contradiction with scripture. Of course this is just speculation.
