How does prayer effect the person when you're praying for their salvation since they have free will?

Feet...

For everyone I meet, when I recognize they might not be saved, I ask God to send the Holy Spirit to draw them to Him. I know *HE would have all men to be saved...* so that is praying in His Will. Whether that person answers the call of the Holy Spirit or not is another matter, because of *free will*. When I pray that prayer, the person might not respond or he might. I will know the next time I see him.

Most of my prayers are of a spiritual nature, praying for salvation or praying for a turning away from an erroneous path a person might be on. My prayers stem from believing that a person control their own path. I believe they have the power to correct what is wrong in their lives, physical or spiritual, and that it does deal with their own will.

When I am asked that a person be prayed for for illness, again I pray for a strengthening of their belief. I believe through one's own belief in the healing power of God therefore I pray for strengthening of that.

Blessings...

Rita

Hi Embracing God,

God wants us to be assured of our salvation.  And we can be assured.  Check out these verses:

1 John 5:5-15

5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ[a] has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. 3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

6 And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on the cross[b]—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony. 7 So we have these three witnesses[c] 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and all three agree. 9 Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son. 10 All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son.

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

Conclusion

13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

Hello Embracing God..

The verses are Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Verses 24-28 tells us how to build on a solid foundation

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

My notes regarding verses 24-27 are as follows:  The house represents a religious life; the rain represents divine judgement.  Only the house built on the foundation of obedience to God's Word stands; which calls for repentance, rejection of salvation by works, and trust in God's Grace to save through His merciful provision.

Also James 1:22-25 says

22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Our entire personality should be transformed into doing God's Will.

You're welcome Beloved. :-)

Hi Feet,

Our prayers for the unsaved can soften a persons heart to receive the things of God and help them to see their own sin and need for a Saviour.  Our words are powerful... they really do matter.  The things we say can make a difference in helping people see the truth of Christ, their need for Christ, and the beauty of Christ.  But first they have to understand that they are sinners in need of a Saviour.  This can be accomplished with prayer and evangelism

Ultimately they do have a freewill and have the freedom to say 'no' to the beautiful gift of Eternal life and freedom from sin and bondage.  It's heartbreaking when people reject God...  We have to remember that God loves them and wants them to be saved far more than we do.  Our job is to pray and deliver the message asking God for the right words to reach them.  Trust that the things you say are planting seeds, and that someone else will water those seeds.  Ultimately it is God who provides the growth.

Lord Bless, Carla

Hi. Thank you. I know that words can do good but they can also cause alot of harm. I think it may be in James about the power of the tounge. I know if I try to say something I'll make things worse. That's why it's best to wait on the Holy Spirit and lift them up in prayer. For if I try to convince them by myself I'll only make things worse [and that'd be total arrogance since I wouldn't be trusting God, I'd foolishly be trusting in myself]. That's why it's best to pray, God will take care of things. Besides, I think I got a comforting word from the Holy Spirit awhile back. The only way they'll know about the deity of Christ is if He reveals it to them.

I've got to trust God. Only He can help them and provide any hope in this situation. :)

Feets.. I agree that words can cause a lot of harm also.  Sometimes it is better to say nothing and pray...until they specificallly ask..  and even then, pray for the right words so as not to respond in our 'flesh'.

I think we all have someone in our lives who is close to us and does not know the Lord..

I have my husband, two sisters, and 9 inlaws in my immediate family.  I love these people very much, but as far as me evangelizing them (particularly my husband) it only causes harm.... I have seen God put people in their lives who have the freedom to speak...  And God uses me the same for other people's loved ones.

I have to believe that HE is doing the same for your loved ones.

Lord Bless, Carla (ps--my bible study this week is on the power of the tongue in the book of James)

Many times they begin to feel convicted.  This can result in them running from The Lord, for a time.  Remember His Word will not return to Him void.  As we Pray for others, operating in and with The Word, we learn to get out of the way.  We rest in His Love, and put our Trust in that Love.

I am here today because my Mom spent time; spent a LOT of time on her knees for me in Prayer.  On your knees or not Prayer is so very Powerful.

Thank you both Carla and Chris for the encourgement.

I also need prayer over my mind, my thoughts have been very unholy since a youtube video that i watched on hell, i have had a huge change of heart and mind, it felt as if something evil from that video changed me and i did not feel like my self after watching that video, i started to see god in a bad light and i turned a way from Christianity for a while which i have never done before, i think that maybe an evil spirit from that video somehow got attached to me and it started messing around with my thoughts and my mind, please pray for me i feel so different now i feel like my love for god is somehow slipping away please pray.

Praying for you. Also, ask for prayer in the prayer room. That way more people will see your request.
