How do I explain this?
If someone says Jesus can't be God because Jesus prayed to God like
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

If I get told "See Jesus didn't pray to himself he prayed to his Heavenly Father". I know Jesus didn't pray to Himself but I'm not sure what to tell them.
And if someone says
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

The Holy Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. All 3 are different yet, bound together. A long time ago I heard one way of looking at this, as a egg. What is a egg, what makes it up? You have the shell, the egg white, and the yoke. They are all different yet, make up the egg. Jesus humbled Himself to become flesh; to become a man. The Word tells us He was filled with Holy Spirit. He did what the Father told Him to do. As with Jesus the Spirit also, tells us what the Father has said. They both are obedient to the Father. All things were made through Jesus. Jesus is the Word of God. One thing to remember is, His Ways are by far higher than ours. Still, in Jesus we are able to see and understand the Trinity, as the Father Wills. Trust this helps some.

When they bring up these passages, say something like, I understand your view if you only looked at those passages. However, let's look at Philippians 2:7-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of a cross. Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Then ask them if they've ever thought about this Scripture or did they just take the Watch Tower's word for it?

Does it matter their bible is worded differently? The thing about the JW is they always take the watchtower's word for it. They don't know how to think for themselves apart from the watchtower.

You have stoked my curiosity so much in this matter that I'm ordering the Bible they use as well as the KIT. Then we can dig together girlfriend. In the meantime, you are in my prayers. If you have their Bible, look it up & see if it says the same thing.

You would do well to stop studying their teachings and to soak yourselves in the Truth. We must be careful of what we feed our minds and it is best to just know the truth and then when you hear someone saying something differently, you will have an answer for whatever they say that is not in alignment with the absolute truths found in the Bible.
All the JW books and the tools they use are all designed to oppose biblical truths and they twist Scripture to make it fit a counterfeit theology that is very dangerous. The version of their bible is filled with mistranslations designed to prove what they teach. They see Christians and all those who disagree with them as mortal enemies. They are tightly controlled by the Watchtower and since you are already familiar with all of these things I encourage you to fill your mind with the true Scriptures and to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Philippians 4:8, think on these things and not on what you already know to be false and lies.
Delve into the Word of God and by all means find out whatit teaches about the trinity, Jesus' deity and resurrection, the Holy Spirit and salvation through grace, not works. Stay away from their bible and their books and their tracts. Don't read them. If you hope to have an anwer for those who come to your door, see 1 Peter 3:15. You need to know in your own heart that Jesus is God and he died for your sins and was raised on the third day, and you can't know this just according to reason. It's something that God will reveal to you. I think He already has but I encourage you to stop reading JW materials and stay in the Truth.

I totally agree with you Amanda. From what I know about her is she just came out from among them & her mother & others are still there. I'm thinking, just my opinion, that she's looking to secure her position as well as praying her family may see the truth. But, I'm like you, I think anything held against the true Light will show itself for what it is. I use to study apologetics & I felt the Lord leading me away & telling me that if I spent as much time in the Word as I did in the false religions, I'd be off the chain.

I understand. I was concerned when I saw your comment that you were going to order their translation. I have two older sisters who are very deeply in these beliefs and have been for 20+ years. I am familiar with the beliefs only through what they say and have never read any of the materials or that translation and have never had any desire to simply because I have always been able to point out what the Scriptures say whenever they have tried to discuss it with me. I just won't hear it from them without defending my faith but I try to be nice to them because I want them to see the Truth. I recently was concerned for a few people who appeared to me to be involved in a certain movement that teaches people are becoming deity and I investigated some of their beliefs but learned the hard way that it is best to just stay in the Truth. The lies exist. One lie is that as God is, Man can become. That lie really bothers me and many people are believing it but it brings God down to the level of man and brings man up to the level of God. I am very burnt out right now, too. I know that many people are going out into eternity everyday lost because of lies. That is heartbreaking. But what can we do? Pray for them. Love them. Speak the Truth.

I was thinking of getting those books just to help our friend here. I was curious to see their interpretation of the Word & just to see the twists & turns they use to back their malarkey. I've been in the "cult" of Christianity for 40 years. Jesus has me brain-washed. hehehe. I haven't ordered them yet but was just thinking I could probably read it online & save my money for some shoes.

Tammy, please pray for Christ's protection because they can be very deceptive in wording. I would never want to be the cause for a sister/brother in Christ to accidently fall for such deception.
Amanda, I agree, chocolates sound better than shoes. Sister Tammy, I hope I didn't cause any offence about my shoe comment below. If so please forgive me. I just had to make a comment about shoes. :) Sister, here's an idea! Maybe you could buy yourself a slightly cheeper pair of shoes and some cholcolate. That way you get the best of both worlds! :)
I don't care for new shoes too well. It's not comfy to try to fit them in. I like my old shoes I got now. Praise Jesus! For He made the co-co bean. :)
