All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I know my relationship with Him hasn't been the best. And, sadly there's been distractions (if I lived in the country there wouldn't be as many).

When you're relationship with Jesus hasn't been going to well and there's too much noise and distraction what do you personally do? What do you ask God to help you with?

I find that I first ask God to help bring me closer to Him.  Then I know it is in His hands!  Next, when I'm feeling distant,  it's usually because I haven't set out as much time in my day to be one-on-one with Him.  Do you dedicate time in the day to read the Bible, write down your prayers or times you've seen God in your life in a journal, or talk about God with a friend?  If that doesn't help me feel closer, then I start examining my life and ask myself, "What is it that is keeping me from taking that next step closer in my relationship?"  It is anxiety, worry, money, a problem, persecution, a certain sin, etc.  Try to put your finger on it and ask God to help you eliminate whatever barrier is keeping you from getting closer to Him.  Remember, when you're feeling distant, it is not because God is falling away, he is working on you, polishing you into the person He wants you to be.  I pray that you find peace and closeness with God on your spiritual journey.

Blessings,

Hodie

Word's of wisdom,very encouraging!

Hodie. The bible? Ok, I have to admit...I have trouble reading the Bible. I know the Holy Spirit wants me to know 2 Corinthians 12:9...:sighs: I guess since I have trouble processing what it's even saying by reading it...that's why I have trouble I guess...

I've wrote to Jesus before in my journal. Talking about God with a friend? I don't have face to face Christian fellowship...

Anxiety and fear? Yeah, I've got that.

I talk to God. I just need to do it more...I used to more talkitive to Him. Things have happened...My faith was better when He first saved me...

Honestly,I'd love to get out in the country. That way there wouldn't be as many distractions. My relationship wouldn't really grow with Him than.

For me personally, it usually means that I am not willing to deal with something the Lord has already placed His finger on in my life!

I've tried running from the Lord, that didn't work. The 'problem' was still there. i tried moving to another state! That didn't work, the problem was still there! I tried reading self esteem books, make me feel good material, that didn't work! The problem was still there.

So, I found the answer one day. i stopped looking elsewhere for the solution to my problem/s and entered into my prayer closet! There I poured out my heart, there I sat and listened to the voice of God speak to me, and from there I came out determined to walk in His leading and the directions He had given. There was definitely sin in my life to deal with. That came first. As I walked in obedience,my relationship with the Lord grew more and more intimate. It works the same today for me.When I am 'feeling' distant, there is usually a barrier of some sort that is blocking that free flowing relationship. It may not be  a 'big' willful sin in my life, but maybe just a straying of some sort, maybe an attitude,or fear over the future,a lack of trusting God with everything.God loves us and wants the best for us, but His best for us usually will cost us some 'fleshly' pain!We can't have His best unless self is crucified daily. That is what taking up our cross and following Him means,to die to self that He might live in and through us. This is as close as you can possibly walk with the Lord,It is no longer "I" that lives, but Christ in me!

Troy, how can you know when you hear the voice of God?

There's been barriers in my relationship with God...I know that as true...

Personally, I think it's according to how bad you want it. You look distractions right in the face & know they're not of Him & do it anyways, I'd say for me personally, I don't want it bad enough.

Sister, there's atleast a few ways that prevent me pretty much from getting distracted. For ex. when I'm laying in a dark room before I go to bed. It's difficult to get distracted when all you pretty much see is darkness. Thats probably why I love really small spaces and dark places. I than can talk to Him better.

Sad thing is even a person talking is distracting. I'm trying to talk to Him (mentally) and someone suddenly says something to me. It's really hard to talk to Him when another person suddenly starts talking. I get distracted very easily...

That's probably one reason why I want to get out of the city so much...It's easier to get distracted by alot of noise than birds singing in the trees.

I think He puts that into account. I don't think you are purposely going against Him from what I can see.

He judges the heart. I'd love to have more time with Him. It'd be nice if all this materialism (a.k.a the city) was instead an old country home.

Even just a very woodeded area in the back of a house would be good. Of course, I shouldn't complain since the back yard looks like a forest with so many trees. I'd just like to go out into a wooded area daily and spend quality time with Him.
