Well, if it is, I have several sins on my person.

It depends why you're doing it.

Tattooing and piercings are an old pagan practice which would be done as a mark of respect for people who have died or also an offering to a false god.  These pagan customs are a form of idolatry.

A good principal to follow is found in 1 Cor 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

I personally do have my ears pierced.  I have had them pierced since I was a teenager, well before I knew the Lord. I don't remember why I wanted it in the first place.

I do wear earrings.  When I wear the earrings I don't give a second thought as to why I'm wearing them.

It's not something that God has required of me to remove from my habits.  Certain other things have been required of me for my own well-being, but it may very well be a personal thing for each one of us.  God knows our struggles, and our temptations, and if He wants to remove something from you that will be harmful, than you would do well to be obedient.

Remember we are in a spiritual battle, and there are two sides to all that is going on.  If you do something, and you feel 'condemned', that is not God's voice.  If you do something and you feel 'convicted', that is The Holy Spirit guiding you to the thing that God desires for you.

Condemnation continually shows you the problem or sin, and is intended to tear you down.  It points out failure but does not offer a solution.  It breeds depression, anxiety, feelings of 'not loved' or 'not good enough'.

Conviction is the voice of The Holy Spirit.  Conviction shows you the sin, leads you to repentance, and reveals God's Love and Forgiveness.  It is intended to build you up and help you to become the person God intends you to be.

I believe that God cares more about what is in our hearts, rather than what is on the external.   If your decisions for external appearance are rooted in a desire to honor false idols than ear piercing is a sin.

If your decision to pierce your ears is simply something you want to do and it is not linked to honoring false idols, than it is not a sin.

Blessings, Carla
