Hello Brother, I know you will probably get a lot of do's and don'ts, as to what you should do to become a good Christian, however I will only tell you "unless you ask a specific question " to read the  book of John, especially  John 16:13 (KJV)
13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. So just ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your walk with Him, and He will help you. Bible says in  1 John 2:27 (KJV)
27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

This would be my prayer for you though, Eph. 1:16...That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, would give unto you the spirit of wisdom, and revelation in the knowledge of Him, and that the eyes of your understanding be enlightened that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what is the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and  set Him at His own right hand in heavenly places, far above all principalities and powers, and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come, and hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is HIs body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all. Amen?

Amen. I apologize for taking a little bit to reply to you. Me and my wife have just moved and I am just starting a new job. Thank you for your words of wisdom and the scriptures you pointed out to me are making sense.

Hi Anthony,

Welcome to the family!  JB has given you some great advice to start reading with the book of John.

You've made a great step in joining an online Christian community.

Have you found a church family where you live?  As you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour and Lord, He has given you His Holy Spirit.  As you learn in group fellowship, prayer and study, the growth you experience will be a natural thing.

You will come up against Spiritual Warfare....satan is our only enemy.  Don't be surprised when you have doubts or if you feel tired or some other form of dis-ease, distraction, family arguments etc....comes over you as you attempt to know the Lord deeply and attend fellowship groups.  Satan attacks with these sorts of things, so now you may not be surprised by it when it happens, but rather fight through it and continue to learn and grow.

Remember we are in a Spiritual Battle, and we win with spiritual weapons.  Prayer!

Ephesians 6:10-20New Living Translation (NLT)

The Whole Armor of God

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[a] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[b] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[c] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.[d]

19 And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.[e] 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.

Life by the Spirit

13You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesha ; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”b 15If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whateverc you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

where can i find the 2nd scripture? yes I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior. At this time No We have not found a home church. We are looking

Anthony,

Along with what has been said I will add a little from my thoughts. You do not need to know how to be a Christian ... if you truly gave your heart to the Lord and received Him you ARE A CHRISTIAN, CHILD OF GOD. Now as a new born child of God your desire should be to live in a manner that pleases Him, not out of fear, but because you love Him and want to make your Father in Heaven happy with your life.

There are four things that help us along this journey that I encourage. These four are not to make you a Christian or even to make you a better Christian ...you already are a Christian! These steps are to help you in making decisions in life that will help you please God ... again I emphasize because you love Him and want to please Him. That part is critical. If you seek to do things because you are afraid of Him and somehow must earn His favor you will fall into legalism. While at the same time one cannot approach life with a now that I am saved I can do whatever I want. Focus ... live to please Him because you love Him.

There are four things that I recommend for us to be involved in regularly. These four help to strengthen us when things are going well and help us overcome when things are difficult or God feels far away. These four are 1) Read the Word 2) Prayer 3) Positive Christian Fellowship 4) An Accountability Partner or Group.

1) The Word: When beginning your journey the Gospel of John or the Gospel of Luke are great places to start. When times are tough I like to read Colossians and 1 John. They inspire me, pick me up and help me to see past my current storm, which will pass.
2) Prayer: We need to be in prayer seeking the Lord's presence and comfort, while crying out to Him in our difficult times as well as good times. He tells us to come to the throne of grace in our time of need. The door is open and He is always waiting attentively to meet with us when we come to Him. Remember that part of prayer is silently sitting at His feet listening for what He wants to say or reveal to you. It is not all about talking, but communicating.
3) Positive Christian Fellowship: We are referred to as sheep for a reason in the Bible. We need each other. There are no Lone Ranger Christians. When we feel beat up and down our natural response is to run and hide, which is the worst possible choice at that very time. We need the love, comfort and fellowship of fellow believers that are traveling the same path we are in life. Do not stop at one church if it is not right for you. Seek until you find the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit come over you in the midst of that group.
4) Accountability: We need people close to us that we can share with. These people have to be people that we can trust and open up to. They are not "Yes" people, but ones that will ask the difficult questions and loving challenge us when we are wrong and encourage us when we have victories. One must seek God's guidance as to who one might choose as an accountability partner. One must choose wisely.

Lord Bless,

LT

Thank you. Your reply was very insightful and helpful

Hey Brother, I'm in the same boat man but I'll pray for you I got you Brother stay strong homie

Hi Anthony,

Grace and peace be with you.

Welcome to the kingdom of God!

We are so glad you are here with us.

Every thing we are and everything we do begins, continues, and ends with Jesus and his kingdom.

The entire mission and life of Jesus’ kingdom can be summed up in six words: Love God and love your neighbor.

In the first few verses of John 15, Jesus says to the disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.”

Jesus goes on to say that he has an assignment for each of us: "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

I would encourage you to read the Bible to grow in your faith. It is the word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation. I recommend you begin by reading the New Testament gospels to learn about God's purpose and plan for your life.

May the God fill you with joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
