All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hello all,

I've read a few things concerning the 10 Commandments and there is one that has me troubled. I'm a shift worker and often I have to work on Sundays and miss church. The Bible tells me to honor the Sabbath and that if I don't then I am damned regardless of whether or not I have broken any of the other commandments.

I don't want to be damned

Thanks Robbin,

I'll follow your advice and pray for a change in my situation. I attend a Pentacostal church that only has services on Sunday. I'm Christian-wise still a baby and am not sure about attending services that may be offered at another church at a different time.

Objectively, I work only nightshifts so I could make the Sunday a,m. service but with a combined 3hr commute and 12hr shift I'm a frazzle and think I'd be prone to nodding off.

I don't want to attend church simply to say I was there, I often pray quietly and read my Bible daily but it bothers me that I might not be saved as I am not honoring the Sabbath

Thanks Robbin, as a new Christian I have questions and it seems the more I read of the Bible the more questions I have (not the content but the interpretation) and the more I want to read.

Take care my friend and God Bless

If you have accepted Christ as your Savior and follow Him, you are not damned! Regardless if your work keeps you from Sunday Service. You are saved by Grace. Unmerited favor of God.

The laws were given to show us what sin is because without laws, there would be no sin.

Stick to the New Testament until you have a firm grip on what it says.

Jesus came and fulfilled the law. In doing this, He has completed the sin/law. The New Testament gives you what you need for salvation.

May Jesus bless you as you study His Word.

Scott, I want to encourage you to not worry about the whole "Sabbath" day issue. In this thread you say you are a new Christian, so I hope this will help and the other replies have been good. First, I will tell you that you are not bound by the Ten Commandments. For two reasons, 1)no one other than Jesus has ever kept them all and 2) in Ephesians 2:14-15 Jesus has done away with the Law in "regulation". This means that our salvation is not tied to keeping the law. However, don't take that as liberity to just live as you please.
The Sabbath was a day for the Jews, not for us gentiles. The "Christain" church worships God on Sunday which is not the Sabbath Day. The Sabbath is on Saturday. I understand you work and that is a neccesity in this life. Therefore, go to church for corprate worship when and as often as you can. We are taught to not "foresake" gather together. You might have a Bible study in you home or at someone elses once a week. We have misapplied scripture and turned "church" into a religous function. Your relationship with Christ is not dependant upon you attending a worship service at the local church building. It goes much deeper than that. I personally know many who attend each week and they bare no fruit of Christ in their lives. Just walk with Christ each day, picking up you cross and following after Him. Read Romans 12:1-2. Be blessed my brother!

hi Scott, i wouldn't worry about it christianity is basied on faith not works, we all sin, and and anyway man has distroyed christianity to the point that the seventh day is Sat not Sun this was changed many centuries ago, we are now celebrating the sabbath on the first day of the week, its the maddness of man..

As long as you live in faith and go about life believing, your not going to get any better.
