Douglas,

I think it is down to you and me. I don't think anyone else is following this forum. It is not showing up on the main page and no one is aware of our discussion. That may be for the good. I do not want to be offensive in any way. I do consider you an unbeliever. Believing that Jesus was just a man even though a very special one does not make you a Christian. I am sure you are a very religious person. You have your faith. You consider me a Pharisee. Of course, no Pharisee would ever acknowledge Jesus as being the Holy One of Israel but you can continue to believe such a thing if that makes you feel better.

 

I am writing these posts simply because no one else is doing it. I do not consider myself a scholar. However, I do know my Lord. I know Him personally. I am not finished. I had hoped someone more qualified would answer but I don't believe any are aware. Therefore, you are stuck with me. I will be posting tomorrow about the Shepherd. God our Shepherd is none other than Jesus. He said He was coming and He did come.

 

If you are trying to convince me that the translators of the King James, American Standard, Revised Standard, New International and other versions all have conspired to paint an incorrect picture about God and His Word, I am not buying it. I personally believe their purpose and goal was to give us as accurate of a translation of the original texts as possible. I must admit that I have to rely on them since I cannot read the Hebrew myself.

 

I am willing to continue writing these posts. I am planning on it. If your purpose is to only convince some and it is only me that Jesus is not God, I must let you know that you are wasting your time. However, you put this forum on AAG and even though I don't know why, I do feel some responsibility to answer in my own feeble way your charges that Jesus is not God.

You have not yet responded to the second of my posts. I plan to post the third tomorrow. I'm not sure how many I will do but as long as you respond I plan to continue. You came to a site that believes Jesus is God. I have to assume you are searching. I will continue.

Well, I think it is just us three then. The problem I see with my limited scope is that the Bible presents Jesus to us as God and man. Douglas is picking out verses that refer to Jesus as man only and discounts those that refer to Him as God. Of course, you can find Scriptural verification that Jesus was a man. He was a man. But, He was also God. God and man in one person. There are just too many references in the Bible to Him being God to discount it and remain a believer in His Word. To do so you have to come up with this conspiracy theory that the translators were biased and wanted to present Him differently than what He really was. I am just not buying it.

This is the second of the posts to share that the One in the Old Testament that foretold of His coming is none other than Jesus. He is the eternal God. Can you hear His voice? Do you recognize Him?

The Stone that Causes Men to Stumble –

Isa 28:16 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
"See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who trusts will never be dismayed. NIV

God is building a house. It is all those Who belong to Him that He has called out from the world to be His own. He is building a Kingdom. The reference here is speaking of extreme volatile times that were approaching Israel. In verse 22 He speaks of the terrible destruction that lies in wait. The message is, however, that although destructive times were approaching, He had laid in Zion a cornerstone that would never be destroyed. This stone would weather the storm and all those who put their trust in this stone would never be disappointed.

His Kingdom will not be dismantled. The whole world is headed towards very troublesome times. It may be the time of Jacob’s troubles spoken of by the prophet Jeremiah. However, the purpose shall be served and the Kingdom shall stand. It will survive.

This cornerstone is clearly revealed to us as Jesus:
1 Pe 2:4-8
4 As you come to him, the living Stone — rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says:

"See, I lay a stone in Zion,
a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame."
7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,
"The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone, "
8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall."

We can easily see the authenticity of this claim played out during the time of Jesus on the earth and the time thereafter. The Jews, teachers of the Law, rabbis, et al, could not grasp who this was that was speaking to them.
Jn 6:41-42 At this the Jews began to grumble about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven." 42 They said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I came down from heaven'?" NIV

They stumbled as they did not recognize the One that had foretold His own coming. Here He was claiming to be the “Bread from Heaven” the substance of life. He who comes to Him will never be hungry. He is the bread – not another.

Here they were attempting to represent the eternal God to Israel, and yet they missed Him. He was there in their midst and they did not recognize Him. He did let them know that if they were part of those the Father had given Him, they would know Him.

The purpose of the cornerstone is to lay a foundation so deep, so strong that nothing can bring destruction of the building. We are that building with Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone. It will not fail, and it will not fall. No power can ever cause it to crumble.

Jesus is this cornerstone but He had already prophesied His coming. Note:
Isa 8:13-16
13 The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread,
14 and he will be a sanctuary;
but for both houses of Israel he will be
a stone that causes men to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.
And for the people of Jerusalem he will be
a trap and a snare.
15 Many of them will stumble;
they will fall and be broken,
they will be snared and captured." NIV

There it is. Who is the stone that causes men to stumble? It is the Lord Almighty Himself. He is the One you are to regard as holy, the One to fear. He is the stone that causes men to stumble. It is the Lord Himself. No created being could ever serve in the capacity of a building that could never fall. This must be the Lord Himself. He is the only One that could bring permanence.

This is merely another example of the prophesy of God’s coming being fulfilled in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. God prophesied to us that He was coming. Is there another or is Jesus the One. That, my friend, is for you to decide. Is He the One? Faith or the lack thereof determines your answer.

The major issue i have is the concept of the trinity as it has been made clear to me opened the door for many lesser deities in the church in the realm of saints.These men and women who died now have powers over areas of life and are worshiped.This is my issue most deeply. That to make Jesus God it opened up this and contines to promote this.

 

The first commandnent clearly states in its origional unaltered form.

Thou shalt have no other God besides me.

 

It does not say have no other gods( little g) besides me.

 

Mitigate the word besides to me Roy because this is a foundational block in the theology that God has been forming in me.

 

As the apostle Paul closed Romans

 

To the only wise God be glory for evermore through Jesus Christ.

Yes, it is as you say. I do see things from a different perspective. When we read Scripture we understand it differently. The closing remarks by Paul in Romans in no way discounts the deity of our Lord. For instance, when I read the following:

1 Co 1:20-25
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. NIV

I see Christ as God while you see Him as an extension or representation of some kind. Another example: when I read the following:

Ac 3:15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this...

I have no problems because I do see Jesus as the author of life. You do not see Him as the author of life.

 

Another example: Heb 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. NIV

 

I see Jesus as the author of our faith and have no problem with the knowledge that faith is a gift of God. Jesus authored this faith. The faith is from God. I have no struggle with these verses as I see that faith coming from God.

 

I would struggle to read Scripture and see Christ as any less than God.

This is the third of my posts claiming the presentation of Jesus as the Lord of the Old Testament. This is in response to your claim that Jesus is a created being and not eternal God. This presentation is Jesus, the Shepherd Lord of the Old Testament.

 

The purpose of this post is not necessarily to declare the purpose of the Shepherd but to determine Who He is. One of the most favorite verses in all of the Bible is the 23^rd Psalm:

A Psalm of David.

Ps 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. KJV

 

God often describes Himself in different ways to help us to understand His purpose, being and plans. Here God presents Himself as a Shepherd. Who better than David can describe the One he found in the most difficult times of his life. David had been threatened, chased, apparently cornered, intimidated, etc. by one of the most powerful men and army of the then world. He had suffered later by the failure of his own morals to sustain him in difficult times. He needed a shepherd – someone that could  be to him what he had been to the sheep of his youth. He had cared, protected them from harm, comforted and fed them. He was in great need of that same help in his own life. He found that in God. The Lord was his Shepherd.

 

David was not the only one that would describe God to us as a shepherd. It was Jacob that first describes the Almighty as a Shepherd:

Ge 49:24-25 But his bow remained steady,

his strong arms stayed  limber,

because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,

because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,

25 because of your father's God, who helps you… NIV

 

The Rock of Israel that we spoke of before, is also Israel’s Shepherd. They should have recognized Him when He came to them. They did not.

 

Asaph wrote:

Ps 80:1-2 Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel,

you who lead Joseph like a flock;

you who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth

2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.

Awaken your might; come and save us. NIV

Here we have a powerful presentation of the One that sits enthroned between the cherubim as the One Who was the Shepherd of Israel? Isaiah proclaims:

Isa 40:10-11 See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power,

and his arm rules for him.

See, his reward is with him,

and his recompense accompanies him.

11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:

He gathers the lambs in his arms

and carries them close to his heart;

he gently leads those that have young. NIV

 

Jeremiah gives us insight to His purpose as a shepherd:

Jer 31:10 "Hear the word of the Lord, O nations;

proclaim it in distant coastlands:

'He who scattered Israel will gather them

and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'  NIV

 

God’s plan included the dispersion and regathering of the nation of Israel. He will gather them like a shepherd. A lengthy passage where the Sovereign Lord presents Himself as the Shepherd is found in Ezekiel (just in case someone might say that someone might declare that Jesus was appointed to be the shepherd). There we read:

 

Eze 34:11-16  "'For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. 12 As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. 14 I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord. 16 I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. NIV

 

Yes, Jesus is the David that was to come to shepherd the people but His identification goes much deeper than just a created being. He is both man and God as revealed to us in the presentation of the Shepherd. Jesus identifies Himself as the One that was that Shepherd of the Old Testament. He says:

 

Jn 10:11-17 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

 

14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father — and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.  NIV

 

Firstly, Jesus says He is the Good Shepherd. By identifying Himself as the Good Shepherd He is telling us that He is more than a man. He is God –

Mk 10:18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good — except God alone. NIV

Jesus was responding to a man that had called Him the Good Teacher. The Good Shepherd is more than a man, He is God.

 

Secondly, Jesus is identifying Himself as being that Shepherd that let us know that He was coming to gather the sheep. However, here He speaks of those who were not of that sheep pen. That, of course, is us. We are also His sheep. As His sheep, we can also recognize His voice. His sheep know Him and they follow Him. They recognize Him as that Shepherd of Psalm 23. Psalm 23 now becomes ours as well. All those prophecies become ours. We are a part of His flock. We also can identify ourselves with the God of Israel and His people. He is the Shepherd of our souls.

 

Now I can say with them: “The Lord is MY Shepherd.”

 

Jesus is the Good Shepherd of the Old Testament. He is the One that would come to gather His sheep. He is not a hired hand or created being. He is the original, the owner. Jesus teaches us that the one hired would not carry out that which was necessary to rescue the sheep. Jesus identifies Himself as the owner of the sheep. There is only One that could be the owner. This could never be a created being. This is more than an heir. This is He the Creator of their souls. He had come to find them that were His and rescue them from that which would destroy them. This is the Good Shepherd.

 

I continue to insist that His sheep know His voice. They know His voice from the Scripture of old. They have heard His voice spoken in the synagogues through the centuries and passed down from one generation to the next. As we do today, they had committed to memory those passages such as Ps 23 and when He came they recognized Him as the One.

 

Next we will investigate the extreme outrage among the teachers of the Law as they completely understood the claims of Christ and rejected Him on the basis of these claims.

Rejected by men but chosen by God.Chosen states a type of subordination to God.God himself is subordinate to no one. I am not again saying that the word was created but that the man Jesus was created this is a hugely different thing. You have brought me to work through the theology that God has rattling around in my head.

 

God said see I (God) lay a chosen and precious cornerstone those who trust in him.As i pointed out many places where it says God in Christ.Not God as Christ.This I know is kind of like splitting hares.But when you say Lord and refer to Jesus this is your interpretation based upon the teaching you have had.The mindset of the foundational thinking which is not true to the foundation times of our religion.

 

Yes the Lord almighty causes us to stumble.His presence his spirit being within our Lord and savior.He is God and he is the savior.Our Lord again is the physical image of the invisible God.God within him not God as him again seemingly splitting of hares but important nonetheless.

 

When you make Christ God and seperate from the father you deminish the father.He is preminent in all things this is a major area that i feel the Church has moved from when they focused so much on our Lord.

 

John 14 6 Jesus said i am the way the truth and the life.No one comes to the father but through me.

 

Matthew 28 18 All authority was given to him in heaven and earth.

The direct reference here is that all things have been given,as someone had to give them to him, the father.

 

1 Corinthians 15 24-28 then comes the end when he delivers the kingdom to God the father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.The last enemy under his feet is death.For God has put all things in subjection under his feet.But when it says all things in subjection it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.Then the son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him that God may be all in all.

 

The teaching that was emphatic in Christiandom is begotten not made.The word begotten means procreate.The word procreate means to beget or to generate.To produce offspring.If in the beginning there was just God this mighty spirit being.He wanted to create so he generated of gave birth to the word.Since all things were God then this was God as well..It says one God who is above all through all and in you all.A spirit is different than anything we can relate to. How do you seperate a flame?

 

Roy my desire is to understand who and what is God.I try not to allow my own attitudes to stop me from seeing the truth no matter what it is.This discourse is helping me and i hope it is helping you.Remember we are looking at this from two different directions. I am looking at this as a Jew of the time, or the best i can.That they were monitheistic completely and totally.You have never looked at things through the eyes of a Jew and if you have I will admit i am wrong.This foundational thought make a huge difference.

I will be beginning to comment on His subordination in my next post. I think His subordinating Himself to the Father can be confusing until we see that He willing became subject to the Father for the greater cause. Jesus the man became subordinate. However, as I will point out in the next post, Jesus, Who in very nature was God, became man. That is what we cannot understand. How can God become a man? Yet, that is what the Word says He did. I am just about finished with that post and will put it up tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm not sure what my night here in Kansas is compared to your day and night where you are.

The Jews main focus is the father and this focus was more so in the beginning of our religion as well because the first christians were Jews.Remember Jesus was a Jew so was Paul and Peter and John Matthew and the majority of the deciples.They had a different viewpoint and that molded their thinking.

The first commandment is one they understood and obeyed it states that thou shalt have no God besides me  not have no other gods before me.The word gods is inserted and the word before  as well  this opens the door to lesser gods and the polytheism of the trinity .Our idea of monotheism and our idea of one God is obviously different if we follow the trinitarian theology.Three in one is still three its almost impossible for people to comprehend this and in their minds it becomes three gods not one God.

Looking at the concept of one God and the concept of monotheism and that God is a spirit being which the Jews believed as well, they said our God is an all consuming fire.Putting all this together as this would be their mindset, it only makes sense if the scripture is to be valid that the word came from within our God and not without.To come from without is more of a creation and we believe he is begotten and  not created.

 

As far as the Jewish mindset was concerned  the concept of within or without i dont think occupied their minds only that he would come and free them from the bondage they were in to the babylonians and others who they were in captivity.The concept of the messiah to the Jews is verry different than our understanding.They were looking more for a physical king we are looking for a spiritual king.They were looking for a literal freedom from bondage we found a spiritual freedom from the bondage of sin.

Father God is in Heaven with his Son Jesus Christ our Saviour, and Salvation. Yes, the Son Jesus Christ is alive, and was living with Abba Father God in Heaven before he came to the Earth (The World) as the only Begotten Son in the Flesh to save souls (spirits) from Hell. (Read The Powerful Scriptures-  1 Peter 1:20, John 17:5, John 17:24, Hebrews 1:2, Hebrews 1:10

(Read) The form of the fourth is like (the Son of God) (Notice in Daniel 3:25) this was in the Old Testament. Praise God! KJV

He is antichrist, that denieth the Father, and the Son.

1 John 2:22-23
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

1 John 4:3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2 John 1:7
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Abba Father God is in Heaven, and the Son Jesus Christ is alive, and Abba Father God is sending his son Jesus Christ to Rapture us...

One must never deny the Father, and the Son (The Lamb) and the Holy Ghost.

Abba FATHER, The SON JESUS CHRIST (The Lamb) and The HOLY GHOST! GODHEAD.

Comforter (Holy Ghost)

But the (Comforter) which is the (Holy Ghost) whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

But when the (Comforter) is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which (the Holy Ghost teacheth) comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Remember it's The Son Jesus Christ with the Book of Life, and Jesus is the one who will not blot out our names, and the Son Jesus Christ will Confess the names before Father God, and his Angels! (as Shared in Revelation 3:5)

(He that overcometh) the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of (the book of life) but I will confess his name (before my Father, and before his angels)

Notice the Scripture Revelation 3:21 shares (sit with me in (my) throne- The Son Jesus Christ) with (my Father in (his) throne)

To him that overcometh will (I grant to sit with me in (my) throne) even as I also overcame, and am set down with (my Father in (his) throne)

Revelation 7:10
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our (God which sitteth upon the throne) (and unto the Lamb)

Awsome that is outstanding that comes the closest to anything i believe.I could tweak it a little but this is 95% there for me.Just a little bit of flame to dwell in us because too much and we would go on fire.

Its funny in my life i have experienced times when i am overflowing with Gods might and spirit and other times i feel as dry as a sun drenched river bed.

God has worked mightily in my life and i know he has just begun.He has shown me his son more so through this site than in a long time.
