Hi Tom,

I want to know how many gods there are by your interpretation...
Are you saying there are 2 gods?

The bible teaches there is only 1 God made up of 3 persons which is the Trinity.
Hi Tom, (Fallen Angel)

You changed your name...why?

so then, if what you say is true..that the Trinity is not Truth then...

Why would Jesus send The Holy Spirit to us? John 16:7 and John 16:8
When the bible speaks of the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit, who is that referring to? Scripture is very clear that the 'Holy Spirit' is a 'who'

Tom, just because you don't understand the Trinity, it doesn't mean it's not true. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth.. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you are not being led into truth. John 16:13

Read John 16:5-15--Jesus teaches about the Holy Spirit.

Question: "Can monotheism be proven?"

Answer: The word “monotheism” comes from two words, “mono” meaning “single” and “theism” meaning “belief in God.” Specifically, monotheism is the belief in one true God who is the only creator, sustainer, and judge of all creation. Monotheism differs from “henotheism,” which is the belief in multiple gods with one supreme God over all. It is also opposed to polytheism, which is the belief in the existence of more than one god.

There are many arguments for monotheism, including those from special revelation (Scripture), natural revelation (philosophy), as well as historical anthropology. These will only be explained briefly below, and this should not in any way be considered an exhaustive list.

Biblical arguments for Monotheism - Deuteronomy 4:35: “You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides Him there is no other.” Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” Malachi 2:10a, “Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us?” 1 Corinthians 8:6: “Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” Ephesians 4:6: “One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” 1 Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” James 2:19: “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.”

Obviously, for many people, it wouldn’t suffice to simply say that there is only one God because the Bible says so. This is because without God there is no way to prove that the Bible is His Word in the first place. However, one might argue that since the Bible has the most reliable supernatural evidence confirming what it teaches, monotheism can be affirmed on these grounds. A similar argument would be the beliefs and teaching of Jesus Christ, who proved that He was God (or at the very least approved by God) by His miraculous birth, life, and the miracle of His resurrection. God cannot lie or be deceived; therefore, what Jesus believed and taught was true. Therefore, monotheism, which Jesus believed and taught, is true. This argument may not be very impressive to those unfamiliar with the case for the supernatural confirmations of Scripture and Christ, but this is a good place to start for one who is familiar with its strength.

Historical arguments for Monotheism - Arguments based on popularity are notoriously suspect, but it is interesting just how much monotheism has affected world religions. The popular evolutionary theory of religious development stems from an evolutionary view of reality in general, and the presupposition of evolutionary anthropology which sees “primitive” cultures as representing the earlier stages of religious development. But the problems with this evolutionary theory are several. 1) The kind of development it describes has never been observed; in fact, there seems to be no upward development toward monotheism within any culture—actually the opposite seems to be the case. 2) The anthropological method's definition of “primitive” equates to technological development, yet this is hardly a satisfactory criterion as there are so many components to a given culture. 3) The alleged stages are often missing or skipped. 4) Finally, most polytheistic cultures show vestiges of monotheism early in their development.

What we find is a monotheistic God who is personal, masculine, lives in the sky, has great knowledge and power, created the world, is the author of a morality to which we are accountable, and whom we have disobeyed and are thus estranged from, but who has also provided a way of reconciliation. Virtually every religion carries a variation of this God at some point in its past before devolving into the chaos of polytheism. Thus, it seems that most religions have begun in monotheism and “devolved” into polytheism, animism, and magic—not vice versa. (Islam is a very rare case, having come full circle back into a monotheistic belief.) Even with this movement, polytheism is often functionally monotheistic or henotheistic. It is a rare polytheistic religion which does not hold one of its gods as sovereign over the rest, with the lesser gods only functioning as intermediaries.

Philosophical/Theological arguments for Monotheism - There are many philosophical arguments for the impossibility of there being more than one God in existence. Many of these depend a great deal on one’s metaphysical position concerning the nature of reality. Unfortunately, in an article this short it would be impossible to argue for these basic metaphysical positions and then go on to show what they point to regarding monotheism, but rest assured that there are strong philosophical and theological grounds for these truths that go back millennia (and most are fairly self-evident). Briefly, then, here are three arguments one might choose to explore:

1. If there were more than one God, the universe would be in disorder because of multiple creators and authorities, but it is not in disorder; therefore, there is only one God.

2. Since God is a completely perfect being, there cannot be a second God, for they would have to differ in some way, and to differ from complete perfection is to be less than perfect and not be God.

3. Since God is infinite in His existence, He cannot have parts (for parts cannot be added to reach infinity). If God’s existence is not just a part of Him (which it is for all things which can have existence or not), then He must have infinite existence. Therefore, there cannot be two infinite beings, for one would have to differ from the other.

Someone may wish to argue that many of these would not rule out a sub-class of “gods,” and that is fine. Although we know this to be untrue biblically, there is nothing wrong with it in theory. In other words, God could have created a sub-class of “gods,” but it just happens to be the case that He did not. If He had, these “gods” would only be limited, created things—probably a lot like angels (Psalm 82). This does not hurt the case for monotheism, which does not say that there cannot be any other spirit beings—only that there cannot be more than one God.

Question: "What are the names and titles of the Holy Spirit?"

Answer: The Holy Spirit is known by many names and titles, most of which denote some function or aspect of His ministry. Below are some of the names and descriptions the Bible uses for the Holy Spirit.

Author of Scripture: (2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16) The Bible is inspired, literally “God-breathed” by the Holy Spirit, the second Person of the Trinity. The Spirit moved the authors of all 66 books to record exactly what He breathed into their hearts and minds. As a ship is moved through the water by wind in its sails, so the biblical writers were borne along by the Spirit’s impulse.

Comforter / Counselor / Advocate: (Isaiah 11:2; John 14:16, 15:26, 16:7) All three words are translations of the Greek parakletos, from which we get Paraclete, another name for the Spirit. When Jesus went away, His disciples were greatly distressed because they had lost His comforting presence. But He promised to send the Spirit to comfort, console, and guide those who belong to Christ. He also “bears witness” to our spirits that we belong to Him, and thereby assures us of salvation.

Convicter of sin: (John 16:7-11) The Spirit applies the truths of God to men’s own minds in order to convince them by fair and sufficient arguments that they are sinners. He does this through the conviction in our hearts that we are not worthy to stand before a holy God, that we need His righteousness, and that judgment is certain and will come to all men one day. Those who deny these truths rebel against the conviction of the Spirit.

Deposit / Seal / Earnest: (2 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5; Ephesians 1:13-14) The Holy Spirit is God’s seal on His people, His claim on us as His very own. The gift of the Spirit to believers is a down payment on our heavenly inheritance, which Christ has promised us and secured for us at the cross. It is because the Spirit has sealed us that we are assured of our salvation. No one can break the seal of God.

Guide: (John 16:13) Just as the Spirit guided the writers of Scripture to record truth, so does He promise to guide believers to know and understand that truth. God’s truth is “foolishness” to the world, because it is “spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). Those who belong to Christ have the indwelling Spirit who guides us to the knowledge of all we need to know in regard to spiritual matters. Those who do not belong to Christ have no “interpreter” to guide them to know and understand God’s Word.

Indweller of Believers: (Romans 8:9-11; Ephesians 2:21-22; 1 Corinthians 6:19) The Holy Spirit resides in the hearts of God’s people, and that indwelling is the distinguishing characteristic of the regenerated person. From within believers, He directs, guides, comforts, and influences us, as well as producing in us the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). He provides the intimate connection between God and His children. All true believers in Christ have the Spirit residing in their hearts.

Intercessor: (Romans 8:26) One of the most encouraging and comforting aspects of the Holy Spirit is His ministry of intercession on behalf of those He inhabits. Because we often don’t know what or how to pray when we approach God, the Spirit intercedes and prays for us. He interprets our “groanings,” so that when we are oppressed and overwhelmed by trials and the cares of life, He comes alongside to lend assistance as He sustains us before the throne of grace.

Revealer / Spirit of Truth: (John 14:17, 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:12-16) Jesus promised that after the Resurrection, the Holy Spirit would come to “guide you into all truth.” Because of the Spirit in our hearts, we are able to understand truth, especially in spiritual matters, in a way that non-Christians cannot. In fact, the truth the Spirit reveals to us is “foolishness” to them, and they cannot understand it. But we have the mind of Christ in the Person of His Spirit within us.

Spirit of God / the Lord / Christ: (Matthew 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; 1 Peter 1:11) These names remind us that the Spirit of God is indeed part of the triune godhead and that He is just as much God as the Father and the Son. He is first revealed to us at the creation, when He was “hovering over the waters,” denoting His part in creation, along that of Jesus who “made all things” (John 1:1-3). We see this same trinity of God again at Jesus’ baptism, when the Spirit descends on Jesus and the voice of the Father is heard.

Spirit of Life: (Romans 8:2) The phrase “Spirit of life” means the Holy Spirit is the one who produces or gives life, not that He initiates salvation, but rather that He imparts newness of life as opposed to the Law, which according to Romans 7, produces death and condemnation. When we receive eternal life through Christ, the Spirit provides the spiritual food that is the sustenance of the spiritual life. Here again we see the triune God at work. We are saved by the Father through the work of the Son, and that salvation is sustained by the Holy Spirit.

Teacher: (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:13) Jesus promised that the Spirit would teach His disciples “all things” and bring to their remembrance the things He said while He was with them. The writers of the New Testament were moved by the Spirit to remember and understand the instructions Jesus gave for the building and organizing of the Church, the doctrines regarding Himself, the directives for holy living, and the revelation of things to come.

Witness: (Romans 8:16; Hebrews 2:4, 10:15) The Spirit is called “witness” because He verifies and testifies to the fact that we are children of God, that Jesus and the disciples who performed miracles were sent by God, and that the books of the Bible are divinely inspired and authored. Further, by giving the gifts of the Spirit to believers, He witnesses to us and the world that we belong to God.

Tom, you asked this question and then answered it yourself:
Why do so many christians leave the faith and seek alternatives? I guess because it's precisely for these reasons they have something more tangible than a mysterious triune God.
I would like to answer your question. 'christians' have left the faith and have looked for other alternatives for various reasons...
1) It is probable that they were never Christians to begin with...
Jhn 3:7 "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
and...
1Jo 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not {really} of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but {they went out,} so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

2) Perhpas they are (were) trying to live the Christian life by (in) their own strength... You cannot! It is only by the Power of God!

Blessings, Carla
Hi Paula,
What ever is written in the Old Testament (Torah) and the New Testament is sound doctrine, of that there can be no doubt.

One may experience problems in defining clearly what is in the mind and thoughts, or even say the same thing as the Bible, but simply say it differently.
But what usually happens when more than one person gives an opinion you are going to find differences of thought even violations of the truth. Therefore it is always best to go back to the source, namely the Old and New Testaments. They are absolute and NEVER change and NEVER contradicts itself.
Have a great day and be blessed right out of your socks.
Ron.
That is amazing, Fallen. YOU do know some of the story! So nice of you to share so that we may build on what you know.
Jesus never LOST any divinity when He was resurrected. Jesus chose to give his physical life for us, to be the blood sacrifice for us. He volunteered to do that, so great is His love for us. When He was resurrected, He was the first of all that are the Children of God. The bible says He (Jesus) was with God. the Father from the beginning. So I have to disagree with the word "evolved".

You said that The Holy Spirit is incomprehensible to the human mind. I do think He is incomprehensible to the UNSAVED mind, but there are many who have and who continue to comprehend Him and His position in the Godhead.

I have a way that I used to explain the Trinity to myself and to others who would ask for an explanation of the Trinity for understanding.

I think of a company. The Trinity. God.
CEO-Father
Board-Jesus
Workers- Spirit

Or The Trinity- One God-One Body
Father-Thinker-Mind
Jesus- Speaker-Mouth
Spirit-Doer-Arms and legs

JesusChrist holds the position of King of kings and Lord of lords because of His sacrifice for us on the cross. There will come a time in eternity future when he will resume His position in the Godhead but for now, He is King of kings and Lord of lords. His position is His because in future he will defeat Satan, enemy to all. As Satan is put in the lake of fire, so will evil be defeated.

If I have one prayer for you, Fallen, it will be that God grant you a thirst for His Word, that you study it and grow in it.

History may be manipulated through what man desires us to know, but the Word that was given thousands of years ago can't be manipulated because of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Christians believe through the Holy Spirit. I pray that you would not reject Him as He woos you to the truth. In Jesus" Name...
31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he(FATHER) who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He (JESUS)on whom you see the Spirit (HOLY SPIRIT)descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
The Holy Bible : English Standard Version. Wheaton : Standard Bible Society, 2001, S. Jn 1:30-34

There are numerous other verses that explain all 3 persons of the God Head (Trinity) but you need to search them out for yourself.
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

The Holy Bible : English Standard Version. Wheaton : Standard Bible Society, 2001, S. Jn 16:6-15

31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
The Holy Bible : English Standard Version. Wheaton : Standard Bible Society, 2001, S. Ac 9:31
This proves to me that the Holy Spirit is sent to all saved.

I think the biggest down fall for you, Fallen, is that you don't study the Bible. You study what mortal man says about the Bible. You really need to study the real thing, not what another, possibly unsaved person, has to say about it.

Education is a valuable took, but wisdom is so much more valuable, a gift of God that I fear you are greatly lacking in.

The Bible says that all are brought to the Father by the wooing of the Holy Spirit. If you can't accept His wooing, there is no salvation left to you.
Tom,
Please.... What books are you reading and who are the publishers and authors?
This may give us some idea of what your talking about.
Ron
Fallen angel/ Tom you say the following:

Jesus died and was buried in the tomb for three days, if God the Father didn't resurrect Jesus on the third day then that would have been the end of our savior. God the Father, the supreme God being has complete control and power over everyone and everything.

Below (specially the bold portion) your statement is proven wrong with scripture and not mere opinions, as you are doing again. Your opinions and logic, which has been shaped by false teaching, cannot stand before the truth..

God the Father, God Jesus and God the Holy Spirit are one in three persons.

Where we read, “God raised Jesus,” we should certainly take this as a reference to God the Father. This emphasizes a number of things. First, it is the God to whom Jesus cried, and into whose hands Jesus committed his Spirit, who raised him from the dead. In Matthew 27:43, we read of the chief priests mocking Jesus: “He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, 'I am the Son of God.’” By the resurrection, Jesus’ claims regarding his relationship as Son to the Father were proved to be true, and God the Father was proved to be faithful to all who trust in him. Moreover, Peter could say, “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree” (Acts 5:30), so that the resurrection was a proof that the Old Testament is fulfilled by the risen Christ.

The Bible also ascribes Christ’s resurrection to Jesus’ own power as Second Person of the Godhead. This is in keeping with the power he claimed to Martha at the tomb of Lazarus: “I am the resurrection and the life” (Jn. 11:25). Jesus said in John 10:17-18, “I lay down my life that I may take it up again… I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” Hebrews 7:16 says that Jesus lives for ever because he possesses “the power of an indestructible life.” The point is that being the ever-living divine Son, the Alpha and Omega, death could not hold Jesus, and therefore death cannot hold those who belong to Jesus in faith. John 2:19-22 says this: "Jesus answered and said unto them, destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body.

Lastly, there are references to the Holy Spirit raising Jesus from the dead. Romans 1:4 says that Jesus “was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead” (Rom. 1:4). More blatantly, Romans 8:11 says, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” The point is made evident right there, that the Spirit’s work in our lives is analogous to his work in raising Jesus from the dead. To be born again by the Spirit, is to experience a spiritual resurrection.

This ends up providing a useful lesson in Trinitarian theology, namely, that in the work of any member of the Trinity, the other two members are always intimately involved. Everything the Trinity does is done by all of the Trinity. Surely, in the case of the resurrection of Christ, the great preponderance of references speaks of God the Father as the leading actor. But the Son and the Spirit were also responsible in the resurrection, just as all three divine Persons are actively involved in our spiritual rebirth and on-going sanctification, which is our first resurrection, just as they will together conspire to ensure our second and final resurrection on the great day to come. To all Three be glory
Tom,

Do you really believe that the Bible teaches that only the 120 in the upper room received the Holy Spirit? Please read the Bible.

Remember it's The Son Jesus Christ with the Book of Life, and Jesus is the one who will not blot out our names, and the Son Jesus Christ will Confess the names before Father God, and his Angels! (as Shared in Revelation 3:5)

Revelation 3:5
(He that overcometh) the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of (the book of life) but I will confess his name (before my Father, and before his angels)

ABBA Father God is sending his son Jesus Christ to Rapture us...

In my Fathers House

John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John 14:28
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Notice the Scripture Revelation 3:21 shares (sit with me in (my) throne- The Son Jesus Christ) with (my Father in (his) throne)

Revelation 3:21
To him that overcometh will (I grant to sit with me in (my) throne) even as I also overcame, and am set down with (my Father in (his) throne)

Revelation 7:10
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our (God which sitteth upon the throne) (and unto the Lamb)

Let me answer the points backwards:

Arian is proven wrong by scripture. No more debate need be held about that. That case was closed appropriately and the only people continuing to reopen are those who wish to deny scripture in some form or another. You may judge that case also by it's fruits and find that the Arian case is generally taken up by those who wish to change the substance of Christianity into an un-Christlike form.

As for the "what is the take on the Trinity" question: Holmes rule applies. When you have proven every other notion as impossible, the remaining condition/case, no matter how improbable or difficult to understand, must be the truth.

We lack sufficient depth and breadth and length and height of wisdom and knowledge to fully grasp God. If we could do so, we would be God. We live in a finite form, so judging the infinite is not even close to possible.

Jesus is not the Father (so your Fry dilemma is not relevant). The Father is not the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Son. This much is clear from ALL writings by the Apostles, and the statements of Jesus. Equally clear is that all three accept worship, and each admonishes worship of the other two. However, worship of created beings/things is totally forbidden.

Three "parts" would not be the correct concept, but rather 3 persons. One God/Deity/substance yet three distinct persons. After deeply studying this for more than two decades, I cannot say I "understand" the nature of God. However, I know that the Bible clearly teaches Trinitarian concepts. Not Modes, not division of substance.

Therefore, of the three options presented at Nicea, I believe that the council was led by the Spirit and correctly chose the Trinitarian understanding, while rejecting the other two options.

Simply put, if either of the other two options are true, then God is not true Deity, not truly God.

Grazer, you seem too clever to get your theology from a cartoon.
