All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

We are losing the power of words and their deeper understanding. In many circles today we are being told to stop using some terms that have been associated with Christianity that help define our understanding regarding Biblical truth. The argument that is offered is that these terms turn people off, or that they do not understand them. (For clarity, when I said “power” we are not talking life changing power, that is Jesus’ work. I am talking the power to communicate effectively and clearly).

If they do not understand these words, then teach them the depth of the meaning of the term. If it turns them off, then they are rejecting the truths regarding Jesus and His work in our life. When will we stop trying to reinvent the wheel?

I wonder? If we walk like the world, talk like the world, think like the world and act like the world are we not of the world? Are we not called to be different? Some will say that I do not need to know these words. If you want to walk in your Christian faith, you may not need to know the word (though I think you should) you better understand what they mean. These relate to the basic principles of life in Christ.

Here are some of the words I refer to. Take a minute and look at the list and see if you know what they mean, or have you been missing the beauty found in these terms:

Repentance
Justification
Regeneration
Salvation
Sanctification
The Blood of Christ (Not listed in all dictionary)
Sin
Judgment
Discipline (see Chastisement)
Redemption
Substitutionary Sacrifice (Not listed in all dictionary)
Righteousness
Holiness
Incarnation
Apocalypse

There are other words, but this is a quick list I came up with. I purposely did not define them here. Find a good Bible dictionary and research them and be blessed by what you learn if you are unfamiliar with these terms. And, oh yeah, don’t skip over the Scripture verses that the Bible dictionary will use to substantiate what they mean. Go to God’s Word and see what the Bible says regarding these issues. Jewels discovered are better than the ones handed to you on a platter.

Comments are welcomed. If you research it, share what you learn. If you agree with me regarding give a Hoo Rah. If you don't agree, explain why.

Lord Bless,
LT

Hoo Rah – all day, every day about this brother. Excellent topic

Just a couple of other important words.

Atonement
The reconciliation between God and people brought about by the death of Jesus Christ

Hebrews 2:17
For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Propitiation
To appease or pacify somebody or something.

Romans 3:25
whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,

Doctrine
A rule or principle that forms the basis of a belief,

2 Timothy 3:16 (New King James Version)
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

I had brothers tell me that some of the words on your list are not in the bible. Man! I almost.... back slid haha

Blessings
David,

Good words indeed. Almost backslid ... good thing you are anchored :-)

Just a quick question why is it so hard to teach kids now and days the new terms for such things?? every generation has a language that is captivating and more people will come into the light and then they will dive in deeper to understand the meaning of the word to search and learn for themselves ....shine in all possible ways for the will of God

no need to comment on this just a thought for readers
in all loving kindness
this is by no means to devalue any words at all
<3 :)
As the father of nine (yes, nine), I say it is not getting harder to teach these terms and concepts to children. However, if they are exposed to television, popular radio, modern books, the internet, computer fantasies, and non-christian video games, we must expose them to these true words earlier, and earlier, and earlier, or take them "out" of the world as earlier as possible. The terms of the world, the images of the world, tailored by the world to the children born today, harden and innoculate children to true fantasy and true mythology as young as possible. The Bible, in modern translations that do not dilute the Word of God, must be fed to children; they must be soaked in it, as young as possible (age 3 -three- is not too young!!). Then they grow up, ready by the age of eight (8), or younger, to know the meaning of the real dragon, real darkness, real witches, real death; defeated by real "spells" of Truth, the Real (Royal) Blood, Regeneration through the Water and the Blood, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, Michael defeating the serpent, the Seed of the Woman crushing his head for the Salvation of mankind, etc. Seek new words to your peril and the peril of your offspring. Cling to these Words in a modern retelling of the same true "myths" until the end of days when the Prince of Peace will split the skies and all of those who have been propogating new mind-numbing spells will shriek and flee with the darkness into the kindom of the lie that seeks to propogate itself in each generation in new images and new sounds.
Good point bro and you are blessed with a large family I am of 6 originally of 10 due to miscarriages but tis good we are all blessed in the Lord

Aside from that note....

if I am trying to talk to a person not familiar with the bible and I start saying words like

be atoned, get sanctified, regeneration is good, sin no more, its an apocalypse, you are judged, saved by the Blood of Christ, be chastised, repent..........

How will I captivate a person into Christ with words of the unknown to a seeker who is dying in need of our Savior Jesus Christ

Now if I must I will carry all these words to heart to break each one down to save a life and bring them into the light of God however time is limited and so I use it wisely. Maybe I should carry little sheets of these words everywhere so that when i meet people they may learn them on their own as study into their new life in Christ.

Bro everything serves a purpose in its timing we must let people learn on their own we cannot explain everything and give every word for Christ in them their must be growth for their own experience give them liberty to learn to grow to search it in themselves to exercise their minds. Be intellectual to allow others to grow in intellect. Be responsible enough to know how much to provide and when to stop before there is an overload.

Nonetheless words and all words are powerful so use them righteously and know how and when to use them. Know when to break them down and trust that Jesus in you know what is best for Gods will to be done in another person that you speak to. Be steadfast in your language and be faithful and obedient and let the Holy Spirit lead

keep an open safe guarded mind that God is watching and that he knows what to do and how to do it through you and remember that you are not in the sight of it all but God sees it all. Amen

Trust in God that all that is done all that is heard and all that will be done is and was in HIS control.

Nothing but love and kindness in the Lord take no offense in this comment :) <3

I hope all who read this may be blessed in the Lord to grow in wisdom :) <3
