Pericope Adulterae: In or Out?

We've discussed some the textual foundations upon which rest different Bible versions.
Earliest reference to the beloved story of the woman taken into adultery is late 4th/early 5th century. It doesn't appear in Bibles before that.
Should this passage be in the NIV?
With it bracketed in the NIV is it really "in" anyhow?
In the NIV deletion thread, David described "inerrancy" as applying to the original texts. Does that thus, make this passage other than inerrant Scripture?
Thoughts?
I'm interested in hearing various perspectives.

A mix of honesty and humility concerning one's own knowledge.
BTW, I've read most of Strobel's books and at least McDowell's classic work. I'm not too big of fan of either honestly but if I had to pick between just the two, I prefer Strobel over McDowell.

I found both beneficial regarding content. Their styles were different and I found McDowell's book "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" a hard read. "Beyond Faith to Conviction" is a easier read.

This is a very interesting topic to which I have given a lot of study, thought, and prayer. First I would like to mention that an EARLIER manuscript may not necessarily be a MORE ACCURATE manuscript. It may simply be an earlier manuscript that was copied with an omission, or that was copied from a manuscript that did not repeat all of the information that was available from all sources. However, I think the more important point is: Do we trust the Omniscient, Omnipotent GOD to get the right information to the people who need to hear it. HE is not surprised by what has arrived in our Bibles, and He is not saying, "O doggone it, THAT isn't what I wanted the Gospel of John to say for thos folks!" THE MESSAGE of the whole Bible is JESUS who is the Reconciliatory Love of God given to Men. I think that message has been getting around wherever God wanted it to go, with or without complete Bibles, even to illiterate people, for 1977 years.
