All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Can someone tell me what this verse means. Is this in literal sense that you must not love your parents?

No it means you must put God first in all you do, nothing should come before God, seek first the kingdom of God and all things will be added unto you.
Thank you very much Kerwin. I must confess that the verse scared me but now I understand waht it means....GOD BLESS.and thank you
Hello ML and thank you for the blessings. Thank you for the explaination. Yes I can see how it balances out now...God needs to come first in our lives I agree. All the things we have were engineered by him in the first place. He new that I will be on earth before I was even in my mother's womb. Thank you I must say that whoever created this sight did a very good job.
"Anyone who comes to me but refuses to let go of father, mother, spouse, children, brothers, sisters--yes, even one's own self!--can't be my disciple. Anyone who won't shoulder his own cross and follow behind me can't be my disciple."
Luke 14:26-27 [Message]

The context is Jesus is in Jerusalem, and crowds were gathering around Him, wondering if He was the Messiah. Many probably wanted to be His disciples, and so Jesus tells them the true cost of discipleship. His point is that however natural and fulfilling earthly connections might seem, they can and will be used by the enemy to attack. As one bishop put it "if we are to get into Heaven we must leave all of hell behind, every hair and feather".
I don`t know really
Basically all it means is that you hate thier sin not them, after all why would you be asked to Love your neighbor as you would yourself but then be told to hate your parents?
