All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Did Christ Jesus die for every individual person, or for those who shall inherit eternal life?
Does it make much of a difference what we believe about this?

From the human perspective it depends on whether we look at the offer or the application. In the end the blood is only applied to those who come to Him by grace through faith and are saved.

Lord Bless,

LT

Therein lies the bottom line.

In a word, everyone. His sacrifice was a gift but not everyone will accept that gift.

For Jenny. Jesus died for Jenny.

Since knowing another's heart is not possible, it doesn't matter what you personally believe about the atonement -- whether it's limited or unlimited. IMO. Even if it is limited, none of us would be able to know who is among the elect and therefore we must treat all as if Jesus died for all. I personally believe the atonement is unlimited. But like that night in Egypt when the blood of the lamb was applied to the doorposts, the blood must be spilled but it must also be applied. Exodus 12:7. Also, the lamb was eaten. The teaching of Jesus in John 6:47-51 is a hard teaching and many turned away from Him after hearing it. Many still do.

Many Disciples Desert Jesus

60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[e] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” 71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)

Amanda,

Excellent word Amanda. I believe it does matters, if we believe it to be limited or unlimited for personal edification, but for an evangelistic purpose it doesn't, though for me, believing that there are some who will believe/the elect gives me a sense of comfort, knowing that mostlilkely my efforts will see a harvest. For there are those who most certainly will believe :)

Hmmm ... Knucklehead or hammerhead? Which is it? Knucklehead is defined as the human brain being relative in size to a human knuckle. Hammerhead is defined as one who is slow in grasping an idea or comment even after quite a lot of hammering. That's a tough one. Lol

PS I'm talking about me. Too, that is.

hahaha :) it had to be you, it had to be you.... :) hehe I am singing the song, you know, the it had to be you song... oh wait that is a worldly song haha

Worldly music? Oh, you mean like Simple Minds singing Don't You Forget About Me ... Except being a knucklehead that will be difficult for you not to do. Lol
Ironic, huh?

i was thinking that no one had responded to this question because i didn't get any email notifications, so was like, "hm, i guess the Lord didn't want anyone to reply to my question". what a surprise to see there's been a healthy discourse going on here. thanks everyone for sharing and explaining, there's lots in here to chew on for a while.
