The Parting of the Ways

Introduction

... The split between Judaism and Christianity was gradual and happened at different rates in different places. There is remarkably little agreement among scholars as to what precisely caused the rift and estimates vary about the date, from the middle of the first century CE to the middle of the fourth CE.

Professor Alan Crown from Sydney goes beyond the reserve of most scholars and dates "the parting of the ways" to the Council of Nicaea 325 CE, a date which I accept. The Council of Nicaea was called by the Emperor Constantine to settle some theological differences that were dividing his Christian Empire. The first act of the three hundred bishops assembled was to set a date for Easter distinct from the Jewish Passover thereby effectively separating Jews and Christians. Amen, Rita.

I like history :)

Someone has said that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior ... I think it is a Dr. Phil quote! Lol

Rita:

   God is not yet done with unbelieving Israel, according to the promises of God.

   The current rapture theory, popularized in the 1800 was promoted before Israel was regathered in the 1940s, by people who thought the prophecies about Israel's regathering would not occur.

The Rapture theory says that God's prophecies to "Israel" the  "Apple of His Eye" will not be restored from death, and resurrected to life, that this promise of God will not occur, and that the Genile church has replaced it.   It is pure "Replacement Theology".    God's promises to make a "New Covenant" with the House of Israel and the House of Judah.  This has not occured as yet, but will because God cannot lie.  Men however can mis interpret His word.

Ann,

When you say the current rapture theory, which one are you speaking of? The Bible teaches a catching away of the saints at the last trumpet sound along with the resurrection of the dead in Christ. I have believed for about forty years, now, that the last trumpet was the 7th trumpet in Revelation. When do you believe the rapture will take place. I personally believe the rapture and the resurrection are synonymous.

Roy:
   Please explain.  You believe that at the 7th Trump, the dead will rise and those alive will go to heaven immediately at that time?

    What text says that they will go into heaven with Christ rather than returning to earth?

   The following site explains the current teaching on the "secret rapture" as being recent:

Origin of the Secret Rapture Theory
http://www.hope-of-israel.org/p240.htm

1 Co 15:51-53
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. (emphasis mine)

1 Th 4:14-18
14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words. NIV'

These are the more obvious ones. I can give you much more if you want. The marriage supper of the Lamb takes place somewhere. Jesus went to prepare us a place. He is going to return and those who belong to Him will be caught up to meet Him in the air. The wise will go out to meet Him. The foolish will be left behind. One will be taken, the other will be left.

Mt 24:30-31
And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. NLT

When you read about the marriage of the Lamb in Revelations, you are transported to a scene in heaven. It is around the throne of God. There is only one place I know of where His throne is. Blessed are those who are invited to this blessed event. After this, Jesus comes back to earth. I'm not sure how many will be left after He returns but I think some will. He gathers them together and judges them. I'm really not sure about some of the events when He returns but I am sure that we will be taken off this earth to meet Him in the air and then go to the throne room of God for a very grand event. I'm not sure how much time will expire between the two events but at that time for us time will be no more. We have at that time entered into eternity.

Roy:
    Where in your eschatololgy do you place the reply of the "angel"  in-

Acts 1:
[9] And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
[10] And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
[11] Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Angel stated that Jesus was coming back just like He left.   There was no indication that
His pattern of return was to be any different than His departure.
When He ascended, He went straight up from the Mount of Olves, His return undoubtedly will be just the same, when His feet will return to place His feet once again after the "final battle" for Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives, as the Angel had said:
Zech 14:1 - 4
1   Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2  For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3  Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
***4  And his feet shall stand in that day upon the *mount of Olives* ***which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
At the resurrection, at the last trumpet sound, the dead in Christ shall rise, those alive in Him will be caught up with them to meet Him in the air. This is not His second return. As I mentioned I am not sure how long we will be with Him in heaven at that time. It might only be days but certainly long enough to have the wedding. After that He returns in the clouds where every eye will behold Him.
Some believe that the wedding will take place in the air and all will see the activity from below. I'm not sure about that because the throne room is mentioned. When Jesus returns, it will not be in silent. The world's heart will melt. I imagine an army surrounding Jerusalem that will be totally destroyed. I do not see a great mass of Jews left but just a remnant.
Rv 19:11-17
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords. NLT
At the conclusion of the battle, those left will be gathered before Him. I think this might be the sheep/goat judgment but not sure. I don't see the sheep/goat judgment as being one for the saints.
It does appear that there are prophecies yet to be fulfilled for the nation of Israel. As I mentioned to LT, I don't think the Jews should all count on being left here at that time. I think we need to do all we can now to get them saved. However, it is quite possible that a certain amount of Jews will be saved at the end of the tribulation. When the saints are gone, it appears that Satan will turn his attention again to the annihilation of the Jews. I think he will succeed almost in getting that done. Then again, there may be a great mass of them turning to Jesus after the resurrection. He is their Lord. Why won't they turn to Him? Why do they continue in their stubbornness and unrepentance?  I pray for and support missions to Israel now.
Today, God has a people. They are called the saints of the most high God. They are the servants of God. He is their Shepherd. He will gather them all to Himself and carry them home. All who seek Him and turn to Him shall be saved. Part of the branches have been broken off and others have been grafted in. This represents God's family. It is the true Israel and every single one destined for salvation shall be saved. Yet, there is a physical Israel that does appear to remain at least into the millennium. Who knows, maybe even beyond that. However, will these live forever? If not, where do they go when they die? Is there another resurrection that we just cannot see? What will happen to those who survive the Great White Throne Judgment?At the end of the 1000 years, the rest of the dead are resurrected. If they are not found in the book of life, they are cast into the lake of fire. Will any be found in the book of life? Will there be a method for some to be saved during the millennium? These are things I can't figure out. What I do know is, "Today, is the day of salvation."
When Satan is bound for the 1000 years, will it be possible to live without sin? What about the sin nature? What we do know is that Jesus came to destroy the power of death. Death will be cast into hell. I don't really think there will be death in eternity. I'm just not sure how that will happen. I am convinced God has a plan and that His plan is absolutely correct. The plan that is revealed to us is His plan for all those who turn to Jesus now. That is all that we can be sure of. What happens after the resurrection is somewhat speculation. I do tend to agree with you in that there are prophecies in the Old Testament referring to the physical nation of Israel that appear to be futuristic. Sometimes I do wonder if some of them are being fulfilled by the children of God. I do believe the promises to Abraham will come to pass through the children of God and those are the ones that accept Christ. I cannot say there is any other way to salvation. I wouldn't count on anything other than that. Jesus is the only way we know of for sure to be saved from all that is coming. I know that the death of a hundred year old person in the millennium (apparently the millennium) is spoke of as a death of a child. I still would put my full faith in Jesus and in Him alone.
Ann, I see I got to rambling and did not answer your question. I believe when Jesus returns to the earth, He will set His feet on the Mt. of Olives and destroy the nations gathered to completely destroy Israel. I think the coming that the angel spoke of was Jesus' return in the air to get His people. I don't see His feet as touching down at that time. However, this may only be a few weeks before His return to the earth where He does set His foot down and I mean that literally. We will be with Him when He does that. We are coming with Him to rule and reign for 1000 years. It will all be good to them that believe.
I see His second coming in two parts: 1) the resurrection and 2) His literal return to the earth.
Roy:
   Regarding your statement above about the "marrage and the marriage supper", the parable of the 10 virgins in Matt. 25, tells us that the bride groom is returning, to get the 5 virgins, and they do not go back to where the bride groom comes from.    They stay where the bride is, indicated by those 5 who did not make it in the doork being able to be near where the "wedding" is but are
"just outside of it", with only a door in between.
So the"marriage" and "marriage supper" initiating the kindom of heaven, is where the bride is, not where the groom came from:
Matthew 25
 1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
 2And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
 3They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
 4But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
 5While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
 6And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
 7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
 8And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
 9But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
 10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
 11Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
 12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
~~~~~~~~

The word "meet" in vs 6, in the Greek, if I can recall, indicates meeting a dignitary coming to visit, and esscourting him into your town.  (Just like you meet someone at the airport who is coming to visit you. )  Not them meeting to return with him to where he came from.

Ann, I'm not sure what you are saying here. Please clarify your remarks. Are you saying the marriage supper is here on the earth?

Ann,

The link you provided is one view among many and nothing new. The article is an attempt by one holding a different view to disprove or discredit another's view. That too is nothing new.
