All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I need to hear from members on AAG, what they understand by the terms "Body"  "Soul"  and "Spirit"  Let's look forward to a lively discussion as to your impression and beliefs on the subject.

"Do men and women possess three entities, namely a "Body" that possesses a "Soul" and a "Spirit"?

A firm understanding of having a spirit, soul and body makes the Word of God become more alive for me.

The spirit is made perfect in salvation. It doesn't sin once we're saved. Most of the information dealing with sin are speaking to the response of our souls and yet so many don't realize that the spirit isn't included. If we have no way to understand our spirit except through Spirit, and we can't see us without sin, we aren't witnessing the transformation of our souls to agree with that perfect Spirit within us.

Our spirit is led by the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.

Our souls try to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit but are strongly influenced by our bodies and it's craving to do certain things. In my opinion our bodies are weak vessels led by senses, hearing, tasting smelling, feeling, seeing. Our soul translates these senses in preference to what the body craves. However, through our mind (soul) renewal, our soul has the power to either give further strength to these feelings or to ignore them and cause the body to do the same. An example would be...smelling a cake baking. You want a slice of it but you are on a diet that you shouldn't go off of. Therefore your mind has to convince your body not to eat the cake. When your mind does this, you can be content to either just smell the cake, or ignore the cake and smell completely. Perfect renewal means that you can smell the cake without hungering for a slice of it. Seeing a beautiful person and lusting for them or seeing them and and admiring their appearance without lustful thoughts entering your mind. Hearing a crude remark and ignoring it. Lust is a difficult sin because all the senses or tied to it. WE need to tame that sin immediately.

Once we get this soul of ours into right thinking with the Holy Spirit, we are able to understand the deeper things.

One might think that would be as far as we go....but then we can really *see* who we are in Christ. We can better understand all that He has left for us.

I actually read posts on AAG and *grade* them in accordance to what I believe regarding spirit, soul, body. When I do that, I can tell whether I need to comment or not. If I ignore what I know, I am not received well and most will say I'm on the wrong track. Actually, I'm on a track that they can't understand because they can't *see* what I'm saying because they haven't gotten a basic down yet...the basic about spirit, soul, body.

Rita

Hi Rita,

Thank you for your input.  Those who judge you,  need to be aware of what they themselves understand about a Triune Being.  Be fully confident of this fact.  The Lord has promised: "And you shall seek me and find me, when you shall seek me with all your heart" Jer 29:13  The God I know keeps His promise because He is a God that Cannot lie.

I know too that the force that is driving you is the desire of your heart to know Him.  Read Luke 13:19 - 26 and in this parable, exchange the desire to gain wealth to the desire to gain knowledge about God as you are doing now, in order to please God.  let this force continue to drive you and you will be wll rewarded on that day when you place your report on the Throne.

The problem we are facing is, that one needs to be fully aware of what our driving force is.  Be it the Spirit or the Soul.

Without a doubt, It is the Body that will eventually pay the price or gain the benefit.

Have a great day.

Your Brother in Christ.

Ron.

Rita,

Agreed on the Spirit, Soul and Body. So often wrong doctrine arise from faulty foundations. The foundation has to be solid before one can move on to the deeper teachings with understanding.

Thank you both, Ron and LT, for responding.

Learning about body, soul , spirit is an on going process as well as learning mind renewal. We too often base our findings on what others say and not what we, ourselves, experience. I know that I am attempting to learn from my own actions whether I am moving in the right direction or not. That isn't to say I can't learn from another, but we need to perfect ourselves first. (Something like the log in our eye compared to the splinter in our neighbor's eye.)

Sometimes, it is hard not to judge another person...but, if fact, we don't actually know where they are on their *trip* with the Lord. I am trying to become less judgmental and more understanding with others, but sometimes that is difficult. Probably it's because I am a human being and subject to mistakes which, sometimes, I don't care to think about. If I ever had a prayer for anyone it would be that they receive the thirst for God's Word that I was fortunate to be granted me. I would also pray that they be tolerant of those who don't know as much as they themselves know, but are more than willing to learn.

I don't have enough room here to list the ways that I misjudge another through my pride and arrogance. One day, that will not be so...but right now I am still searching for that perfect knowledge. As I search, my love and caring for the other guy grows, and that is truly a gift from God.

Blessings to both of you, in Jesus' Name...

Rita

Rita,

I think this could be said for most, if not all of us. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gary,

You are absolutely right, there has to be an intellectual approach. With the intellect one is able to question whatever Spiritual experiences one may undergo, failing which we can find ourselves like the proverbial ship without a rudder. It should go without saying that the Intellect used in any Spiritual discussion, must preferably come from the Holy Spirit.

In regard to the doctrine of the Body, Soul and Spirit.  While it has nothing to do with Salvation, it is a point that is raised from time to time and one should get involved, in order to rectify the confusion it can cause amongst "Babes in Christ".  This does not mean that one has all the perfect answers, but may well learn something new during the conversational "Criss Cross"

In my experience at AAG, counting a possibility of 2 members, the rest have all displayed evidence in their writings, that they have experienced the New Birth.

AAG I guess is a form of "Brains Trust" that "Oldies" like myself used to listen to on "Steam Radio" before Television or Computers.  Answers to questions on the Christian life and walk are raised and answered by the group. There is no "Brains Trust Group" who will answer all the questions. Everyone should participate,  as the questions asked are posted to all on AAG.

This is extremely healthy as it encourages in depth Scriptural answers amongst the members, where logic prevails over the illogical and truth supersedes untruth.

Enjoy your stay with us my brother. I am certain that there is enough theology stored in you for many of us to benefit and grow.

Blessings.

Ron.
