I was thinking where would Jesus be within those 3 days before He was bodily resurrected?
Thanks in advance!

There are different views among our family as to what Jesus was doing or where He was at during His physical death.

Some are extremely offensive and wrong. Such as the belief that Jesus went to hell to be torture by demons and after He had paid for our sins and the Father had seen enough, He rescued Jesus from hell. That is not a biblical belief and we should not follow such error.

1 Peter 3:18–20 (NASB)
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water."

I personally do not think He went to preach the gospel, but to proclaim His victory among those who where in hell because of their disobedience as stated on verse 20.

The question that rises immediately is who was in prison. He went to proclaim to the Spirits in prison. It cannot be the dead in Christ. O.T. Saints were saved by faith from Abraham on and would go to Abraham's bosom.

Some believe that Jesus also went to Abraham's bosom (Luke 16: 19-31) to take the saints of the O.T. to heaven since they could not enter heaven before the atonement. Ephesians 4:8-10 is use to support that view.

Eph. 4:8-10

"When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men. 9 Now this expression, 'He ascended,' what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things...

Jesus stayed in the grave the 3 days/3nights just like jonah. Until his rose. He had completed the commandments of his father with his blood in atonement for our sins.he said"'it is finished"the bible. says abraham is. at peace with his fathers/asleep until jesus returns. He did preach to those who were . Once disobeyed while on earth both before &after he rose again. The key word in verse 20 is "who ONCE where disobedient" meaning they where no longer disobedient
.those who believed in who he was and the gospel he preached.
were freed. Freed from death & the grave because of his sacrifice and GODS grace. if we have faith

Like 16:19-31 is a parable/ story to get a point across to the people he too was speaking too something the 1st century jews understood on his story of abraham/lazarus/rich man.
We all sleep until jesus 2nd coming
Thats what the bible teaches

Hello Delores,

Are you suggesting that we are unconsious when our body dies. Whether Luke 16 is a parable or not can be debated endlessly.

Many verses in scripture let us know that to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. Our bodies await ressurectionN but the Spirit rejoices with the Lord.

David pc died. On phone web. Yes i think u r asleep in grave until jesus returns to earth
Even Jesus speaks of this (john 20:17).while the spirit does return to God (our spirit. Breath returns to him)but we area not aware of this.this is the breath of life that all living beings get from God to be alive
Gen 2:7 i believe u will find this. Gen 7:22- job33:4. Job34:14. Ps31:5 after being redeemed he ask God to take care of his spirit as did Jesus at his death. We will receive. Our spirits back at Jesus return. I don't think paul was speaking on upon death we r with God in heaven,he us speaking of our earthly bodies / spiritual heavenly bodies which we will not receive until 2nd combine
Paul is speaking of literal death and persecution in 2Cort
4.the earthly mortal body.not on heaven at death. John 14:3 stay when jesus returns, also phil 1:23.

Delores,

In the Old Testament, whenever someone died, they were said to sleep with their fathers. Luke 16, which I think is a true story, shows that Lazarus was at Abrahams's bosom but Jesus told that while we were still under the law.

Once Christ died and was resurrected, we enter the Age of Grace. If a person has accepted Christ as Savior, there is no resting with our fathers but we are present with the Lord at the death of our bodies.

55 But he, nfull of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw othe glory of God, and Jesus standing pat the right hand of God.

It is inferred that that Christ has been seated on the right hand of His Father20 that he worked in Christ wwhen he raised him from the dead and xseated him at his right hand yin the heavenly places, 2

...however, as Stephen prepares to enter heaven, Christ stands to welcome him home.

The Christian is *judged* at the time they are saved and there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Therefore, all who die in Christ are absent from the body, present with the Lord. They go straight to heaven.

The reference to being *asleep* is condition of our bodies. Our flesh. Our spirit and our soul are taken to heaven.

Blessings to you as you study God's Word....

Yes stephen saw. Jesus in heaven but it does not say he went to heaven, it says he fell asleep. Jesus is the only person on earth to be in heaven. Humans do not go to heaven even at his coming. We live on the new earth
With jesus/God here with us.........
Blessing to u

(Rev 6:9-11 NIV)  When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.  They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.

Delores,

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you hto myself, that iwhere I am you may be also.

I have read that to be absent from the body is to be present from the Lord.

Then also, there are 3 types of hell in scripture. I don't think demons or the devil will be punishing since they'll be experiencing punishment themselves. Has anyone found a verse that say the devil or demons will do punishing in the lake of fire, or the grave?

Vincent,

Quite the opposite.....
