8 The Lord called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 1 Samuel: 8-9

Samuel was a young follower of God. He had never heard the Lord before this time but he was a trusted friend and follower of Eli. He thought Eli was the one speaking to him. Eli knew better. So the next time you are struggling with doing "the right thing" or being forgiving and noble say "Speak Lord" and then listen carefully, Many times our Lord is reaching out to us through "circumstances".
