All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Praise God! It just hit me.

I was talking to some people [most if not all are former JWs] awhile back online. I remember we were talking about the Trinity. I didn't understand it. How is it possible that there's people who just don't understand. Well, I think I was told it has to come to them by the Holy Spirit. They just can't understand it on their own.

I understand that now. No human can just tell someone and they automatically understand.

I also know I haven't been trusting Him enough. I so need to trust Him more.

Now I get it! He will reveal the truth in His own time.

Hey, I just remember something my old pastor said [I say old pastor because I have no way to get to church anymore]. We can't convict anyone. That's the Holy Spirit's job.

I haven't been trusting the Holy Spirit to convict like I should have been. I've fell back into the trap of thinking all I need to do is talking to them/give them answers.

That's why prayer is so powerful! The Father draws them towards Jesus, the Holy Spirit convicts them and Jesus gives them eternal life.

The Father

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Jesus

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

http://bible.cc/john/6-37.htm

I'm not sure of a verse that says the Holy Spirit convicts, I just know it's got to be in there somewhere!

Wow, now that is beautiful! God, the Father,Son and Holy Spirit is involved in a person's salvation.

Woah...between praying and trusting in the scriptures. I wasn't sure exactly what to do. Now I surely do though!

Praise God! I have been under tremendous anxiety lately. But, now the anxiety feels like it's just falling off. :0)

Non-Trinitarian Heresies

Monarchism (Adoptionism)

  • Jesus became the Messiah when he was baptized.  He then became fully endowed with the Holy Spirit.
  • He was a man adopted by God at the time of his baptism or ascension as God's son.
  • His divinity was gifted to him later in life.
  • He is not co-eternal with the Father.

Modalism or Oneness (Sabellianism)

  • God reveals himself to us in three ways.
  • Father, Son and Holy Spirit are different modes or aspects of one God, and not three distinct persons within the Godhead.

Arianism

  • There is only one God.
  • Jesus Christ was not God.  He is inferior to God.  "The Father is greater than I."
  • He is the son of God, a being created by the Father that did not always exist.
  • The Father, working through the Son, created the Holy Spirit.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity isn't easy for anyone to understand or comprehend.  In fact, you might say it's mind boggling because it's virtually impossible for our meager and mortal minds to comprehend a God that is the creator of all things, all-knowing and all-powerful, without beginning or end.  Nowhere does the Bible use the term Trinity or Holy Trinity to describe God.  Yet, the triune nature of God is clearly communicated in the Holy Scriptures.   Numerous passages demonstrate that the one true and living God is a tri-unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Not three gods or one God that changes form appearing sometimes as Father, Son or Holy Spirit.  One in substance or nature, yet three eternally distinct, co-existent and co-equal persons, each working together in perfect unity and congruity of purpose.  Three-in-one: this is isn't an easy concept for us to grasp.  Which is why we say we can apprehend (acknowledge) but not comprehend (fully understand) the Trinity from the Scriptures.

Thank you both. Yes, it is truely exciting! He is in control.

It's like the rain has come down. I've been under tremendous anxiety lately. But, for some reason last night it just hit me. An overwelming peace has swept over me and the anxiety has evaporated.

Dear Toes where it blows,

Amen. You're coming along just fine. Just be cool....stay in the Word.....and pray, pray, pray.

And, if you study John, Chapter 16, Jesus explains the work of the Holy Spirit (also known as the Helper, the Advocate, Intercessor, or Greek - Parakletos, which literally means "to come along side").

Hang in there, girl. It's exciting.

Grace and Peace.

That is so true, and we need to be reminded that all of us are born spiritually blind and are corrupted by our fallen natures that predispose us to sin.  We are incapable of understanding or accepting the Gospel of Jesus Christ on our own.  It is, as the Paul the apostle said, 'foolishness' to the unbeliever.

We need to be aware of our own limitations, too, as believers.  We can't save others (or even ourselves) or bring them to Christ.  Only the Holy Spirit can remove spiritual blindness and infuse the unbeliever with faith and grace.  We may be -- and often are -- the instruments that God uses to help in this process.  But, make no mistake, salvation is entirely the work God through his Holy Spirit.

We can and must share the saving message of the Gospel with others, which is indeed the Great Commission to which Lord Jesus called us.  We can "walk the talk" by shining the light of Christ's illuminating love, charity, peace and mercy in a world overcome by darkness.  But as to the when, where, and how others come to faith in Jesus Christ -- that's up to God. Let's continue to pray, to witness, to trust in the Holy Scriptures, and to leave it in God's hands.
