The other day while driving to work I was having one of my infamous drive- time conversations with God. This particular morning I was focusing on how I try to control my life in a lot of ways instead of giving it up to God. I often forget that I can call on Him. I said a quick prayer for God to send me reminders he is always there for me and I’m not alone.
I looked over at a utility van beside me at the red light and saw a slogan on it that said “24/7 Emergency Assistance Available “. I considered that a smile from God as a way of saying I hear ya girl! I called Pastor Jeff to tell him of my glory bump moment of praying for God to help me remember he is always here for me.
It wasn’t until a couple days later that I turned this whole thing around. Instead of rejoicing that God was affirming he is there for us all the time what about looking inward…am I there 24/7 for God? Can He count on me to be one of His 24/7 Emergency Assistance servants? Do I really spend time ‘listening’ to God talk to me or is my prayer time all about me? I started to think of the countless times I focus inward on my needs, my wants, my pity parties with the man upstairs. Oh God, listen to me…it’s not fair…no one will help me…blah, blah, blah.
Well, I challenge myself and all of you reading this to answer these questions. Can God count on me to be of service to him? To be his hands, eyes, and ears here on Earth? To serve my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ? To be God’s 24/7 emergency assistance for others?
The answer is Yes, you can be. Just change your focus from ‘me’ to Thee.
God, please open my eyes and ears to the needs of others. Open my heart to find compassionate ways to help others by being a living breathing servant of your love.
