All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Listening & Faith on the Amazing Journey

Recently, I have been studying and writing about Jesus and the journey he leads us on. As I go, he is giving me object lessons in my own life.

It's amazing how you can forget the simple things, at times. I find myself in the middle of a project he has assigned to me - writing about how Jesus makes disciples.

I'm at a point where Jesus teaches his followers to Listen attentively to God; and I find myself struggling to be a good listener. So, I had been asking the Lord to show me what I need to change, to be a better listener. And what I needed to do to make progress and complete this project.

He gave me three instructions:

1. Be quiet.

2. Ask for guidance, then wait.

3. Obey what you are given.

Simple right? Well, I got my answers with some additional insight: He showed me that Nehemiah's work took time and diligence in times of adversity. Nehemiah had a lot of distractors and detractors.

One of the things Nehemiah had to do was determine to KEEP pressing forward and not listen to the voices of discouragement. Every day, every step. He had to make daily steps to what he already KNEW God had said, no matter what someone else said along the way.

Often times, life requires us to have the faith to obey a word we have already received; despite adversity and situations that hinder or discourage us. Many times, we want a new word. God says: "I have already spoken" and then he expects us to obey what he has already said.

Well, he patiently reminded me that he has already given me the word. I need to press on and not allow myself to be distracted. Thank God that he is so patient with us, right? Thank God that Jesus walks with us, even when we don't want to walk this journey.

Well, maybe you are needing encouragement to know that God has given you a word and he will give you the strength to complete what he has spoken to you. Keep listening, but keep pressing forward with what you have already heard. God will speak again, when you have done what he called you to do already.

Verse for the moment:

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." [Psalm 119:105]

Mahe, I'm glad that my comments encouraged you. I have walked through some deep and dark valleys, but have found that Jesus was there and that he led me out to find joy, and that he even carried me through the deepest parts when I didn't want to go on. Jesus cares about what you have been through and the Holy Spirit is able to strengthen you to overcome the worst trials.

Hi,

Thanks for posting such beautiful thoughts and experiences on getting to know God. I was very religious when I was younger, but somehow I 'd had neglected my faith. As I was reading your blogs ( journey) I realized a new and fresh way to get close to him again. Thanks. I enjoyed very much reading it. I also loved Bob's comments and the lyrics of the song above. God bless you and please keep writing so beautifully.

Hi, I am new here, I was reading about your spiritual Journey you have been on and wanted to share with you a scripture God gave me that revolutionized my life. Jeremiah 6:16 God said to His People, Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient path is, and where the best road is and walk in it and you will live in peace. Brian Doerksen has a song called dream again that expresses this scripture well.

Here we stand
At a crossroads again
Like you said
In time the seasons change

Looking back
We recall the blessing and the pain
But now we turn our hearts toward
What is still to come
We want to dream again

Lead us Lord
Into a life of fruitfulness
Prepare our hearts to risk again
As we trust
Taking simple steps of obedience we know
That you will lead us Lord
