Throughout most of his Old Testament book, Job’s stance was that he was “innocent” (Job 34:5). To be sure, Job wasn’t suffering because of personal sin as his three friends insisted (Job 32:1). He wasn’t a wicked man, but he also wasn’t perfect. The trouble is, he seemed to think he was good enough to be exempt from tragedy. He felt that God was the One to be blamed (Job 19:6-7; 27:2).

Job maintained his innocence, until God revealed Himself in a way that exposed his pride. In the end, he was humbled and began to see himself, his losses, and his God in a whole new light (Job 42:1-6).

Job went through a level of pain and loss that most people will never experience. His struggles, however, are a lesson to us all. When it comes to facing hardship in life, none of us gets a free pass. The question we need to ask is, “Why not me?”

Comment by Ruth McD on July 26, 2011 at 9:52am: At times it is hard to just stop and enjoy the moments in our lives, and the ones to come. We are in a hurry to get things done, and don't look at the big beautiful picture. God give me the serenity, and peacefulness.

I look at the days ahead and wonder what they hold.

We don't have to...
wait to overcome our weaknesses,
complete the ten point improvement plan,
figure everything out.
The strength we already have is all the strength we need.
Because we have a limitless God within us who loves us.
As is.
And He promises to stick by us.
All the way.

Comment by Ruth McD on July 16, 2011 at 7:58am: The apostle John wrote a letter that included instructions for how to pray—how to seek answers from God. He taught, “We are confident that [God] hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him” (1 John 5:14). Believers in Jesus (1 John 5:13) have free access to God and His wisdom. But notice that the focus of our prayers should be His honor and glory, acknowledging that He hears us and will give us “what we ask for” (1 John 5:15). I’ve experienced this reality both with my friends’ adopted daughter and with my friend whose cancer returned. How?

Jesus said, “You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father” (John 14:13). When we pray in Jesus’ name, we’re praying in Jesus—seeking His desires and His wisdom. We’re praying to the Father because of the access given to us by the Son. We’re praying that whatever the outcome, it will honor Jesus and “bring glory to the Father” (John 14:13).

There is “great power” in prayer (James 5:16). God hears us, and He will respond. When He does, however, we must be ready to accept answers that aren’t necessarily what we want, but that bring Him glory.
