All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Ok, what about this?

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

http://bible.cc/matthew/24-14.htm

Now that's one of the big issues with the JW's...they said "who else is preaching the gospel in all the world?"

Now how can it be proven that His death, burial and resurrection are the gospel? What gospel is spoken of in Matt. 24:14 though? It sounds like there's two gospels, but that can't be right. Can someone please help and explain this?

Feetbreeze,

Cults go to unusual lengths taking a single Bible verse or obscure and ambiguous passage and using it as the foundation for developing an elaborate and aberrant doctrine, which they regard as essential, setting them apart from churches embracing historic biblical Christianity.   They will then proceed to make the argument that they alone possess the fullness of truth while all other churches are false and corrupt.  In other words, they assert the truth of a false and perverse doctrine that they have created and proceed to put the Bible-believing Christian on the defensive.  If the Christian does not know the Bible well, they will be at a distinct disadvantage for the cultist already has the arguments and counter-arguments committed to memory and has rehearsed them.  Frankly, it should be the other way around with the cultist being put on the spot by a Christian that knows the Scripture.

*/ "Which gospel," you ask? /*

Good question!  How many gospels are there?

But first, we must ask: What is the gospel?  Painting with a broad brush, it is nothing less than the entire Bible.  It is the "good news" of God; the story of God and his relationship to us, revealing his plan of salvation.

There is one and ONLY ONE gospel presented in the Bible.  The gospel narrative, in a nutshell, is that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life.  It is the good news of our redemption by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, which we receive as a free gift of God by grace through faith.

When Matthew and Mark refer to the "gospel of the kingdom" (Matthew 4:23, 24:14 and Mark 13:10), it is the same gospel as that taught by Paul the apostle.  That is, the gospel of Christ-crucified, which Paul summarizes in First Corinthians 15.  LT has already shared these verses with us so I will not repeat them.  Paul, it should be noted, opens this presentation with these words:  "The gospel I preached to you. ... By this gospel you are saved."

Any other gospel is a false gospel; a gospel that does save us, according to Paul.  We should take heed of his warnings to the Galatian and Corinthian churches.  False and deceptive gospels are being preached and embraced today just as in Paul's day.

  • "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ" (Galatians 1:6-7).

  • "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:13).

Stay steady and strong in faith, hope and love in Jesus Christ,

Colby

Wait...that's very good. 1 Corinthians 15, the death burial and resurrection.

I hope it's ok to ask. Can you please explain something? Excuse me my head hurts a little, it's hot and it's hard to concentrate. Anyways, can you further explain how there verse is taken out of context? I know it is I just need explianed some more because it's hard to think right now. Forgive me if you went over any of this there's just time I need things repeated inorder to better understand it.

.How can it be shown they're not the only ones "spreading the gospel"? (which infact they're not even spreading the gospel) I remember the elder told me they were the only ones spreading the true gospel. "Who else is taking the gospel to all those in the world"? Or something like that he said. He said it when I was still "new" to the JW's.

This verse was used

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

I think that's when he asked that question.

.How can it be proven their gospel is false? There's so many false doctrines set around their false gospel. They believe they'll live forever on paradise eath. Well, prove a person has an eternal soul, than other questions arise.

Such as where do those who are not apart of the 144,000 go? For they're apart of the "new earth". It changes so much. The topic of being born-again would have to be looked at.

Than the topic of Hell arises for where do "non-JW's' end up? They have to end up somewhere if they have an eternal soul. So, much is tied in with their false gospel of pardise earth.

.How can the true gospel be shown when their own Bible is altered to prove a false resurrection? Not only that but they believe Jesus only died for the sins inherited from Adam.

In Christ,

Feetbreeze,

To adequately respond to your questions, a lot of ground needs to be covered.  Therefore, let me respond to the initial questions you raise and not attempt to answer everything at once.  Otherwise, we may lose focus and clarity.

*/ Now how can it be proven that His death, burial and resurrection are the gospel? /*

Never take my word for anything. Go to the Scripture, the written word of God, and read it carefully and in context. The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John will be particularly insightful.  They cover the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  You may want to begin with the summary provided by the Apostle Paul in First Corinthians 15. Here are the opening verses.

"2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. ..."

*/ Wait...that's very good. 1 Corinthians 15, the death burial and resurrection. /*

Paul’s explanation of the gospel here is clear and straightforward.  It is this gospel by which we are saved, he says.  Any other gospel is a false gospel that does not save.

*/ What gospel is spoken of in Matt. 24:14 though? It sounds like there's two gospels, but that can't be right. Can someone please help and explain this? /*

Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

The Bible, which is the written word of God, in its entirety is essentially a presentation of the gospel, culminating in the New Testament accounts of the life, death and resurrection as well as the promised second coming of Jesus Christ. Gospel means "good news." It also refers to the four accounts of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus provided by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

When you say, "it sounds like there are two gospels," help me to understand what you mean here. I can't find any contradiction or presentation of more than one gospel in Scripture. Not expressly, not from the context, not inferentially.

What, specifically, leads you to believe that these are, or could be, two different gospels? Do you see some special significance in the reference to "gospel of the kingdom" versus the "gospel?"

Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, in truth and in love,

Colby

All so before Jesus died they were talking about what would happen in the future like He spoke of in John about rising His temple? I also remember how He said He'd be betrayed(forget which scripture).

And when they say "Gospel of the Kingdom", is it straight out saying "The good news that gets you into God's Kingdom?"

:smacks forhead: I at first didn't understand because I didn't understand how they could preach about His death, burial, and resurrection beforehand. The Lord has let me understand better now. They were saying what would happen in the future...explaining the prophecies. That's one reason Jesus probably used OT prophecies.

I thought it sounded different because it said "Gospel of the Kingdom". Forgive me. You see the JW came around 2 years before Jesus saved me. And, for so long I've heard that "The Gospel of the Kingdom" and I think of men in suits talking about a paradise earth. I've never really got to hear it the other way before. About the gospel being preached, death, burial and resurrection, before it actually happened.

I'm used to 1 Corinthians 15. It's just the verses about "Gospel of the Kingdom" that's been put on here...I've mainly only heard those verses being used to help support their paradise earth thing. That's why I've been confused.

I've got great news! My VOM devotional and my "Kingdom of the Cults" book arived in the mail today! Pray He gives me wisdom and strength.

Ok, I need help with something else. The gospel was predicted in the OT. right? Well, is there any instinces where Abraham or Job or whoever mentioned about it? I need a scripture reference where someone from the OT knew about the gospel. Not like prophecizing like in Isiah. Just someone like Abraham who was eager to know about the gospel,God's plan of salvation that would be fulfilled someday in the future.
