All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Let's encourage one another:

What have you read lately in God's Word that just touched you in a special way and, if willing to share, why did that portion of the Word touch you in a special way?

1 Peter 1:

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

8and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls. (NASB)

I was reading this today. The hard times come but they are meant to build faith. So I was encouraged by these words. We go through times of distress and adversity but they will result in praise and glory and honor and Jesus will help us see these good things again and the trials will be for a little while...not forever.

Amen!!!

The entire Bible is my favorite of all books I have read and there have been a few of them. I relish anything that God or Christ has spoken. Any thing written in red, I pay close attention to because it is spoken to me by Christ. I wish there were a version of the Bible that wrote God's words in Red.

All of Christ's promises to me hold special meaning to me. If I ever wonder if I can accomplish something, I go to my Bible and see if Christ addressed it there. If He has, I know it will work for me the way I need it to. Everything I read in the Bible, is my favorite Word from God. The entire Book is awesome!

Blessings...

Rita

Hahaha, Rita ... you got me.

I meant "What have you read lately in the Word of God ..." :-)

I was reading in 2 Kings 6:8-23  . As you know this was the  story of when the Syrians had surrounded Elisha in Dothan.         When Elisha's servant went out and saw the Syrian army was all around them he paniced and asked the man of God what they were going to do.

16)       E lisha answered and said " Do not fear , for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."

Then in verse 17  " And Elisha prayed , and said, ' Lord , I pray , open his eyes that he may see '.  Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw.   And behold , the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. "

This was such a reminder to me that when we see the enemy in all our circumstances we sometimes forget to see ' those

who are with us ' and we need God to ' open our eyes ' to see all of the prtection and provision that God has in place for  us.  The enemy would love to see us panic ( as we , unfortunately , sometimes do ) and turn in fear from what we are to do and God needs to help us see past the enemies deceptions and see Him.

To me it is a tremendous encouragement to know that when we are walking  with the Lord He is more than able to overcome any and every obstacle because He is , indeed, greater than he that is in the world.

God bless.

Charles,

Isn't is awesome to know that there is so much more going on behind the curtain than meets the eye and that God has it all under control!!!

2 Timothy 1:12:
For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. (NASB)

I just hijacked this from Amanda's blog and decided to post it. If there is a more important result of studying the Bible, learning what God has for us, I don't know what it is. It expresses, perfectly, my thoughts. I believe this should be our goal in learning about God. We all need to make this verse a living reality.

Blessings.....

Rita

Rita, I am happy that you hijacked from my post :)

As I commented there:

I suppose another good question is: Is it either that we know God because we believe in God or do we believe in God because we know God.

For me, I didn't just decide one day to believe in God and get saved. God revealed Himself to me and made Himself known to me through His Word and through His Spirit and through hearing His Word and through coming to know Jesus as my Savior...and then I was able to believe.

Many people believe in something simply because a preacher or a leader in the church told them that it was true. They never question what they believe or seek to find out why they believe what they believe. They never know why they believe the beliefs they hold...they believe...just because they were told that this is the way to believe.

That is dangerous. IMO

We are able to walk by faith only after we come to know Jesus and belief in Him follows that knowledge. We know whom we have believed and are persuaded...

There are teachings out there that are counterfeit and therefore do not bring knowledge of the truth and are falsely called knowledge but are not knowledge at all IMO. Just lies.

I will hijack something that Carla said about "knowing":

We can pray as Jesus did... Father in Heaven.. I thank you for hearing me, I know that You always hear me... and then rest because we truly know that HE has heard. http://www.allaboutgod.net/forum/topics/what-advice-would-you-give-...

Her whole comment was very good regarding doubt and faith and the journey to gain knowledge. She has also said many times that we can know that we know that we know...

Be still and know that I am.

I have read this a thousand times. Why? Because that is exactly what I do. I don't care what is happening around or to me. If I stop and focus on God all is well. Even as I type this, I am focused on the fact that God is all around me and in fact resides in me.  Every morning I sit in my living room reading Gods word. I then place my Bible in my lap, fold my hands and thank God for the very breath I am taking. I reflect on His sacrifice for me and ask His blessing on all people. I love sitting quietly and talking to God, being still and KNOWING He is.

I know this is going to sound totally un-manly, but that passage reminds me of when one of my own children would be hurt or afraid. I would wrap my arms around them and try to comfort them saying,"shhh Daddy has you. It will be OK". I think that's what it means to me, God is saying,"shhh your Father has you and I love you". I can't picture a more comforting thought.

God loves us, that is sooo coool

Gary

Sounds very manly to me. I remind myself regularly, especially in storms, that "God has this."
