What does Roman 12:2 mean to you?
When I became a born again Christian, the Holy Spirit renewed my spirit. However, I need to change the way I think. God didn’t automatically give me love for everyone. I didn’t receive automatically the ability to stay at peace and not get angry. I didn’t automatically quit smoking. I didn’t automatically stop lusting for material things. I had to work on my own mind to receive these things. Therefore, it is my opinion that we all need to examine ourselves for what is in our minds that shouldn’t be there and change the way we think.
The Holy Spirit did, however, change my spirit. I am perfect and righteous in the sight of God. Yet I still have a ways to go. I need to work on the sins I still commit. I need to turn my mind from anything that does not please God.
I am interesting in hearing how others handle this verse and what it means to you.

Roman 12:2 means to not be like the world. You are suppose to be separate and different from the world. If you are one of God's children you would hate all sin. Once you get rid of all your sin, confess and repent(turn away from all sin), and pray to God to destroy all your evil desires of sinning. After that is done, God will reveal to you what you need to do.

Romans 12:2 means this to me:
The NASB says this:
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Do not be conformed to this world
In other words, Don't do the things the world says are right. Don't fall into false contentment or try to be satisfied with worldly things, looking a certain way (as in appearance for attention), financial success.. Todays 'world' says that only the strong will survive--be strong.. The world elevates the 'beautiful and successful people', and attempts to lure us (all people) into falling into that trap. The world says: Be rich. Have a big home--take out a second mortgage on your home. Spend lots of money. You deserve to spoil yourself. Buy whatever you want. Use your credit card..you can extend your credit limit....The world is narcissistic. It's all about me me me...Stay busy busy busy ...etc (surely the list goes on)... Then you will be happy. (???) <Do not be conformed to this.
But be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
God is renewing us daily. Submit to Him. Allow Him to work. Be obedient. God is the One doing the change in us...it's up to us to respond. The words 'but be transformed' is the part we play. 'By the renewing of your mind' is the part God plays.
So that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Live in such a way that your contentment and satisfaction in Christ is contagious (so that you may prove). Give God the Glory! Stand up for Justice, Love Mercy, and Walk humbly with God (what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect)
