All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hello everyone!
I am trying to understand, something.

I have many family members that are believers and they know the bible through and through. I believe they are saved.
But they still drink alot, and smoke, cus, ect.
I am a little bit confused on how they can continue to do these things and continue to be forgiven. I am having a hard time explaining myself here, so I hope it makes sense.
I understand we all are sinners, Jesus died for us. They all know this as well.
So what happens now that they know this and continue to sin.
Its addictions and they are hard to break.
Any insight for me?
Thank you

Hi Vik,
I wonder how long it's been since they accepted Christ as their Saviour? It sounds as though they may have fallen away.
Sometimes people are confronted by the gospel and respond. Sadly, They only 'taste" instead of having a full "Drink" of the good news of the gospel and because of a poor foundation they fall away. Some have taken in enough Biblical head knowledge to fool themselves and have learnt to talk the talk but unfortunately as they say: "can't walk the walk."
Jesus says: " By their fruits you will get to know them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?" Mat 7:16
In other words nothing good can come from their present activities. They are not gathering in anything of use and looking in the wrong places. One thing certain their behaviour will never encourage others to become a Christian.
Sadly one day should they not repent and stop, the words they will hear from Christ is: "Depart from me, for I never knew you." That is, "I never approved of your conduct; never loved you; never regarded you as my friends."
Whatever might have been their pretended joys, their hopes, their self-confidence, their visions, their zeal, they had never been regarded by the Saviour as his true friends.

To write this hurts me and others reading this, as much as I am sure it hurts you. But where there is even a tiny flame amongst them namely YOU, there is still hope. Don't start criticising them, don't push their habits down their throats.
A good start is to invite Christians who know what's happening, into your home. Again NOT to preach but simply to fill the home with Christians and Christian attitudes. Let them see you all enjoying each others company. Let them hear the testimonies of your friends, how they came to Christ and what the Lord is doing for them now. It won't hurt for the group to sing a chorus or two. This will bring back memories to your family members, perhaps find themselves wanting to give testimony themselves. Don't push it, just let the Lord take control and you will find their consciences being pricked. Their memories being brought to the front, when they first started on the road to faith in Christ. And I am sure that one by one they will be won over to Christ.

I would say to check out Romans 6. Sin is a cruel master and we are not under obligation to serve the flesh. When we are saved all of our sins are obliterated, gone, out of here... Here! I remembered this link.

Let me know if this was any help. In short, when we got saved we are free to live as carnal as we want to but who wants to live like that? It may be lawful but is not a healthy choice. We are free from the mire but who wants to jump back in with the hogs? Any "Christian" who does and is comfortable that way may not really be born again. They may be Christianized but not saved.
I know that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins through His works, giving His self as sacrifice, which is how He became our savior, but I thought the following bible passage fit this topic well.

Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

Jam 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit?

Jam 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jam 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Jam 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Jam 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Jam 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Jam 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Jam 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Jam 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Jam 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent [them] out another way?

Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Hosea 4
2 There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery;they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.(of the word of God)"Because you have rejected knowledge,I also reject you as my priests because you have ignored the law of your God,I also will ignore your children.
10 "They will eat but not have enough;they will engage in prostitution but not increase, because they have deserted the LORD to give themselves
11 to prostitution,to old wine and new, which take away the understanding
12 of my people. They consult a wooden idol and are answered by a stick of wood.A spirit of prostitution leads them astray;they are unfaithful to their God.

These are just many of the vs in the bible that your family or friends are not reading or understanding, If you read thought hosea you will have all the answers to same of the questions you have to your friends and family that are sinner, We are not all perfect but we have the choice to be Good or Bad. Our God has always had us you and me as his master piece on this earth, We should be shining our light and Shine Gods glory everywhere we go. The Devils master piece is Sin,flesh.God is Spirit and Glory They need to find a good basic church a church that will change the ways thur the word. be filled with the holy spirit and ask forgiveness and then they need to become whole inside need to be healed inside out. Its never too late to step in the Kingdom of God.
Be blessed
Just as you, when you first came to Christ, the Holy Spirit convicts you of your sin and you yourself feel the sin and make the necessary changes. We are all sinners and when we come to Christ he refines us. A person will only change as they grow in the Love of Christ. You cannot force the change, they need to want it themselves. As the bible says, many are called; few are chosen. No Christian has it all; Jesus will determine what we are lacking on that last day, otherwise we would be sinless and that doesn't exist.
Remember Peter thought he had it all, until he denied Jesus three times.
The biggest mistake any Christian can make is thinking that you have it all.
