All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I'd like to get y'alls views on this...because for me it was truly disgusting.  And that would be a light description.

Okay, here is the description.  This morning while listening to K-love, they were plugging the movie "Super Man."  They even went as far as to say it represented Jesus, i.e. fighting evil, etc.  Said that the story was much the same...a man gave up his son to come into this world, be adopted, and spend his life fighting evil.

I'm amazed at how many "Christians" buy into this lie and go to see this movie with their little children.  She said that "Superman" gave his life.....sorry, but he was not crucified on a cross for our sins.

This is about as ridiculous as teaching your children about "Santa Claus."   Really...what has happened to true Christianity in this time?  Does noone get into the Word anymore, doesn't anyone recognize how far we've digressed...I'm with Jesus on this one, "Will I find faith on the earth when I return?"

All this tells me is that Jesus will be coming back very very soon.  So many trying to take away His Glory.  The world has truly waxed evil, calling good evil and evil good.  Take care and please examine your heart and faith.  Please take the time.  I love you all.

Grace,

To be blunt, how can you know you've been where I have, when you don't actually know anything about me? I think you need to find out more before making such an assertion.

Quoting scripture is one thing, whether its in love is quite another. After all, even the devil knows the scriptures.

I stand by everything I've said. Superhero is not a perfect analogy, it has its limits and flaws; but I can see how it helps some people get to grips with a little bit about what God is like. I can certainly see how it helps children. I can also see how it doesn't help, but its about the relationship between God and the person. If you find the superhero analogy doesn't work for your relationship, don't use it. If it works for someone, I'm fine with that, I'm not going to destroy something that means so much to that person. I can point out where it falls down but I'll build on where they are.

I'm going to end with Paul and then go. I'll settle my disputes with people via PM.

Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written:

“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
    every tongue will acknowledge God.’”

So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

Grazer,

You underestimate the ability of an 8 year old to understand the simple gospel. He does not need to see a ridiculous and stupid cartoon video that some guy creates that puts our Lord and Savior in Superman suit. Have you ever worked with children and presented the simple gospel message? I have of many years and can assure you that most understand it. I understood it at age 5.

Grazer,

Why do you see it as being unloving and uncaring to simply hear Scripture quoted? If the Scriptures are of no more importance to you than the works of Shakespeare or Homer or any other masterpieces of world literature, then why does it hurt you so much that you will accuse other people who are your brothers and sisters in Christ that the devil makes them quote Scriptures. Is it not possible, then, and likely probable to say the devil makes people quote from the Illiad or the Aeneid and is leading people to quote from the comic books about fictional characters like Superman, Batman, and Spiderman, to say they are like Jesus, etc ... ?

As for being a weak Christian, I could use that same argument against you and say the devil is making you use this superhero analogy and you are unloving for doing so because I am a weak Christian and it hurts me to hear someone talking about my Lord and Savior in that way, as if He is like an idol of this world, and Superman is an idol to many people and many of them are children. Then I could quote that same Scripture to you that you have quoted to us. But is this topic a matter of Christian liberty? Are we actually at liberty to say Jesus is a superhero or is even like a superhero? That is the true question.

In a survey, the question was asked, Who were your childhood idols? Many answered Superman. If only one did, that would make the fictional character an idol of this world. That is simple human reasoning. To many people Superman is their idol and many of those people are children. The definition of idol is "An image or representation of a god used as an object of worship. A person or thing that is greatly admired, loved, or revered:  "movie idol Robert Redford." (Dictionary.com)

As for where I asked if you are going to walk in the light, I will clarify that statement. I'm not questioning your salvation. God is continually shining more and more light on the Christian's pathway for them to walk in it. It's called being discipled and the mind being renewed and the Scriptures are a light on our path. "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path" (Psalm 119:105, NIV).

I was asking you if you are going to walk in the light as it is revealed in Acts 17 instead of keep saying Jesus is a superhero or is like one. Superheroes are worldly idols.

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

The following excerpt from a trusted site describes walking in the light better than I can. Repentance isn't just a one time thing. Repentance is saying I'm not going to think that way anymore, I'm not going to say that anymore, I'm not going to be that way anymore -- every time and anytime we learn a new truth.

Our Christian duty is to live in the light God gives: “Now you are light in the Lord. Walk as  children of light” (Ephesians  5:8). When we walk in the light, we cannot walk in darkness. Sin is left in  the shadows as we let our light “shine before men” (Matthew  5:16). It is God’s plan for us to become more like Christ (1 Thessalonians  4:3).
“Walking in the light” means we consider Jesus as “the light”  in this world, and we “walk” in that light by following His precepts, living in  His power, and growing in His grace.

There are 2 separate issues here; the marketing strategy by the distributor and churches using this movie to talk about the gospel.

What's funny is that by condemning the movie and showing where it is wrong, you are using it to show the gospel. I absolutely agree with ""If you give me another opportunity to talk to someone about Jesus Christ, and I can do that because of your movie, that's a win for me, because it is about spreading the Gospel." This movie may (and indeed has) got people talking about Christ and what he did. How is this bad? God can use anything!

I've got "Jesus is my superhero" stuck in my head now lol

Thank you Grace to you.... :)

Janie,

The video is a good word and fits well with this discussion. What a good find!

Grace to you,

Thank you for helping Janie in posting it.

Hi Grace to you,

Thanks again for your post. as I write this, 713 viewers have visited here. that's great.

Thought I'd add another dimension in this matter that Satan is trying to accomplish.

When the media plugs this garbage, and church officials receive bribes to introduce it into their churches, it's like taking the world and integrating it with the congregations. And unfortunately, so many members in the pews are not familiar enough with God's Word, and take "superhero" as gospel.

GOD DOESN'T LIKE MIXING THE WORLD INTO HIS CHURCH.

James 4:4," You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (5) Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: He jealously desires the Spirit which  He has made to dwell in us." (N.A.S.B.).

Satan is probably laughing with glee about all this.

And Tammy: They'll have to pry my classic model I-Pod (that contains over 300 Gaither, and other old hymns) out of my cold, stiff, dead hand before I'll give them up.............

Grace and Peace to all you Brothers and Sisters.
