All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Do you pray about every situation & circumstance in your life? Do we need to pray about everything or does God give His people common sense to perform certain actions on their own? When we're told to pray without ceasing, what exactly does that mean to you?

No I do not, but I do get conviction from the Spirit (not condemnation, but conviction) for not praying for things, situations and people I know I should pray for.

I don't think God minds us praying about everything. God does give us wisdom to know how to act and react, but seeking His face or asking him the obvious is not a bad thing, unless the process is keeping us from acting upon something that needs immediate attention.

When I abide in Christ (I know I am in Christ permanently, but I mean abiding in His word) I find myself talking to Him about everything, everywhere. There are Christians who make fun of other Christians who ask the Lord about things that to them are inconsequential, things like, what store they should go shopping at etc... But I see nothing wrong in that, especially when the motives are right. I have not done it in a while to my shame, but I used to ask God to prepare a heart for me to speak to in the day, as I did my morning bible study (God would always answer that prayer), then throughout the day as I go about the daily chores of our lives, I would ask Him stuff like: do I go to Wal-Mart or Target, where is that person you prepared for me to talk to at? His Spirit would then impress in me where to go. I know there are family members in the body who may think that is crazy and silly, but those times in my life, when I have such a relationship with my Lord, a relationship where I talk to him about everything, as my Lord, Father and Friend that He is, I am the most joyous and peaceful. Praying without ceasing to me is simply talking to God about everything throughout our lives.

David,

Crazy? I think it's pretty awesome. I get groceries & ask Him to allow me to buy or find things on sale especially if I have a budget that day. There are 2 different highways that you can take to go to the Mall & I often ask him which road I should take. I don't do it always but there are many times I feel a strong pull to take one highway instead of another. I see it as maybe there was danger waiting on me if I took the highway He told me not to take. So, David, we can be lame together.

Yup Amen Brother! I am relating to this Dude!

Thanks :-)

Right now I tend to talk to God in my thoughts throughout the day.

In 1 Samuel 23, David was seeking God's guidance before he would take action. He was using something called the Urim and Thummin. I am curious about that. David listened for God's directions after inquiring. I think we do not listen enough today. We do a lot of talking. Discerning God's will can take time but people tend to get impatient and become hasty. I have anyway.

Oh girl. Have we met before? lolol. I def do much much talking & need to listen much more. Reckon if that's why we have 2 ears & 1 mouth?

Lol. I do much thinking and need to listen more.

God is my friend as well as my God. I talk to Him lots during the day, about different things. Not just my problems, but various other things too. Sooo....if praying without ceasing means to talk with God throughout the day, I pretty much do that. I always include Him in my major decisions in my life and sometimes the minor things as well. When I feel harshly about other people, I talk to Him about that. When I have issues about my kids, I talk to Him about that. But, I also ask His advice on how to quilt! Or ask when I laid my car keys.

I understand that verse to mean to have God active in every facet of your life. I always look to Him to give me insight into what I post here. He also leads me about which posts to respond to.

We aren't meant to act on our own...necessarily. God did give us sense to act on our own, but...two heads are better than one...especially if one of the heads belong to God.

Blessings...

Rita

Oh My Word. The Lord is tired of telling me where I've lost things. I know He thinks "My Word child. Put your keys in the same place every time you walk in the door". I can see Him now throwing His head down & putting His hands thru His hair & groaning "Tammy, for my Son's sake, please put your glasses on top of your head & stop laying them everywhere." This last loss has really been hard on me which is my diamond & wedding band. He's yet to tell me where it is. It's a little looser on my hand sometimes so I don't wear it all the time because I didn't want it to slip off somewhere. So, not sure if that's what has happened or if I put it somewhere in the house that I normally don't put it.

I, too, talk to Him thru the day. It will be just idle chatter sometimes but He understands that I talk to an 11 year old & 10 year old twins - all boys -  all day & need to talk  to someone grown from time 2 time.

I use to be so much better about praying before I replied on discussions but have went on intuition lately. Thanks for the reminder.

Do you pray about every situation & circumstance in your life?

It depends on what we mean by situation & circumstances.

Do we need to pray about everything or does God give His people common sense to perform certain actions on their own?

I do not pray about whether I should or will have a cup of coffee in the morning or what color shirt I will wear today. I do pray about what message I will preach on any given Sunday. I did not pray about joining AAG, but I did pray about joining the leadership team and prayed when eventually asked to be TheNET Coordinator before accepting.

When we're told to pray without ceasing, what exactly does that mean to you?

Prayer, to me, in its simplest sense is communication/connection. Praying without ceasing is to acknowledge and be aware of His presence 24/7. This does not mean that we will be talking 24/7. A poor example, but the best I have at the moment is when my wife and I take a trip in the car we are together, seeing the same things, experiencing basically the same thing and we will talk at times and at other times we will be silent. We are aware of the other's presence. We are connected and comforted by being in the presence of the one we love even if we do not speak for miles ... we are together and know it. I believe this is a lot like our walk with the Lord, but at a much deeper level since He lives in us.

I do not pray about whether I should or will have a cup of coffee in the morning or what color shirt I will wear today.  - I talked with someone yesterday who told me that you might need to pray about your shirt color & get a new coordinator for your Clothes.

:-)

When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy. --Corrie Ten Boom
