All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I'm thinking this church won't last very long.  In my opinion, they seem to be focused more on self than the Spirit.  What do you think?

Mayor Chris Wilkinson of Hamlin, WV, has also been the pastor of Morningstar Community Church for the last 10 years. Last night, members of his congregation asked him to resign. It stems from last Thursday, when the Mayor agreed to let Lincoln County deputies use their church bus to make a meth bust in Harts. Wilkinson says letting the officers use the bus was a way to ensure their safety, and a way for them to go unnoticed, as opposed to having nine cruisers show up at once. The bust netted three arrests. The mayor said the bus was paid for by bake sales and gospel sings. Today, the mayor did resign as pastor.

Do you think the Mayor did the right thing? Should he resign? Comment below with your thoughts and *SHARE* this story with your friends to get their opinion.

Seek,  I understand his reasoning of why he let them use the bus but if I was at that church and my family with me and knowing that church bus was involved with a big drug bust I would be taking me and my family out of the church and into another. Not because of condoning or not condoning the mayor/pastors choice but because of wanting to protect me and my family. To many people get murdered because of the drug scene.

But would that be our flesh worrying over our family in that manner or the Spirit leading us?

I don't know Seek.... on my part it would have to be my flesh. But without going in to detail I absolutely will not on purpose put me and my children in that kind of danger... ever.

Char, you come out with the most unusual  posts.........keep 'em coming.

Let's imagine that Jesus and the twelve had a bus to ride around in during His ministry in Palestine.

Okay, they roll into Jerusalem for a one week revival. The high priest pays Jesus a visit.....and asks a favor.

It seems the temple police want to raid a house of prostitution in the city......and they need some kind of cover to surprise the employees and patrons at this house by arriving undetected to the door.

The high priest asked Jesus if they can use His bus for this purpose.

Is there anyone reading this who would say that Jesus should let the temple police use His bus for this purpose?

Interesting post.  I'm seriously torn.

From what I see here in this story is that the Pastor stood to seek Justice.

My suggestion for how he could have done it differently is to simply cover up the name of the church so it couldn't be seen.

Should he have to resign?  N0, I don't believe he should.

Psalm 91 keeps coming to mind.

Blessings, Carla

I would have cranked up the A Team music, raided a local allotment she'd of it's corregated iron and made some armor :)

Rememeber the eye thing?

I listened to the article and read it. The church hasn't came forward with their side yet. Maybe there is more to this than just the bus.

Could be, but we're to obey the leaders of our church.  When churches begin asking pastors to resign, they better be having a majority vote on that or they won't withstand because they're not in unity.  And yes, I got lots I gotta work on with God and me, and not judging what they did except as the Word teaches.  I can't judge one who is sinning either (the person...their heart), but I can see what the Word says about what they're doing and how they're living as to whether it lines up or not.  That is part of the discernment where we reach a point of knowing is one is truly saved or blowing smoke and we may not allow them into our inner circle of friends if we feel they're truly unrepentant.

I have never heard that the church members were to obey the pastor. I think I knew they are to follow his teachings and of course respect him.  Who told the news media about this church incident, do you know? If it were the pastor who did.... shouldn't he have kept this in private? If he was wanting to speak his mind should he have not resigned right away? I wonder why he left so easily. This is sad to me..... but maybe this is Gods plan for this church to go through this... maybe for learning?

The article had said the church had agreed to it before so this time he let them use it without asking the congregation figuring since they'd already approved it prior....Maybe that's what upset them, I dunno.

The bible says in Hebrews 13:17:  Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 also says:  We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

There are also many verses that speak of obeying those in authority.

I will have to reread it again. I just thought that he had done it beforr and when he did they did not ask him to resign then. I didn't realize he got their ok before he did it the first time. Hpefully they will work things out....

Thank you for sharing those verses...  Maybe I will call LT boss for now on. :D.... To me he is pastor of this site.

Could the problem exist now because the lines between the job as mayor and the calling as pastor were blurred by the choice to use the bus -- separation of church and state is a legality and we want that separation as Christians, don't we?
